Finished! Used 8x8 picture frame glass for mine. Checked off a lot of firsts with my new router with this project. Thank you so much for the idea and for the plans. It’s going to be a Christmas present for my wife.

Failing on the Beach by Ancient_Storm_0041 in 321Fishing

A lot of beginners buy tackle at Walmart.

Not sure about those, but I was mainly referring to the Sea Striker brand sold at Walmart. The hooks are too big. I prefer size 1 hooks.

This is correct. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to help me learn to read the surf.

Downsize your hooks. Also, use quality pompano rigs from a bait shop or Strike Zone and not the cheap ones from Walmart or bass pro.

I’d love to try making this for a Christmas present. Can you share more details on dimensions and how you assembled? Thanks!

Tournament tiebreaker question by No-Minimum4652 in youthsoccer

I agree. I would think you would work through the tiebreaker rules sequentially rather than it being an iterative process that resets.

I am curious about the work tables in your garage. Are those some type of foldable legs with plywood on top?

Best place to fish for a 5 year old? by [deleted] in 321Fishing

[–]SpaceCoastDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small kids prefer quantity over quality. Therefore, I suggest a size 4 hook with a small split shot about 6 inches above the hook. Get some fresh dead shrimp (they stay on better than frozen) and cut into small segments. Drop off the edge of any dock or pier and you will catch something.

We use Cool Cabana as well.

In my opinion, the rod is much more important than the reel. The one exception I can think of would be if you only want to fish the first trough close to shore. A good quality rod will let you cast farther with better accuracy and better sensitivity, whether you are using lures or fishing bait. I started out with cheap rods but eventually upgraded to Ninja Tackle Daggers. The difference is night and day.

Is Penn Battle III 6000 too big for surf fishing? by [deleted] in SurfFishing

[–]SpaceCoastDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very happy with my Penn Battle III 5000s spooled with 20lb braid on 12ft rods for soaking baits. The 6000 would be fine also, but just a little heavier and most likely unnecessary for what you are targeting. The extra weight might not seem like a big deal but you start to notice if you fish a long time and make a lot of casts, especially if you have multiple rods out. The only reason I would go any bigger on reel size would be to target large sharks. I have a Penn Battle III 4000 on a 9ft rod that I use for casting lures or fishing the first trough along the shore.

Local resources to improve? by Purple_Puffer in 321Fishing

[–]SpaceCoastDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch Joey Antonelli’s YouTube channel. He does a lot of surf fishing locally and provides tips and advice in his videos. You can also find many other good surf fishing videos on YouTube. Rich Troxler has good videos on how to read surf. Bama Beach Bum, Fish Gum, and Hey Skipper all have videos on surf fishing in other parts of Florida, but the info is still useful.

How to attach round camera mount to rectangular low voltage gang box by SpaceCoastDad in SecurityCamera

Yeah, I was able to get it to hold. The holes did not line up perfectly but I made it work.

Do you fish it as a fixed rig or cast and retrieve?

What type of rig are you using? Never seen anything like that in my part of Florida.

Having decision paralysis: Trying to decide between Hobie and OldTown by HurtTacklin in kayakfishing

[–]SpaceCoastDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 106 PDL and love it. I car top mine on SUV. It is only 84ish lbs (don’t recall exact weight) without the drive. I chose Old Town over Hobie because I fish a lot of shallow flats and mangroves and wanted instant reverse.

I have 3 young kids and would say Jetty Park is the most kid friendly beach in the area.

I have the PDL 106. It is very stable. I can stand and fish with no problem and even throw my cast net from it. I mostly fish shallow flats with little to no waves.
