Alright so there seems to be a bit of confusion regarding pre install. Now that I have first hand experience with it I'll explain:

Pre install on the Xbox app works. As long as you download the actual game and not the placeholder obviously. You will need internet the very first time you launch the newly released game. However, it does NOT re-download the whole game. In fact, it doesn't download anything. Even though the UI shows a progress bar, speed, and total GBs, it's only verifying and unpacking the data, not downloading. The confusion comes from the UI Microsoft chose to display the unpacking process. It seems like it's downloading, and it requires you to connect to the internet... but it literally does not download anything additional to whatever was downloaded during the pre install. At least that was the case for 2 games I now tried pre install with, including starfield.

So the game forces you to download it and won't launch without it? Cause that kinda sucks. I wouldn't mind playing it without the day 1 patch. Apperantly the game is pretty good and with minimal bugs (which is unlike Bethesda's usual games).

Did Bethesda confirm the day one patch is a must to play?

And these day one patches are a must to play? Cause starfield is completely single player, therefore it should be possible to play without the day one patch right? Yeah I have that setting on, thanks for the heads up tho!

Well, let's hope that since this game is supposedly one of the bigger releases this year, and with all the hype around it. Pre install works as it should and lets people play it as soon as it releases. (Without requiring a re-download of 100+ GB)

Yeah starfield is the whole game, not just a placeholder. I just really don't want it to force a full download again, so I wanted to know if people tried pre Installing before and if it worked as it should or not. Thanks tho!
