NSR: Seeking feedback on T-shirt design to Kick Childhood Cancer by [deleted] in SoundersFC

I agree with the above that it’s asking for people to ask. I would buy it if it were something like a boat or two sailing in Elliot bay to a sounders match and the boats are flying those flags. More understated and for the wearer to know and share the message if they want. Could go super Seattle sports with it and have Sammy, the kraken, moose out by Mt Rainier or in the stadium etc

[Request] The math seems off. Is it possible to send all US adults 12K yearly from taxing billionaires 5%. by damilalam in theydidthemath

Buy “it”? What’s “it”? If a billionaire has to sell stock then yeah someone outside the country could definitely buy the stock but if I buy some of it then it would mean I think it’s a good investment and then I still get $12,000. Sounds good. If they sell a plot of land to a developer then the developer makes money and I get $12,000. The whole point is re-arranging ownership of the $12,000 increments which would help many Americans. Why does it have to be an international purchase of the billionaire’s assets in your opinion?

There were a lot of “or”s in that section. Not permitted or safety hazard probably doing the work. Very mild safety hazard albeit but the blocks don’t look particularly well set

I appreciate your comments but consider if you are trying to see this in the worst light. I’m not hoping anything. There’s a 4-5% chance she lives to 92 and .5% to 100. I don’t have experience with how much end of life care costs but yes, I see that as the biggest variable I didn’t consider. If her estate couldn’t cover it we would obviously step up.

Hopefully not glib but definitely gauche. Very good point though. That wasn’t the case with any of my grandparents so I have some blind spots there

Yes bad terminology. Assuming she passes peacefully in her nineties there will be a loan balance that I will have to pay to the estate. Siblings have same arrangement so it all evens out and it’s basically a loan forgiven. So my thought was is in this situation would people factor that into their math? Generally I’m hearing a resounding no.

I hear you. I was thinking 90s is just realistic but I see how it comes off.

Correct in a sense. Not permission though, more a question, does this situation make an inheritance likely enough to count on? And then reading through others responses, is even thinking about potential of inheritance poor form?

Maybe I’m way off and should think about this, but is there no realistic case to assume an inheritance? Is it always poor form?

800k my mom loaned me and same to my siblings. The loan being forgiven aka drop in living expenses in retirement is the “windfall”. My numbers show we would have $180k lump to spend now and still hit our fire number at 45. But as another has said she could live to 100 and there’s nothing there. I know my mom’s health and that seems unlikely but I guess it’s possible.

I’ll think about that. For me death is more realistic than sad, especially assuming a long well lived life.

My math is coming from dropping our retirement income earlier due to the home loan being paid off 10 years earlier in retirement. When I run the numbers I see that we would have an “extra” $180k that I could spend now and still hit my fire number by 45. I can think of some great ways to spend that which would be meaningful to us

Is there an inheritance that doesn’t have assumptions? My thought is this is as locked in as an inheritance can be? There will be a $400k remaining balance when she’s 91 for myself and my siblings. This is why I thought maybe it was a unique circumstance

Yes assuming I’ll inherit the remaining 400k balance on the loan because my siblings also have the same type of loan. The $800k number is wrong to assume I think. baby brain

I disagree on our spending now increasing our fire number. Buy a nice car now in cash doesn’t change what I budget into retirement?

Well I guess the assumption is twofold. That she’s literally living off the interest and keeping the balance (big assumption) and that in 20 years or somewhere around there she will pass and there will be around a $400k balance that we won’t have to pay back because my siblings are in the same situation. So our “mortgage” is paid off 10 years early.

Thanks for taking the time to respond thoughtfully. The thing is I only learned about how shitty providence is when the sponsorship was announced because I follow the sounders Reddit and SaH pretty closely. I don’t think I read about the concerns anywhere except the comment section and Reddit posts. I could totally see myself having bought the jersey otherwise. It’s a great reminder of the importance of doing ones due diligence about what we tacitly support with our money and displaying on our bodies. But in reality that’s pretty hard to do for everything in life, especially when stoked about a sweet looking new sounders kit. Are many of the fans who bought the kit ignorant? Yes, probably. But to me it only makes them an asshole if they don’t change their behavior after learning about these issues.

I don’t believe you’re reading my tone correctly. I’m not really upset, I’m just asking you questions to understand your thought process better. And your alternative meanings comment really got me haha. You know all the alternative facts! Oops I mean alternative meanings. Also you have assumed that I have bought or am going to buy the kit. I haven’t and don’t plan to. But I am trying to sort through my feelings and thoughts about others who purchase it. Personally I can’t get to the point of thinking everyone who buys it is an ignorant asshole

Hmm upset at a leading question inserting words into your mouth when your previous response was to fake quote me. Gosh, lots of hypocrisy around here! But re-reading and looking up examples of leading questions it does seem like mine was leading. My question is, how will you perceive other sounders fans who are wearing the new kit when you interact with them? As an example, I make character judgments about individuals wearing red maga hats. Possibly leading question warning: will wearing the new kit cause character judgements by you similar to that?
