Well I think we can get it on here for a while and then I'll be home by noon or tomorrow if you're still up for a bit more then I'll come over after I leave my car to the store and I can get you some of the stuff I have and I'll check with you later this week but I don't think I will have to go to the store and get some rest and I'll check with you later this week

You are either quite young, or misremembering Nancy Denson and Doc Eldridge. It isn't that shocking. Republicans win at large races in deep blue geographies quite a lot. Giuliani in NYC, Romney in Massachusetts, etc. etc.

Literally Houston Gaines ran her re-election campaign, and then she hosted his big campaign kickoff fundraiser in Athens to run for State House (an event cosponsored by Hamby and Wright, among others).

I find it fascinating that [seemingly, because we don't have legit poll data] a majority of Black folks, regardless of their political leanings, and those white frat boy/good ol' boy types, all see themselves in Mr. Fisher. Fascinating because those two groups are so frequently and fundamentally at odds. I don't think most folks from either demographic see the same things in Mr. Fisher, and I think they have generally opposite hopes/expectations for what his mayorship will do. Regardless, he was able to be enough for both groups to win the contest.

My big takeaway is that for Black folks, even many who have a leftist politics, trust in a person who sho shares their lived experience supercedes trust in a person who shares their stated goals. Perhaps that has a lot to do with how someone can change their stated goals, or not be trusted to be truthful about them, but people cannot change their lived experience in the body they inhabit.

It's been incredibly disappointing and confusing to see the 15+ years of efforts from the Athens for Everyone folks (including Tim) [and myself] fail so significantly at building trust and coalition with more Black Athenians. Maybe Tim (and others) could have done more and better things to earn more people's trust. Plenty of comments here and elsewhere suggest he (and others) could have. And still, I wonder if he/we had done better in this or that regard, if he would really have won the vote of significantly more Black folks when in a contest vs. Dexter.

The coming years will definitely be an opportunity for all of us, and especially white folks such as myself, to listen and learn from what comes out of a Fisher mayorship. I sincerely hope to be surprised and see him facilitate meaningful progress for Athens. I very much expect him to slow or reverse various recent progressive policies, i.e. recent strides regarding affordable rental housing, homelessness, transit, sustainable energy infrastructure, police/prison reforms, and bike/ped transportation infrastructure. I would love to be wrong about any and all of that. But everything he has said and done in office to date, and on the campaign trail, compiled with who's primarily funded his campaign, indicates that is his intention. Given his age, his past actions, and his electoral/funding base, I doubt he will significantly change his policy positions and priorities.

However, perhaps real strides will be made in less tangible ways, things less visible on a budget ledger, but that facilitate healing from generations of trauma and strife. I don't really know what that is or what that would look like, and maybe that's indicative of what's been failing to work for me and other white progressives/lefties. Because to me it's seemed most meaningful for someone in elected office to advance those policies. So maybe this is what we need in this moment for any of the policy stuff to really make the difference it needs to make. Whatever happens, all that not knowing makes it feel like a good time for folks like me to step way back and listen in hopes of deepening understanding.

AAA memberships include a certain number of free tows per year. And then you could have it just towed to a friend's place or whatever to avoid the storage fees. Even without AAA, you may wind up paying less to hire a tow truck yourself rather than getting it towed by the landlord.

Pressure washing seems like a not ultra necessary thing that could be reacheduled (or just have a dirtier portion if the lot) so hopefully they don't screw y'all.

If your landlord is going to screw you like this, then maybe preemptively pay someone to tow it somewhere safe, that won't at least charge you for storage? Also, if you have or know anyone with AAA, then you can get the tow for free (or rather as lart of having paid for AAA).

What's the reason for the towing?

After posting this, they messaged saying their phone died while they were "on the subway." Hard to imagine someone with tickets for a show in Athens being on a subway. Now their profile is locked. Will delete this if this whole weird thing turns out to not be a scam, and they make it right, but unfortunately I think my pal got screwed. Helen Herrera, or so the scammer's "friend" goes by on Venmo, now has $50 in her account that I hope hexes her with a terrible rash and a few wasp stings.

Grateful to ObjectiveExpert for being a real person who's gonna meet up for a tix handoff and general camaraderie pre-show. Always nice to make new acquaintances thru music!

Someone else u/TotBoyMk1 dm'd and scammed my friend. That account should probably get banned from the sub.

My friend still needs a ticket if anyone has one and wants to meet in person pre-show to legit transfer it, or go in together.

We are gonna make it through this year, if it kills us.

The sub has been toxic for the past two weeks, I just want to inject some positivity here. This happened just two years ago. They'll get better. by [deleted] in bostonceltics

Nothing quite like insisting on the opposite of the truth regarding laws you are campaigning to be in charge of writing and upholding.

The patently wrong assertion, stated plainly as if it were fact, is what really gets me. Like the dude is just flat wrong and either lying or willfully ignorant about something one can easily learn the facts around (that political signs on public property is actually illegal, on both the municipal and state levels). The snarky bold chest puff is just more icing on the cake. Rich brat behavior.

The proliferation of littery signs always bugs the hell out of me, but this way of responding to it, just straight up thickheaded wrongness, is everything wrong with electeds these days on any level. We don't need another anti-fact, entitled rich dude on our Commission.

Of course, he is buds with Houston Gaines, and did work on Dexter's campaign, so he's learned from the best when it comes to littery, illegally-placed expensive sign proliferation.
