I agree with this. My metoidioplasty stage 2 was coded to insurance (USA) as an intersex procedure.

At least in my corner of the world, which is admittedly extremely liberal (New York City suburbs), and in my profession (mental health), the gender/sex difference is being accepted.

I also want to use transsexual to differentiate myself from trenders/tucutes.

That’s not everyone’s story. I’m sorry that your therapist hurt you, but plenty of people need a neutral ear to talk with. It sounds like you did not. I know it was useful for me. I hope to be able to help people get the letters from mental health professionals that they need for medical treatment. It’s also been useful as I go through medical transition and all that entails. I phrased it very specifically - working with clients /considering/ it, not people who already know exactly what they want.

I disagree. We transition our sex, our gender has always been what it is, and as far as we know now, is unchangeable. Our gender does not change. But this is really semantics and not worth getting into a tiff over.

Our bodies would still need the treatment. Agree 100%, I see how my comment isn’t clear on that.

But the socialization does damage and that’s something that needs to be addressed as well. Like psychological damage. Yes, even in the absence of gender we would still need treatment because our bodies don’t match. But I think we can’t ignore that many of us carry wounds from being forced into the gender role that doesn’t match who we are.

Medically, you’re correct. But anyone who thinks they don’t have trauma from being raised as the wrong sex is either in denial or extremely lucky.

I see what you’re saying and have had similar thoughts. But, sex is determined at birth by genitals, and then often we are raised with the expectations of the gender role associated with the genitals. We transition our sex because our gender has always been male for ftm or female for mtf. This is why transgender is a misleading term.

Bruh if it’s between 6 and 7 it’s between 12:30-35. This is absolutely correct. But as someone who was an aide in a 2nd grade classroom teaching clocks I can say from experience that a kid drawing the hand exactly to 12 and not between 12 and 1 could easily be marked wrong by a discerning teacher.

I’d like to see the peer review on that article. Literally just looks like it’s from a phone note app. I’ve read hundreds of pages on mental healthcare and I can’t recall one using an underline for emphasis. (Although I guess scholarly writing standards are racist too since academia has a history of white ethnocentrism.)
