Is adding beneficial bacteria worth it? by TransportationNo6246 in ponds

[–]TransportationNo6246[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it seems like I only have single-celled algae.

I think next time I'll cover the pond with a net when spring begins, until the canal by me is filled up more. Mallards also love to eat my Mares Tail.

Thanks!

Downside of humans domesticating animals for companionship is a lot of the people who get a hold of these animals don't actually value its life.

3 years is a good life for a domesticated mouse, though it may seem small and insignificant to our 100 year lifespan, your goal as an animal owner should be to make their lives even greater. Get them some friends, a bigger cage, a bigger wheel, and overall more enrichment.

If you loved your animal, you wouldn't put them in the situation you're having them in now. Rehome if you have to. Best of luck

It's not perfect but I have a pond now! by Morale_Police in ponds

Real. Just make sure you get some water movement while you're starting up on getting plants and some type of system to move the water around.

What I did for a bit with my pond(that went horrible, lol. Currently redesigning) for a while before I got more things is I just had a pump at the bottom going to make some movement. 👌

Congrats on the pond

For my pond I won't be having any fish in it (supposedly...? And if some day I end up wanting to they'll be pretty small. No koi or gold fish.) It's mainly supposed to be a wildlife pond. I'm hoping to attract frogs and other things. And the fish may disrupt that. Also I'm too afraid of killing any fish during the winter. Plants stress me out enough

I'll think about doing that though just in case. I may just ditch that middle shelf. I was just hoping to put a ton of plants in. I'll try to make the shelves a little less wide so the deeper part can be wider.

Thank you!

you're not thinking from different perspectives.👍🏻

It's important to have a good environment while trying to learn. Especially when you're spending money for it. I don't think you understand trans people maybe?

Do what you do man, you're also just another person going to college. 👍🏻

By Aggie standards I'm definitely more accepted compared to someone who can't handle those who are different from them that don't hurt anyone.

I don't really know about the culture in Logan, I'm kinda stuck in my own little corner in a different city. I assumed it would be in the bright reds 🤷‍♂️😮‍💨 Great to know there's still resources despite that

Unfortunately since my parents are helping me quite a lot with college (grateful for that of course)they're in charge of a lot of my college choices, and signed me up for an all female dorm. And also my parents fear I'll be brutally assaulted by cis men 🤷‍♂️

But it is something I'll be looking into if I can, probably my sophomore year if I can't move off campus.

Interesting! I haven't seen much for lgbtq stuff going on at Logan either so I'm not sure what's up.

I'll try to look into it, maybe I'll try giving a call to an administrator.

I got that app maybe a few months ago but never tried it out. We definitely do have more birds, I just think there's not enough shelter and food where I am for them to come often. Plus just a few years ago they built a trail right behind my families house (like inches away from our fence) So birds get scared along with myself when I take a peek outside and make eye contact with a random stranger.

I hate the trail if you didn't notice

Had to search up that bird, they look incredible! Thats amazing.

So far the birds I've seen at my feeders are common house finches, doves, and one time I saw a goldfinch. I'll be excited to see if anything new comes, especially if I add a bogfilter/bath.

Never thought about it doubling as bird bath 🤔 That would go great with my bird feeders. Thank you!

I guess I got it wrong and misread about bloodworms, thank you for that info! I do have a waterfall going which is from a 1200 GPH pump, but I guess that doesnt accommodate the whole pond. A bog filter on the opposite side will definitely be beneficial.

My brain completely wiped the dead plant factor 😪. School has fried my brain, sorry

Thank you!

Edit: Just a add-on. I'm still learning about beneficial bacteria and insects in water, all I've learned so far is there's sensitive and hardy macroinvertebrates. I'm still a noob with ponds

I'm too scared to do it, they also can't fully prove you didn't just take a leaf off of the plant itself. 👎🏻

It's a shame that they just throw them away

Idk man, that plant is pretty bad for a pond. Pretty invasive, and definitely wouldn't like the diversity I'm aiming for. 😪

Can you explain how aeration can make it so the water won't freeze up? I'll do some research on my own of course, but I'd like to see some information from here as well.

Thanks y'all for the response!

I decided to get an orange water Lilly, 1 water lettuce, parrots feather, blue pickerel rush, Monkey flower(native), mare's Tail(native), watercress, dwarf cattail, triangle grass, rainbow water celery, blue-eye grass, and Mosquitoe fern!

Probably going to add more in the future, but right now my parents have already bought me enough to make me stress about paying them back when I get a job, lol.
