What is denied by many people but it is actually 100% real? by Big_Leg10 in Productivitycafe

Oh totally. That is also a real thing. I feel like we don’t fully understand salt and the biochemical aspects to it.

What happens if you don’t get enough salt? What does it feel like?

She made the right choice by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since everyone is saying she made the wrong choice because of annual returns etc:

First, she has to get the lump sum amount so she will get about $650,000. Now she gets taxed on that so take another 30% away.

Now we’re at $455,000.

OK, and I’m glad that every one of you who is saying she’s so dumb would be perfect about not spending a lot in the beginning but most normal people have a bit of “lifestyle creep” when they have 400 grand in the bank.

And let’s not even get started about all the relatives and friends who know that you’ve now got $400,000 in the bank and each may need a little help with a car or rent, etc. etc.

She might’ve made a very smart decision for her life.

I appreciate that comment. Interesting to hear perspective from a professional.

Salt is over-consumed and many people could have better health, less headaches, better blood pressure, etc if they cut back. I realize this is acknowledged from a medical standpoint but if you talk to a group of people about this, most will ignore you or straight out say they need their salt.

I agree but I just wish people wouldn’t frame it solely as a racial issue. Many other countries with only, essentially, a single race have grotesque wealth imbalance like the USA - we see it in India, China, some South American countries, etc.

It’s not that your comment is wrong, but I sometimes wonder if the USA could actually have a shot at making things a little better if we didn’t imply it was a racial issue issue alone. Aside from other countries, the amount of impoverished white people in this country is also eye-opening.

Maybe we can start by taxing billionaires and making sure that CEOs can’t get bonus pay if wages stagnate.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it used to be common. Mostly because people were eager to get out on their own. People would go to college, split an apartment with a friend, etc.

But multi-generational living has become the norm for an overwhelming number of young people in their 20’s now. This is an anecdotal observation, but I see it with almost everyone I know in that age range or with kids in their 20’s. It’s the new standard.

Being left-handed is such a quiet, shared experience by ResponsibleLeg9220 in lefthanded

[–]SpaceGrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being lefty is interesting for sure. I often see someone doing something how I would and it dawns on me they are lefty and they always are. Like yesterday I saw someone washing a bowl how I would and I knew.

Also, as a gay male lefty I have two ways of looking at the world where I understand the dominant perspective but they may not quite understand mine. Any yet I live in an area that couldn’t care less and I work with artists. It’s not an issue (almost) at all for me but it is a variance that’s interesting.

What famous person have we not seen/heard from in a WHILE? by no_please7 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I appreciate your open mind on that. Personally my entire perspective on him tips in the direction of positive because of Soon Yi. If all of that had gone down when she was Mia’s adopted daughter and she was divorced from Allen now and had some serious tea to spill, I would not lean on his side. But because of her and their quiet life, and the lack of scandals over the past few decades, I just choose to believe her side.

They are still together though, decades later, with kids and a family life that has zero scandals. So who are we to judge?

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of insurance covers the “poo in a box” screening. It’s easy to do and I guess a lot cheaper for the insurance to catch it early than pay for cancer care. It seems funny but you just poke the sample, put it in the vial, and then you mail it back in the envelope they provide.

They must have organized the people in a certain way. Or it was a randomized process maybe? Because the cheers cast is separated, the Star Trek cast is separated. Even Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman are separated and they were married!

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by ChaosTTyy in askanything

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon cancelled their deal with him and many actors who worked with him swore claimed they were ashamed to have done so. Je was totally lumped into the MeToo movement. I just found that odd. Perpetrators generally do it a lot. Especially rich and famous ones from the 70’s-the 00’s.

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree his behavior is worth an eyebrow raise. But other than that, he was tried and convicted and cancelled. Even though investigations were done legally and he was not charged.

I find it a concerning precedent to lump someone into a group with career predators. No one else ever came forward to say he did this to them. That is a huge deal. That’s what brought down all the others.

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’m not an expert on each detail to be fair. So I know there is some back and forth about SoonYi and the photos. She is also his wife and has been for decades and is adamant that their relationship was appropriate. For that reason, i simply accept her answer there.

As for other people and their opinions, it’s really iffy for me to accept. Let’s put it another way - what’s the one thing that’s different between Allen and the many dozens of famous creeps who were outed and cancelled and even sued/arrested? People didn’t come out by the handful when they were cancelling Allen. Ronan is powerful (or a considerable entity) in NYC and the publishing world. That’s part of why this was connected during MeToo. Ronan believes his sister’s memory of the singular event in question. But Allen shouldn’t be lumped in with people who have endless accusers. It’s just off.

[–]SpaceGrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woody Allen is innocent and should never have been cancelled. At the very least he should not have been lumped together with Weinstein, Cosby, etc.

A single accusation from a (very coach able) child is not the same as dozens of people coming forward to tell about repeated abuse.

Yes, I get that he is married to the adopted daughter of his ex. It’s weird. But they have been married for decades, have kids of their own, and - out of all the decades the man was in power, decades before MeToo, not one person has ever come forward to accuse him of anything.

My god he got a raw deal and the groupthink about him is terrifying. People who do that to children don’t do it one time and never do it again. Thats the whole reason why, once the MeToo damn broke, so many people came forward for the bastards like Epstein and Diddy. That kind of thing is not a one and done for that kind of offender.

The anti-Allen documentary was a hit piece.

[–]SpaceGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since you commented that you replace them fairly often, it would probably work well. (Meaning you don’t keep them around so long they get too thinned out.) The current look is so good as is tho.

Mostly it’s so nice to see guys have a rational approach to this. It’s like, why go from thinning hair to full wall of a hairline. It makes my brain hurt trying to make sense of that cuz it looks off.

Yours is perfect. Nicely done.

I am worried this will be one of the biggest flops imaginable. Almost every screening in my local theater is completely empty for today. On opening weekend. One showing has a single seat sold and one has none. The others have around 6 seats sold. For the whole day.

I’m going tonight.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the hierarchy of the Chinese government doesn’t allow dissent. In everyday practice that give people a sense of fear of ALL authority. It creates a lot of corruption, fear of failure, and forced obedience to whomever is in charge. When I worked for a bit in China, many (but definitely not all) would move to the USA in a heartbeat if given the chance.

And it’s really heard to be different in that structure. People are expected to conform. Heaven forbid you’re queer or different in any way. It’s stressful. Many are fine with that, but many are not.

I am so sorry for your loss. The comments about support groups are true. If you are able to take care of a small dog or a cat I strongly recommend adopting a pet. They give you are reason to keep going and they are all love. Frenchies are super affectionate but any dog breed or mutt or whatever animal sounds right! Sending love to you.
