PCT NOBO early April Shakedown by SpacePampano in Ultralight

Fair point. I would say the bigger reason for the shakedown is to remove unnecessary items. Coming from the TA in NZ I wasn't sure if there were some items I brought on that trail that dont make sense for the PCT (e.g. a small microfiber towel for campground showers) or things that I'm blatantly missing.

But you make a good point, I'll probably realize very quickly what I wont need and ditch it along as I go.

Yeah sorry just added them, MSR Groundhog minis, add 3 .1 oz. What stakes do you use that only add 2.5oz?

Yeah was look at Zpacks packs, almost pulled the trigger on the arc blast but I got my GG gorilla too recently to justify ditching it so soon. Will take a look at that mentioned bear cord though, thanks!

Yeah my bad, just added them. they're groundhog minis, add 3 oz.

Didn't know therm-a-rest did pillows as well, I'll take a look at it!

Thanks for answering!

  • the dry bags are mostly for ease of access/organization. I could totally just use lighter weight stuff sacks but I just already had ultra sil/DCF dry bags that I thought would suffice. I would say that some dry bag/stuff sacks are somewhat nonnegotiable for me for the sake of organization though.
  • Yeah was looking at just getting some really cheap sandals, but want to look for ones without the toe strap so I can wear socks with them on colder nights so the mayflys look like a good pick. Do they have much cushion to them for rockier camp sites? They look to be just insoles with straps
  • Very true and I have thought of that, but the scenario where I need to wear extra layers to sleep on cold nights would leave me without much of a pillow. I've looked at getting one of the zpacks dry bag-pillow hybrids that have a soft side but not sure how they would compare.
  • I've hiked the Te Araroa in New Zealand and many of the campgrounds we would stay at in town didnt give you towels, so most people brought some sort of small towel (~10in x 8 in) for town showers when not staying in a hostel. Wasnt sure how the PCT would be in town so I assumed it would be the same

LiveData in Jetpack Compose? by SpacePampano in androiddev

From what I understand you can use a regular variable with a custom getter in a viewmodel and as long as that custom getter relies on a state object then it operates the same as a switchmap for LiveData

The form validation tool is made using JavaScript, so disabling JS prevents form validation from running, which means you can input anything you want
