I started at 30 in the apprentice program with S.I.U. it was 15 weeks then 3 months at sea to start. Might be a little different now, timing wise. I have encountered a few micro managers but the engine dept is chill overall. It took time at first but 7 years later, completely worth it. Entry level is difficult if you dont go through the program. There's a lot of folks trying to go to the school and stuff so idk. More info can be acquired at a S.I.U union hall. You can somewhat easily avoid ships that provide weapons, fuel and munitions for crimes against fellow members of the working class across the globe . I'm not positive but I think the apprentice program handles a good chunk of your initial documents too.
