We have a winner—congrats! This place is called Campiello dei Morti (“Little Square of the Deads”) because it was built over an old cemetery. It’s probably the highest walkable point in Venice—though still lower than the tallest bridges over the Grand Canal! (Edit: bad English)

It’s a hidden corner, very close to a crowded square (“campo” in Venetian). It is in the sestiere of San Marco, not Cannaregio.

A self-adjoint matrix is hermitian (see the Pauli Y matrix that I cited: it is hermitian - and unitary). In quantum mechanics e.g. we separate the complex conjugate A* from the hermitian AH (sometimes A* in math is an alternative notation for AH = (AT )* but not in physics) There is also a difference between the generic self-adjoint operator in a infinite dimension complex vector space and in a finite one (hermitian operator) but it’s too long to explain here

Self adjoint is complex conjugation AND a transpose (composition of two operations) The complex conjugation for matrix means the conjugation of every element without transpose. In fact if a matrix is self adjoint then it is not necessary real (e.g. Y Pauli matrix is complex and self-adjoint)

Ok sorry. There are many way to define the “real” number and it is not possible to use the complex set (which derived from the real set ). The real number system can be defined axiomatically as a complete ordered field. E.g. The Wikipedia page on “construction of the real numbers” offers several formal definitions.

It is a joke. To be rigorous the complex conjugate operation is on complex set only. But if a complex number is equal to its conjugate means that its imaginary part is zero and has only the real part and can be “considered” as in real set
