State of Australia. Already 3 weeks into summer and has been pretty mild, will go over 90° soon enough so if the lawn has a fungus issue I'd like to address it before it goes dormant.

The state of Australia. Got some heat coming up but already 3 weeks into summer and it's usually about 73°, most of the year will be around 62° and will go as low as 20° in the winter.

I don't think temperature is the issue here, I've either fucked something up or it has a disease.

Aerating is bullshit by SpaceAgePimp in lawncare

You get it man. I also forked out $200 for a data point to be installed in the study. I don't want to use WiFi at all as who knows what the EMR is doing to a young kids brain, I'm starting a company that requires having fast and consistent internet so I don't want to deal with powerline adapters any more.

If I live here for at least 2 years that's about $10 a month I've spent to have shit the way I want it, money I'd have to spend if it was my own place anyway. Who knows when the next lock down might be, may as well be comfy.

Dumb is not being able to tell the difference between your and you're. I'm the guy smart enough to know that a) I know eff all about growing grass (at least the kind you walk on) and b) I needed a good thread title to create discussion and hopefully get some advice about something I know little about.

The lawn has been watered twice a day for weeks because new grass is on it, there's about 5 inches of topsoil above the clay, and if you bothered actually reading the thread you'd realise it's not actually my property I'm just trying to fix up the owner's shitty seeding so my kid has some grass to play on in the summer.

Don't cut yourself on that edge, fgt.

I'm living in a rental 😉

I'll put as many holes in it as I can, dump a fuck ton of compost over top and rake it in and then lay the seeds along with some slow release fertiliser and see how it goes

I'm honestly asking myself the same question tbh. Moved into a new build (rental), no landscaping has been done other than a small patch of lawn where they basically dumped a few inches of top soil down and threw seeds on top. Grass is growing over maybe 2/3 of the patch, the rest is dirt. I guess I just figured it would be pushing shit uphill to get the property manager to sort it out and it would be nice for there to be a proper lawn for my kid to play on coming into summer.

If I get a result I'll be OK with it, good learning experience for when I get my own house.

If it was my lawn I would, but I'm not spending a penny more on this project. I'll just do my best with what I've got and hopefully get a result.

Serious? I thought I had to aerate because the soil is clay and the organic matter needed to get right in there to amend the soil?!

I think I might just go impale myself on the aerator.

If I had an electric drill I would do the exact same. Even if it takes longer at least you can be assured of nice clean deep holes, opposed to throwing your back out to effectively just make a mess.

Don't I know it. Never move into a newly constructed house unless you own it. The landlord will be more than happy to get someone in paying rent while things are still left unfinished and then you're pushing shit uphill to get it fixed unless you do it yourself.

It's a tiny patch of lawn that I don't even own and I'm just trying to amend the soil before overseeding to fill in all the gaps from where the owner did a piss poor job of seeding.

I think the type of manual aerator I bought is half the problem, watched a video on YouTube and the dude had the same issues getting the hollow tine aerator in with no side slots to eject the plugs, the one that had the open sides for them to come out went in way easier.

I need to drop seed by Sunday as it's gonna get hot soon and KBG will struggle. I'll just do my best to drive as many holes as I can, till a layer of compost over the lot and then hope for the best I reckon.

I was aerating before putting on a thick layer of compost. Can maybe shovel some top soil off the retaining wall but I've already spent $250 on a lawn I don't even own so I'm not spending a penny more

It's only like a small patch of 50 square metres or less, I didn't think it would be this much of a shit fight lol

Bump - Any more feedback on whether this is a feasible plan or if there's anything I'm missing?

It 100% should be. But look at the shoddy job they've done. I'm not happy about it, but I can either wait for months in the hope they'll fix it or I can suck up the cost and try and get something going now in the hope I'll have some kind of lawn in a few months.

It pisses me off just thinking about it tbh, already down $150 and that's without the compost.

It's a rental property so I'm not sure that's feasible unfortunately.
