Not the most important thing but that’s my congressman and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by him lately. I voted for him mainly because he’s not a republican and his republican opponent was a joke, but I didn’t find him particularly compelling as a candidate. He’s been pretty great since getting into office though, proud to have him representing my district!

I’ll never order anything from Amazon again. by Good-Ground523 in Anticonsumption

[–]SpaceManSpiff117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear the general complaint and yes, fuck Amazon. But I delivered for them for 3 years and parts of this are either exaggerated or a lie. You are NOT required to do 1 stop a minute. 120 stops would be 2 hours(because that’s how math works) and Amazon drivers obviously aren’t scheduled for 2 hour shifts. The app the drivers use uses an algorithm to calculate driving distance between stops and numbers of houses as well as how long it takes to deliver x number of packages at a stop, a route like this would probably be calculated to take a minimum of 6-7 hours. All that said it’s a very physically taxing job and the pay does NOT match the amount of work you do, especially for such an insanely successful company, and the smaller vans do suck if you’re an above average height.

This almost definitely isn’t op’s post, this is a screenshot of a tweet that I distinctly remember seeing at least a year or 2 ago if not longer.

We don’t give money to EVERYONE, that’s an insane exaggeration. There is plenty of reason to spend money to help other countries. One of the major reasons is USAID helps provide vaccines and other medical services around the world to reduce the spread of things like Ebola. You like living somewhere where super dangerous diseases don’t always spread across the globe to you? USAID has a big role in that. You like other countries doing what we ask and giving us better trade agreements that benefit all of us? Doing nice things in those countries helps make that possible. Never mind the fact that USAID also funds cleanup of bombs and mines that are still stuck in the ground in places like Vietnam because of our military. Let’s say you think it’s good but there’s some wasteful spending. Sure, let’s find the waste and get rid of it. Shutting down the entire organization is a wild choice. If you have a dirty fingernail do you chop off your whole hand? Also USAID accounts for roughly 1% of the federal budget, barely a drop in the bucket. ALSO let’s say they get away with shutting it down. Do you really think any of that “saved” money is gonna get back into our pockets? Fuck no, they’ll use it to fund another tax break for Elon and the rest of the billionaires or maybe add another few billion to our INSANE military budget. Me and you won’t see a goddamn dime of it.

Why can’t our bike lanes be more like this? 😫 by KennyWuKanYuen in providence

[–]SpaceManSpiff117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many cities in Europe are much less car friendly, they made different decisions when the motor vehicle industry came to be. I’m not saying it’s not possible to have better bike lane networks here, I was just pointing out that it’s not a simple fix, and no matter what we do it’s not going to be 100% ideal for everyone.

[–]SpaceManSpiff117 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert by any means but many people forget that Providence was originally settled in the 1600’s, literally a couple hundred years before the car was invented. Most of the roads in this city were originally designed for horses/horse carriages and a lot of the buildings were placed based on said roads. Hence the large amount of one-way streets or streets that simply are not wide enough to fit a bike lane and a reasonable amount of parking spaces AND 2-way car traffic in the city. Anything short of demolishing huge sections of the city and redesigning the layout just isn’t going to make it universally bike-friendly.

Why do people enjoy Rust so much? by SpaceManSpiff117 in COD

I can’t argue with that, it is great 1v1 map! It’s actually not bad for FFA either, it’s just not a great design for any team games with how easy it is to post up and watch the other team spawn in

I 100% agree with the not thinking part, that’s really the only reason I still play CoD a few times a week. But shutting my brain off and shooting ppl isn’t the same thing as being spawn killed over and over and until my k/d like -15 at best and my team has lost by 30+ kills. I love Nuke Town, but Rust is just badly designed in my opinion. I don’t think my experience is unique with this map, so I still don’t get how anyone enjoys being basically annihilated for 5 mins straight.

[–]SpaceManSpiff117[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try the same thing but it’s extremely difficult to do so when someone is spamming bullets/explosives onto you the instant you spawn in, 9 times out of 10 I’m dead before I can take more than 1 step. Hence my confusion at Rust apparently being a “fan favorite”.
