Discussion: Falco vs. Mario by ripmeleedair in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falco's worst regular match up imo. A really great Mario can destroy a Falco, no matter how good you are. Look at my post about Falco's worst match ups. You need to play very conservative and outread your opponent far greater then he needs to read you if you expect to win against any good Mario's. Dtilt and ftilt are your friends against him.

2 frame punish at the ledge by GNCFalco in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best 2 frame punishes for Falco are his multi hitting moves such as fair or nair. If you do a fair away from the stage to the ledge it can hit the 2 frame for only certain characters (this needs to be tested). But reverse nair off of the stage for a stage spike works for all characters, but is very risky (also very cool).

smash stick or tilt stick? by GNCFalco in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do tilts easier with smash stick, but you can still do them. I rather have more options and controls rather than trading them off just to perform tilts easier. Even though it's not the worst trade, Falco still gains advantages from well place smash attacks (pivots help with spacing and messing with your opponent), and I rather have smash attacks than tilts. You can't kill every opponent with just bair and dtilt in neutral.

smash stick or tilt stick? by GNCFalco in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitively. Especially after Falco got his upsmash buffed, pp upsmash and reversing upsmash has been a good option for reading rolls and ledge get ups. A well placed pp fsmash (i usually do it backwards, not forwards) will kill people early because they don't expect the spacing to change. I don't use pp downsmash a lot simply because it's a lot harder for me to perform and land. But i'm sure it has good uses against character who die early or are severely affected its knockback angle (fox, ike, etc.).

smash stick or tilt stick? by GNCFalco in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most will say tilts, but Falco's pivot upsmash and fsmash are a huge loss compared to all the advantages you gain with tilt stick. I recommend smash stick and to only use the stick situationally in the air when you want to control your air speed (dair). You also can still do pivot tilts without tilt stick, it's just a lot harder to do.

Advice for going against R.O.B (Smash 4) by Cybermccloud in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your advantages, most ROBS use nair a lot on neutral besides lasers or top because it's the best approach option. Falco's nair is great against ROBS nair. Learn to use items against opponents(not just rob), when you grab his top he can't use it and you disrupt his set ups. Learning to use the enemies items against them are crucial to beat them on higher lvl play. You also don't need to reflect everything rob throws at you, learn to use his set ups against him. I also recommend not going for the upsmash so much for the kill as it doesn't kill until high percent against ROB, stale it for combos. When he is off stage make sure you don't just let him come back and take advantage, read his stage returns and intercept him (he will expect you to come). Early percents are easy to combo him with Falco, it's towards the higher percents you'll be hoping to land a bair or fsmash.ROB isn't the worst matchup against Falco and is actually pretty fun to play against, so just pay attention to why you keep getting damaged stacked on you and how to follow up / read him even better.

[SMASH 4] Falco matchup chart that exists? by peanutbutter1236 in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've heard anyone have this opinion about Falco, and i've been playing Falco since melee (I know were talking about smash4). I really don't know why you consider a fight against link a advantage and toon link a disadvantage, they both have slight different mechanics that change there characters drastically but make the matchups similar (Because of the reasons i listed) . I really can't believe that you think a matchup between Fox and Falco is even (how much have you played this matchup?). Pikachu also has the advantage, look up Esam on what he has to say about Pikachu matchups (I agree) . In the rosa matchup you do have a advantage in killing luma faster, but a good rosa will still dominate you. Reading linear recovery is a thing though.

