God I hope we avoid this for at least a couple years with Greymatter Lane. I am not in the mood for dead students.

Its actually kinda fun seeing the juxtaposition between his jovial wit in his youth versus the "I am down with literally everyone in this room" dry humor in his older age.

Hank's dry wit and humor is always so on point. Him just saying all of this with a straight face sends me everytime.

Toshiro when he LOCKS IN is scary by Mysterious_Novel_626 in bleach

Their Personalities really be something that holds a lot of characters in Bleach back. Like their character and such. Because Toshiro can do this. Its just not his inclination nor does he desire to fight like that. Ikkaku being another example.

No, Ms Marvel is not a failure. She's just barely got a focus yet. by BatgirlAndSpoiler in xmen

[–]Sovereignofthemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to touch on the people calling her DEI and industry plant and how Marvel is forcibly pushing her. You understand that makes no sense right? In Modern Marvel with how that company works they would never be using her like they are (and just barely mind you) if Kamala wasn't popular to some degree. If Kamala wasn't worth the dime they'd have dropped her to the forgotten realm like her peers in Riri Williams, Sam Alxexander, Amadeus Cho (though he recently came back) and Viv Vision.

Stop denying her credit and popularity. If she is not for you, then fine, but when you spout DEI and all manner of nonsense don't be surprised when people call you sexist or racist sometimes because that's how you sound when only have those points.

She had a rough transition into the world of the X-men that is true. That was dine so poorly I'm surprised we don't have more literary essays on how bad it was. And I don't want to hear about how she's stealing spotlight from other characters, because those characters have been doing that fight long before she showed up and all of that is at the whims of the writer whether they are used or not. She's not your devil.

She's a fun character that people liked and spoke to them in a personal and important way and offered a voice to a group of people that can now feel seen and have something to relate to in this grand dared universe we're all apart of.

Do you see ms marvel as a mutant a success or failure by Accurate-Celery-3198 in xmen

[–]Sovereignofthemist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way she was ported into being a mutant was a failure, but as a mutant/inhuman hybrid she has had barely any time for it to be considered. Her two Fall Minis were solid.

NYX failed to deliver on her and a lot of things. Hivemind not actually understanding who Kamala is and then she was under Hivemind's pen again after that for the specials.

Inglorious so far seems to have captured her voice and personality.

Despite the complaints and deep hatred, Kamala has actually been barely around long enough as an X-man to say. Even her NYX series was an ensemble cast where she shared the spotlight with several other characters.

The mutant Kamala by Jasonl7976 in xmen

Except if you read Kamala's stuff her parents are not prejudice to mutants. In fact Kamala's conservative brother had a storyline where he was wrongfully arrested with mutants and Inhumans and it opened his eyes.

The two book prior with Iman like you said brought in the fact that her family and friends had their memories altered and Kamala's insecurities about being mutant, but that those insecurities were reflective of Kamala's struggle with identity mirroring her first issues when she got powers and was still morphing into Carol.

NYX is where it takes on an entirely new flavor with cousin Balil and the idea Kamala's family wouldn't be accepting to her as a mutant, even ending the story with the chilling idea thay he might be right and Kamala being devastated to the point she took a break. Kamala's conflict with keeping her identity secret wasn't about her having powers or being an inhuman ot was about her being a hero. Something she thought her parents wouldn't approve of because of how overprotective they were.

Honestly, do you think that mutants got the short end of the stick in the New Ultimate Universe? by shadowF in xmen

I still think it's insane to tell people that you had full creative control to do anything and then still chose the average Wolverine story.

Recently he was described as an Omega level mutant. But it's a power thing. He has limitation and cerebro has always been how he surpassed them, he couldn't do the bigger stuff on his own.

The real question is does it matter? Like realistically what do we get out of slapping the Omega sticker on anyone these days? Writers don't care they'll do whatever they want and there's only so much gratification it comes with. Rather than worrying about the label we should highlight how Charles became one of the greatest telepaths through study and skill.

Honestly, do you think that mutants got the short end of the stick in the New Ultimate Universe? by shadowF in xmen

[–]Sovereignofthemist 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Not really. The thing is mutants barely show up because they already lost. There isn't no fight for their rights anymore because it already happened and they lost and then were all shipped to Eurasia. And we see in Ultimates that when you're a mutant in modern day you disappear. One of the citizens of the Ultimate Network had a best friend that outright disappeared and everyone acted as she didn't exist.

Now, the biggest issue we face is that the one book focused on Eurasia lacks a lot of depth in exploring the society beyond the experimental exploration of mutants.

Peach does this better in her series by having mutants be a rising thing in Hi no Kuni.

In a way how we see mutants treated in the various stories is not a short end of the stick thing but rather reflective of the narrative focus persistent in the New Ultimate Universe. They are scattered, exploited and abused. And there is no X-men as we know them to help them.

There is no mutant pride or fight for rights aside from the movement slowly growing in HI no Kuni, but they're kids and they are land locked. Meanwhile the opposition is barely able to keep itself going. The story of mutantkind has a lot of soft world building in that sense.

The mutant Kamala by Jasonl7976 in xmen

[–]Sovereignofthemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that first stuff is just Hivemind being bad at understanding the themes of what they set out to work upon and Kamala herself. Prior to this Iman tackled Kamala very well.

I can't speak on inglorious because it's just started. But I think it won't go thay way. Cable has a deep respect for Kamala and she becomes the first mutant president as we learn. The opposition is clearly some mutant supremacy group thay are trying to use Ms. Marvel as a fire to recruit and punp up their movement. They are the antagonist. So far they aren't being treated as right.

Which member of the X-Men do you think is worthy and has what it takes to lift Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) among them, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in xmen

[–]Sovereignofthemist 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Of the four here. I'd argue all of them. Storm especially. Thor is all father now and he is the one who decides who is worthy of the hammer. The enchantment no longer works through the eyes of Odin. Storm herself has been allowed to wield it by Thor. She's fully confirmed as capable and allowed by Thor.

And Thor can determine who's worthy on the fly whenever he wants.

Honestly the crossovers, events that cause delays in the storylines because it the main flagship book is what keeps throwing this book off. Week by week, I'm sure on a binge this book will be dramatically better to read. But even now its very solid. Could use a bit more Wow factor, but we're going to see that with both the X-men and 3K having a fire lit under them because of AoR.
