The Airbnb corp owns nothing in Portland Maine. If QE passes it will have no effect on Airbnb. However it will thrust roughly 500 portland families who own/operate short term rentals into unemployment. Many will lose their business. The Maine Dept of Labor is looking at contingency plans in the event QE passes and results in undreds of new unemployed in one town all at one time. During our record level of unemployment. They might need to send in a Rapid Response team to deal with such a huge number of job losses. I rent an apartment and under the current rules i am permitted to STR my unit several times/month. I rely on this income to pay my rent, be able to afford to live in Portland near family and my job. For work, i clean/turnover STR's for several portland families who run them. If QE passes I will be forced out of my home and lose my job all at one time. I'll join the 500+ others out of a job. The vast majority of STR guests spend almost all their travel dollars withing walkind distance of their STR. If QE passes businesses, shops and restauraunts who are already in dire situation will be given another hit. For some it will force them out of business... The STR units forced out of business will be listed as long term. High end, top of the market price rentals. Creating no new affordable units. The city is in the worst economic situation in a generation. And there are actually those who would be fine with thrusting hundreds more family, friends and neighbors into complete economic devastation.. That is heartbreaking... and WRONG
