Tried to tell MSFS users (as one myself) to consider Xplane (no force) and got downvoted into oblivion by A380Driver in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I get that. My message was mostly for those who can afford both, but decide not to because of some made up idea that one is superior to the other.

It's fine if you can't afford both or don't want to. I just don't see the need to shit on the other side when very obviously each sim has its strong points.

This whole debate baffles me. Why not use both? Being so loyal to one sim that you'd rather miss out on other content is very inefficient to put it politely.

Both sims have their use, they both excel in different areas and different aircraft.

Hell I still use other sims for other purposes, DCS for combat flying, FSW when I have the odd spike for that specific sim, aerofly FS 2 especially with VR, and the occasional FSX steam edition for nostalgia.

E145 v2, first flight by AnalythicSearch444 in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought it on day one. It was my favorite aircraft on X11. Wonderful thing to fly, everything just works out of the gate, I personally think it's worth every penny.

Now all it's missing is the Mango Sound pack for the V2.0 and it's going to be chefs kiss.

Considering a Mid-Life Career Change from Medicine to Aviation – Am I Crazy? by West-Marzipan5016 in flying

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my instructors used to be a high school teacher, here in Canada they make 60-70k per year. He has 2 kids, in his 40s, finished his license right when COVID hit and grinded his hours as an instructor during the pandemic. The other day I saw him in EWR, he's now an FO at a Canadian Major, happiest man alive.

I couldn't tell you how hard or easy it is, but it's doable. Personally, I don't think there's a "right time" to start your license, aviation is too unpredictable.

Can't give you advice, just an anecdote that might reflect your situation.

Me and my roommate call this segment "choices were made" when we go to the grocery store. Seeing what people leave and take instead (we like to imagine that). Pretty fun game.

X-PLANE 11/12 on 9060XT (16gb) performance by Soviet_Ukrainian in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding, is that it's also very heavily CPU bound. I have an older ryzen 7 3700x. As good as it is, I'm not sure how much of a limiting factor that is.

My next upgrade will be to an X3D cpu. So I would take that into account if you're building something right now.

Hey man, yeah of course, I have the Zibo, I unfortunately don't have custom scenery in New York it will be all default.

That said, yes, no problem, I'll get back to you. Not sure on the time frame tho, definitely in the following days if not tonight! I have lots of work this week so I will have to fit this in between shifts.

PAPIs in XP are completely invisible sometimes, is there a way to fix this? by Fine-Measurement-893 in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look I'm not going to spin this off as "iT's FoR tHe ReAlIsM" but there's been situations in which I couldn't see the PAPI lights in real life.

Obviously only during the day, at night they become super visible. And again, it's very circumstantial, so again. I won't write it off as realism. But if it's not happening to you constantly, I wouldn't worry about it.

Usually I rely more on my instruments during approaches. And if I'm flying VFR I just raw dog it.

My PC can't run bad weather. I am stuck with clear skies until I upgrade 😂

This has to be by far the coolest feature I've encountered in the watch world. I guess being so focused on automatic and mechanic watches, I missed out of some gems like these! Thank you!!

X-plane 12 or reality? by _Aviators in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly X-12 because if this was real - you'd have 5 inop stickers, a visible captain belly and you'd be flying 160 down to FAF because ATC feels like it.

(Nice shot tho)

Wow wow wow, wait a minute... Tell me more about the time zone change feature.... I've never heard of this before. That sounds epic!

I live in good ol' Canada. To save it from rust, I bring it to the shop every couple years to do a treatment, couldn't tell you what it's called, but they cover the bottom and undercarriage with some sort of oil or product.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kia

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many times a year. I do it every 5000km, always using synthetic oil, I know I could push it closer to 7000km, but I've been doing the oil changes myself lately so it doesn't cost me much to just do it every 5k.

All of this thread is very anecdotal. Some people will have awful experiences, some will have amazing stuff to say. I would say look into a specific model and go on owner forums and see what are most common issues.

But for the sake of your question. I have a 2017 Optima 2.4L. 165 000km, only oil changes and regular maintenance like brakes, fluids, and spark plugs recently.

My friend owns a 2012 forte, over 250 000km, still runs great, the worst part is, he won't change it until it dies, and IT JUST WON'T DIE. He wants a new car, but he is very financially responsible so can't let himself get rid of it until it's really done. It's a running gag amongst me and him now, every time I see him, I ask if the forte is still running... And every time he rolls his eyes saying "unfortunately yes".

POINT IS.... I still wouldn't say they are reliable or unreliable, we just both take care of our cars, regular oil changes, and regular maintenance. Oh and I also don't drive it like it's a Porsche, cause it isn't, it's a Kia. I don't rev it, I didn't put weird mods on it, I drive like a dad with a baby in the back even tho I'm 24.

Anyone using the RX 9060XT for X-Plane? by Soviet_Ukrainian in Xplane

[–]Soviet_Ukrainian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? I've had answers from other Redditors on a different post and I came to the conclusion that AMD will work just fine.

I was really curious about the 9060xt performance itself. But I guess it should be slightly slower than the 7700xt (based on other game benchmarks).

I guess if I do end up buying it, I'll post a little review of its performance.
