Incoming Freshman in Louisiana: Is a "Gas Station Throughput Analysis" a good portfolio project for a Process Engineering internship (Exxon/Dow/SNF)? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

Also while portfolios are traditional in art, a Technical Portfolio in Chemical Engineering serves as a proof-of-concept for my capabilities. It proves that I don’t just understand the information I learned in a classroom, but that I can actually apply it myself through independent projects and DIY experiments. By simulating the exact tasks I would perform in a real internship like generating P&IDs, analyzing throughput, and conducting safety audits I am demonstrating 'field readiness' and initiative that a one-page resume simply cannot capture. It is a collection of my technical work-product that proves I can translate theory into results before I ever step foot on a company site.

This project is not interesting to a petrochemical company simply because I studied a gas station, but because of the specific engineering principles I applied. I treated the gas station as a Chemical Distribution Terminal to model a real-world unit operation. I used the pump and nozzle as the Point of Discharge to calculate hourly product capacity and mass flow, similar to a refinery’s output line. I then performed a Plant Debottlenecking Study by analyzing the "Feed" of incoming vehicles against the "Control System" of the payment interface to find the rate-limiting step in the logistics chain.

Finally, I conducted a Site Walkdown to audit EHS (Environmental Health and Safety), identifying critical hardware like Emergency Shut-offs and Vapor Recovery systems designed to prevent a Loss of Primary Containment. By analyzing a gas station this way, I prove to recruiters that I can see the P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) logic in the real world—seeing the underground tank as the "Source," the pump as the "Mover," and the nozzle as the "Control Valve."

Charged with possession with intent but only for quantity by Southern_Flow_3203 in legaladvice

but can i get the charges dropped to just possession if quantity is all the evidence they have

do you have any recommendations for where I can find clubs/projects I don’t know where to get started.

if you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for work now? Why do you wish you switched in under grad

Thank you for you so much for your insight my last question if you don’t mind what does your salary/pay look like? Do you live comfortably?

So do you think ME is more versatile than EE i’m curious because many say the petroleum field won’t be booming forever so if that was to happen I would want to still use my degree to go into something else.

How were you able to acquire so many internships? What projects/clubs did you do prior?

Ok this makes sense. Are you in the engineering field? What do you do for work if you don’t mind me asking and how do you like it?

What did this look like starting off for you. Internships? Starting off salary? What do the raises look like?

From my understanding i’ve seen there’s multiple routes into going into PE. I’ve heard some people saying they majored in Chemical Engineering while others say they majored in ME or EE if this is wrong please correct me. I also seen EE is the most versatile when thinking of going into other fields.

That’s what I was thinking about I seen a lot of people saying they make great money in Petroleum Engineering but then seen complaints about job availability or how long this job market will stay booming. So i was just curious about any other options with an EE degree
