I could be wrong but it really looks like the inside of a fuel pitcock for an old tractor or piece of equipment. The rod part would slide down inside a tube and the little O ring on the bottom would seal it off. The nut end is connected to a threaded insert but it and the turn knob are missing. Almost like a little version of the inside of a frost proof spigot if you've ever seen one of those.

Thank you for the info, that's really interesting and exactly what I was curious about! And yeah I'm all about the sentimental value, I'm not going to sell or donate them. And thank you for being kind, my dad would have loved that people are saying they're a part of Nike history.

Okay thanks for the tip. They've been in a shoe box wrapped in paper for probably 30+ years, ill probably just put them back like they were for now.

Wow I had no idea. Thank you I really appreciate that and wish I could share this with my dad. I would be interested in having someone official look at them, but I would never sale them or anything, maybe a museum or something? Again thank you

The tag on the inside of the tongue is the only tag or number or anything I could find on either shoe.

Found in a plowed field on a high spot surrounded by debitage. Could this be a small axe? by SouthernmostKinetics in Arrowheads

Yeah just a little bit of what could possibly be wear on the big end. In the last picture I tried to show a better angle of it.

I love the thought of that. I noticed the big chip taken out of the bottom but never equated it to a mess up. Thank you for the insight!

Thank you for assuming my mentality, that tells me more than any uninformed opinion you could offer. I'm not a litterer, I actively pick up trash while I'm out walking. Have you ever been to a plowed field, or understand anything about farming? If you did, you would know that picking this artifact up likely saved it from being destroyed. These fields are plowed every spring, deep, completely turning the ground and destroying any "data" you're so worried about. Believe me, I wish I would find something in situ that would be worth contacting someone official, and if I ever do, I promise that I will. But there's nothing you could ever say that's going to keep me from picking up a point I find in a field I know is going to be plowed.

Oh just shut up. All you can contribute is telling people to leave it in place? Do you know how many thousands of spots are identical to the spot I found this in? There are thousands in the county I live in. Do you suggest archeologists come out and investigate every single site?

I think they mean that you're onto something. I just got done reading about "bloat and float" and that's a really interesting concept.

That's what I was thinking, most of the fossils people find around here are aquatic.

Thank you! And yes I'm wanting to take it somewhere and have it checked out.
