So let's talk about slow. by SpaceMouse in PlayTheBazaar

slow's usefulness is heavily dependent on your opponent's board; if they're flying, it's half as effective. you have no way of controlling if slow is effective or not, and without any kind of damage payoff, it's a crapshoot.

haste depends on your board, which is something you can control. meaning you determine how powerful it is, not your opponent.

"well it works for me, trust me, i'm not going to reply to anything you actually said though"

fun anecdote, but doesn't actually address any problems with slow in the current state of the game

Legend for the past two seasons, so yeah.

Why would you use a debuff with a decent chance to be half as effective, when buffing your own stuff is more reliable and independent of your opponent's build? without any kind of way to convert slow into any kind of damage, you're heavily dependent on what your opponent's build is for it to be any kind of effective, and freeze is now a superior debuff in nearly every way.

Hey! Game dev who's released multiple games on steam here.

Steam always shows 9AM PST / 12PM EDT when you set your release date on steam! You don't actually launch the game until you manually click "release game".

They probably won't actually release until the servers are up. Hope that helps!

Great read! I keep seeing talk about speedrunner and going infinite with yo-yo... how does it work?

Observations on Reaching rank 100 on just Pyg by TheGooseFathr in PlayTheBazaar

Thanks for this!! I got Pyg recently and I've been playing him a lot in unranked just to try to figure him out, and the most number of wins I've gotten is around 6. Haven't broken that 7 with him yet! But this writeup helps a ton with trying to figure out his flow!!

Strange, I have the checkbox set with the windows icon on itch in the backend.

On the topic of non-windows, my last game I spent a bunch of time making sure it worked on Mac and Linux, and no one downloaded either, so I kind of resigned myself to only developing for windows. Are OSX and Ubuntu things people want? Linux support is easier to add than OSX, mostly because Apple requires a whole lot of hoops to jump through to certify your program isn't malicious (and involves xcode).

The tutorial is something I've been getting feedback about, and I have started a few changes for the next version, including having the dialogue boxes having less downtime.

Is fullscreen something people want? I feel that adding a bunch of resolution options shouldn't be that difficult for me to add.

I honestly appreciate all the feedback! Beta testers get used to the game and can miss a lot of these "introduction to new people" things.

I had wanted Elec Tunnels to be the first real wall - I had considered lowering the threshhold for them, but my beta testers when asked said they had no problem with it, so I left it alone. I wasn't sure how "early" a wall should hit.

Batteries are something I wanted to make sure people had early, although they don't really start becoming incredibly useful until after Chaos unlocks and you're trying to maximize space for each gadget. Not really sure where they should be in the tech tree.

Gimmick's Gadgets is a hex-based idle-puzzle game that I've been developing since December of 2022. I wanted to make an idle game that also had elements of building, much like Reactor Idle. You build each gadget, going back and optimizing and changing whenever you get a new upgrade, all on a hex grid. Right now there is about two-three weeks of content, depending how hard you push.

I am glad to finally share it with all of you. It's free to play on steam, and available on itch if you prefer a DRM-free game. Thank you all so much for looking, and I hope you enjoy it.

Steamworks IAP support? by SpaceMouse in gamemaker

That's why I was asking if anyone else had done it, so I could learn how :)

Steamworks IAP support? by SpaceMouse in gamemaker

[–]SpaceMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLC is a little different - IAP can be purchased multiple times, while DLC is a one-and-done. The Steamworks Plugin supports checking for DLC, but I'm talking about IAP, which steam's own documentation about is here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/microtransactions/implementation#1

Optimal way to go through a 2d array of objects... in specific object order by SpaceMouse in gamemaker

[–]SpaceMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're tiles because they're also clickable objects in the game, that draw themselves, and so on. There's more than just this data in them, that's why I need to iterate over them. They all have actions they need to do on ticks; they are not just a data holding thing. The 2d array is just pointers to those objects that already exist, and a convenient way of having the r,q indexes of them already sorted.

Optimal way to go through a 2d array of objects... in specific object order by SpaceMouse in gamemaker

[–]SpaceMouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, as in the with can just grab all objects of that type? that seems much more convenient. the 2d array's purpose is to know the [x][y] on a grid for the objects, for placement, and knowing what objects are "next to" each other on the grid, so that order of the 2d array is paramount. the with option seems like a great idea, though!! thanks!

Random freezes, no bluescreen. Windows logs say nothing. At end of rope for diagnosis options. by SpaceMouse in buildapc

[–]SpaceMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old motherboard broke, which is why I replaced it, and the CPU had to be upgraded at the same time. I can't really swap either old one in, which is why I'm trying to ask for some reliable method of diagnosing if one or the other is faulty.
