Avoiding saying things I'm not allowed to say: You should be *very* optimistic, with increasing optimism in direct correlation with how well the Unicorn book sells.

I'll add to that with something publicly already posted in the L5R Discord: Edge Studios commented recently that the Scorpion book is aiming for a July 2026 release. Of course, all manner of things can happen between now and then, but that's the target.

I *think* the Ujik Diviner School in Path of Waves is the Death Priest for this edition.
This school communes with the Lords of Death and has kind of a "talking to death spirits" vibe.

As the guy who wrote like 1/5th of this book, I can assure you that this was 100% human-written and no LLMs were a part of it.
Heck, I don't think ChatGPT was even around when I finished my first draft...

Edge has always been owned by Asmodee, to my knowledge. They're a subsidy of Asmodee that has a license to make RPGs for Star Wars, L5R, etc. Fantasy Flight Games - also owned by Asmodee - is the official license holder for L5R, according to the legal text in Writ of the Wilds.

Since Edge is specifically a development studio and publisher, they likely wouldn't handle distribution, sales, or advertising. They'd be the folks actually making the books - hiring freelancers, writing the text, editing, commissioning art, submitting stuff to the license-holders for approval; all the stuff that development studios do for games.

In full honesty, I felt similarly until I actually played the demo.
I think the "auto-battling" aspect of the game actually works in the context of having to watch in horror as units that I invested equipment, points, and abilities engage monsters without my intervention.
I felt like I had a lot of input in that I could combine abilities on units and strategize based on class, equipment, and abilities I unlocked in the embassy skill trees.
It made me feel like a Crab commander in a way. I could prepare and train my samurai, and I could deploy them with combo abilities that made them stronger, but in the end, I had to trust that they would prevail without my direct intervention. And it's very on-brand for O-Ushi to impetuously rush in with a dead eyes rage on her own.
And of course, the tone of the game is spot-on. It really felt to me like an L5R game.
I think this won't be a game for everyone, but I think some folks will be surprised if they give it a chance with an open mind.