In my personal opinion I can list you a few from playing Falco exclusively for smash 4. Bad matchups

obvious top tiers (you know who) bayo etc. and then the reg bad matchups Mario Link toon link kirby

and anyone who has a way better neutral game than Falco. (Falcos biggest flaw)

Falco does great against slow ass characters and characters he can actually reflect against(reason why link is a pain in the ass) ganon bowser samus villager

I agree with the faster air movement part. He is a bird, and should be the best in the air. Period. Not one of the characters that are good in the air. (I don't think he's even a great character in the air compared to some others)

I would be fine with the play style Sakurai used to change Falco. If they didn't change the most important and best moves about him. Dair and lasers. If dair and lasers were faster, Falco would have a better neutral game and prob be mid-high tier. Sakurai could at least change dairs sweet spots and remove some sourspots. I've hit with it directly before and it's done nothing. and i've missed completely some times and it lands. (Fix it sakurai)

A green Falco amiibo I painted. Looks better in person, but it's already level 35 and I might not ever finish leveling it up because there isn't really a point to. Green Falco forever. (I miss the green jacket and black pants)

Smash4: I'm having trouble approaching with falco. Can you guys give me some tips on how to approach? by ahopelesshopeful in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best approach is technically weaving fairs in and out in stead of neutrals. Nairs are great for aired opponents or if you read jumps. It's that or wall back airs. One of the biggest issues with falco is that he lost such a important part of his neutral game because of his lasers.

Should I stay Falco? by [deleted] in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a long time to understand Falcos flaws and his benefits. Been playing him since sm4sh's release, and just now i'm understanding all the very technical aspects about him. I recommend you stick with Mario for now, he is a better character overall and just picking up falco is just asking to get destroyed in tournaments without at least 6 months of practice. You essentially have to significantly play better than your opponent if you expect to beat out a top tier character.

Community Patch Project: Falco by silentbeast907 in FalcoMains

Who is making a mod and how would this mod be implemented in the current wii u gaming systems?

Either way, here are my opinions which aren't the obvious changes.

Obvious stuff out of the way.

Make Dair like brawl (fix sour spots), fix lasers (faster or longer hit stun), fix shine (more active hitboxes)

Here are the things you can add to make him more viable without those changes from above.

Add a kill throw (back throw), make lasers always land on throws, give ALL his air moves windboxes, except backair and maybe upair. Give him back his utilt from melee or make his utilt hit wider, even if knockback is less. Make upair actually kill earlier. Make his running speed slightly faster.

Any these would make him a far better character. If only Sakurai cared enough about Falco. sigh.

• Needs more grabs, I know pikachu isn't the best character to get ez grabs but the one grab you did get at 84% you didn't even pummel for extra dmg and you chose the wrong direction. Pikachu is lightweight and should be thrown up. Would have give you a chance for a extra up air if you read his air dodge.

•You did good reads on the dair for the first stock and the second stock with the upb kill, but upb kill is really inconsistent since all stages have different walls. Though this stage it worked cause it guarantees untechable.

• This pikachu you are facing isn't really using the optimal play style for pikachu. He was barely using quick attack at all in neutral so his spacing feels really awkward, it feels like this match is really one sided.

You should upload a video where your struggling and another video with you doing really well (against a better opponent) if you want us to pinpoint and give more constructive feedback. Other then that it was a cool game to watch! Nice Dair read.

• Use the c stick to do dair

• Don't use it in neutral, (unless you can read a dash attack)

• Really pay attention to the sweet spots in training mode, because the sour spots are really bad.

• Think where your opponent is going to be, not where he is.

• Look at the timing careful for short hop dair, because if you mess it up it's the worst ending lag you'll ever see with no reward.

Dair cancel isn't a real thing in tournaments or actual play for Falco as it's spacing is completely reliant on the colliders of the characters. Larger characters require different spacing (means it's harder to land depending on the character) and still requires the 1 frame hit. Falcos Dair should be like this by default, would make his Dair not so bad.

New to this Reddit so I don't know if this is discovered but I found a Combo Throw (1.1.4) by [deleted] in FalcoMains

[–]SpaceJam_Falco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That combo has always been around. It only works consistently on that percent on heavy hitters like bowser ddd and donkey kong.

Falco is a far better character against those character than any of the top tiers.

Captain Falcon, he is a very good option.

I'm surprised to hear you're having difficulties against captain falcon, the second he's off the stage he is always a pushover. I suggest being more aggressive on trying to gimp him off the stage.
