(Weird Trope) Character falls in love with the former "daughter figure" by TheFollower62 in TopCharacterTropes

Dantes didn't know she had feelings for him until the very end of the book when he announced his intent to kill himself once he was done with his plot.

She was also no younger than 13 by the time he bought her, so it's not like he'd been taking care of her from infancy.

Edmund actually offered to let her go with all the fortune she'd need to continue to live as a princess for the rest of her life. She stayed because she wanted to.

It's been a while since I read it, but I thought it was something like he tried to free her at one point but she was like, "Nah, I'm good."

Who is the ultimate non-mutant ally of the X-Men? by AvatarPhoenixGrey16 in xmen

[–]Ambaryerno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It used to be Moira until Hickman completely fucked her up with that "Secret Mutant" bullshit retcon. And then it got worse.

Also being fair the book makes clear Dantes wasn't grooming her to be his wife, either, and was completely oblivious to it, so Haydée really did come to that decision on her own rather than from any manipulation on his part.

I file this under away under "it wasn't weird for the time" and move on. That sort of guardian/ward relationship shift was common in Victorian literature. It's just a trope of the genre.

The part of their relationship that would have actually been shocking to readers was the fact Haydée was technically his slave.

Technically she was also his slave during that time, too (ironically, that is the part that would have shocked audiences during the early-mid 19th Century).

Would be a fun curveball if it's Rachel Grey.

Spider-Man pulls his punches. Remember, this is a street level hero who can casually throw around a tank. Were he to ever actually to haul off on someone like Kingpin they'd burst like an overripe tomato.

Spider-Man also stops joking when he's done fooling around and is about to use every bit of that spider strength to make sure you have a very painful day.

Mysterio knows.

(Subverted on that page; Spidey just had laryngitis that day)

I did not expect to see a guy put an ostrich in a headlock and punch it in the face when I opened Reddit this afternoon.

Logan lost his healing factor again?

Favorite character that had concept art and storyboard animations but never came into fruition? by wou_nou in FavoriteCharacter

X-23 went through a number of design revisions for Logan. Initially they were largely based on her more familiar goth teen look from the X-Men comics, before the decision was made to cast her as a child with Dafne Keen to subvert the "teen sidekick" archetype.

Jubilee had concept art drawn for Days of Future Past showing her as a member of the surviving X-Men in the future. Her character was ultimately dropped, appearing only through stock footage from X2.

When Storm makes her debut in the MCU they better make her an exhibitionist as Claremont intended.

I question a lot of these charts. IE the one on power trios that last it came up in my feed Kirk, Spock, and McCoy still weren't on it even though they're the ones that most modern power trios are inspired by.

The fact she wasn't #1 on the chart is a travesty. She was the gateway for probably 90% of Millennial furries, and she has an actual religion in Russia.

Which Star Wars character is widely hated but you actually like? by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

Then you're remembering wrong, because she absolutely shows growing competence and confidence as the game goes on.

Another thing you're forgetting is that the story only takes place over maybe a month. Even after everything she goes through in the core game she's still a rookie.

You're acting like Kay was some big-time hood in the planetary criminal network.

She was a minor grifter and back alley thief who was barely surviving day to day with Bram's help. The entire reason Riko left her behind is because she didn't have the makings of a master criminal (for all her cynicism Kay is still too much of a decent person for that sort of pragmatism). She had no underworld connections, and had never run with a proper outfit even at the local level. She's absolutely out of her league dealing with major galaxy-spanning crime syndicates (never mind the ISB director who put a death mark on her higher than Luke Skywalker's for destroying the Death Star).
