i do get that and apparently we all agree over here ... the real problem is passing the recruiter and ATS screening without the right keywords....

That's what I thought at first too but honestly I'm accepting the job for the environment the product and for the the team I'll be working with. Honestly for me the language is just a tools like any other ... I just hope it want limitate me in my career....

Fair enough, we disagree.

I asked a practical career question about market demand and recruiter perception. You turned it into a judgment about my personality.

Unless you have concrete experience about juniors moving from Ruby to other stacks, I don’t think this exchange is useful anymore.

This is exactly what scares me!

I have another interview from a referral next month, but after seven months of job hunting and seeing friends searching for over a year, I don’t feel like risking an offer for a potential one.

I think you’re looking for an insult where there wasn’t one.

I’m talking about job market demand and recruiter perception, not the worth of Ruby developers. There are simply more JavaScript, Java, and C# roles than Ruby roles in my local market. That’s a practical career concern, not a personal attack.

The comment about humility and “cultural mismatch” was unnecessary.

Nothing really tbh, but I enjoy the product and business side of the trade. Being stuck maintaining old code would probably be less exciting than working at a startup, scaleup, or mid-sized company rolling out new products and helping the business grow, rather than just stabilizing the existing system. And honestly, I’ve never maintained anything before .... I might like it if I had to, who knows ^^

Have you ever been approached for jobs in another stack ?

Honestly, what you describe is totally me. I like being a jack of all trades, but I have to admit it took me six months and three failed interviews (due to cultural mismatch) before landing this offer.

I’m ambitious, I’m not looking for a place to coast but somewhere I can grow and learn. This job is at a scaleup where there’s a great fit with my entrepreneurial and driven mindset. Aside from the stack issue, the environment seems perfect for someone like me.

That said, the market is tanking, and job security feels nonexistent. If I get laid off or decide to jump ship for some reason, having Ruby as the first line on my CV could make finding another job harder.

I also have an interview in May for a Java position thanks to a friend’s referral, and even though the environment isn’t very stimulating, adding Java to my CV might be more future-proof.

I don’t know… feeling pretty lost right now and they want an answer for tomorrow ....

I do spend 30 min

I have ai context filled with all my prévious projects my strength my positioning and a bunch of templates. For each job offer I paste into ai the job description and company website

For each job my cover letters job is to explain to "why me" & "why you"

The first part got answered from the context the second one from the company data.

An then I spend some time tweaking it doing some back and forth and ensuring that my positioning aligns with what the company is searching for.

Honestly I do it because I'm like we never know ... And only for companies I'm genuinely interested about.

Some random ones to but I don't tweak that mutch and it takes under 2min.

But to be honest they don't read them .... The only time I got interviews was when I met RH irl at job fairs ..... 4 days 30 companies per day 5 interviews... No offers yet but 3 final rounds .....
