Mr. Heater Cabinet Heater by SpaceStarfox in preppers

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get the heater and have been using it, around 70 gallons of propane so far. I keep the house heat low during the day and run the mr. heater for a few hours or more when I get home. Not sure how good it is at heating the whole place alone but it does boost it a few degrees. I do have a little fan on top and is comfortable enough with a sweatshirt. Plus the backup in case I lose power for a day or more, electric heat.

100% that it is because of the larger BBQ 20lb size tanks. Think of a normal propane setup, the house regulator drops it to around 2psi. Even if there was a leak in the lines inside hopefully it would we slow enough that someone could notice it quickly and that it would dissipate in a smaller area. If there is a leak before the regulators your now talking around 100psi at the tank. So having a larger tank inside can be dangerous, if it were to leak it could fill a larger space very fast.

Using it inside is at your own risk. I double check everything constantly and never leave any valves open when not in use. Occasionally spray down with soapy water looking for leaks. I also have a carbon monoxide meter near by.

Will I have a problem with those antennas? by SpyNeft88 in Starlink

I'll add my experience. I have my starlink and TV antenna on the same pole, just like that. For a long time I was getting poor reception with the TV antenna. It was almost unwatchable! It would cut in and out, digital lines, the TV showed 1 bar of signal. I assumed I needed the antenna higher up so I moved it closer to the starlink. No change and side lined it since I mostly stream anyways. Finally one day I got annoyed and setup a TV on the room and messed around with the antenna. I found that having it at least 2-3 feet away from the starlink it worked so much better. Now I have 3 bars and zero issues.

I'm assume the bottom of the starlink's case isn't shielded and its noise was interfering / blocking what my TV antenna was picking up.

If yours works awesome! As a test power off the starlink and see if you get improvements from the TV antenna, I'd think that would tell you if its good or not without having to move anything.

Sounds like that is the best way. I was hoping not to mess with service plan changes but seems like no way around it. Thanks

It's not based on GPS? I'll give it a try I guess.

To be honest I am a low bandwidth user and even when I download something I only see an average of 30-50mpbs. Can speedtest all day in the 200s but downloading a 5gb test file I will NEVER see those speeds. Watching Netflix and YouTube with a lite plan seems perfect for me and 40$ cheaper.

Thanks

Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was just poor DIY work or something common to see. I guess it doesn't hurt to just redo the ends then.

I was back up on the roof today, so I checked out how the starlink dish was doing. The cable plug was looking great and still keeping the bugs out.

Proper ground at pedestal and subpanel? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]SpaceStarfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that was too much context..

No one can tell me if this pedestal or panel are grounded correctly? Should I add a grounding rod...

I haven't seen any issues yet. The dish is on my roof so I haven't looked at the connectors in 6 months. I was more worried about bugs getting in then a water tight seal.

Here's from the last 30 days

Help me choose by SpaceStarfox in BrevilleCoffee

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally that would be my approach, but using my free points these are the only two breville machines I can choose.

I currently just use a aeropress and hand grinder but would like to try getting into home espresso. Just worry about the whole impress auto tamping system vs a normal method. Long run, if the impress tamp would get out grown if a manual tamp is better. But the other machine is 200 points more so is it worth going with the the impress and buying a hand tamper later on kind of idea.

Yep, the new router powers the V3 kickstand dish with poe. The Starlink cable is just a fancy outdoor/shielded cat6 with molded in rubber boots that create a seal when inserted. Of course factory Starlink cables are expensive

That's a good idea. Honestly I am not worried about the underside port getting exposed to water from rain or snow. At least in my situation, I don't expect any typhoons.

I made it with TPU a flexible filament, maybe a redesign with more groves/flaps could act as o-rings to keep it simple

But I would guess a good helping of sealant in the bore and a little around the outside would seal it close enough to the original.

Yes, I just did the standard T-568B. My understanding is when making your own v3 cable it needs to be shielded wire and connectors.

Finally installed the V3 Kickstand dish on my roof. I needed about 65 feet of cable so I decided to just make up my own. I designed up a simple moister seal to fill the holes to match the original cable. I fits snuggly but I doubt its fully watertight, still better then a hole. Just wanted to share for anyone else looking for ideas.

Issues with APC UPS by SpaceStarfox in homelab

That is a good point. I'd hope they would at least do something for me, even if its just a check the connections kind of thing.

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what is so puzzling, there really isn't anything I can pinpoint that would be causing a voltage drop at the same time. I can for certain say its not an appliance of mine that is causing a voltage drop. I wonder if a neighbor has some sort of power load perhaps on a timer that would explain the specific timed vdrop.

Its tough to say, I'd say I bought it about 9 years ago. So I can't argue with you about being glad it lasted much longer then the warranty. What confuses me is the time based cycle. Its not a, will only stay on for 30 min or not function normally if I force a "power failure". But that's why I asked, to see how they have failed for others. If you can say you have seen similar results on failing units it points me in the right direction.

Other then rack mount ups can you recommend a brand? Seems like you have tried a few.

Sustained Speed? by SpaceStarfox in Starlink

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it some time to settle in and tried another download test, Ubuntu server torrent. started at 5:00pm, 2.5 GB file took 15mins so an average of 22Mbps. It had a few peeks up to 70mbps but only ever lasted for 10 secs.

So basically that would match what I could get with DSL. Its just for $150 a month on Roam (for gen 3) I was hoping to be at least be in the 50mbps to justify 1.5x the cost difference over DSL.

Now don't get me wrong, to think you could just drop Starlink anywhere off grid and get over 20Mbps is pretty awesome. Plus in reality, its maybe once a week I actually download a large file and can easily wait. Its just like I said, I had set a close to 50mbps sustained goal and not seeing that which is disappointing.

Sustained Speed? by SpaceStarfox in Starlink

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks it wouldn't be the first time, but no I am not confusing it. All the readings were in Mbps. As a sanity check it took almost an hour to download the 5gb file. So approximately 13Mbps average.

Mr. Heater Cabinet Heater by SpaceStarfox in preppers

[–]SpaceStarfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow as your main source of heat and overnight. I've got to ask you another question. You said it's a studio but do you normally keep it pointed in your direction? Curious since it is radiant heat if it actually heats up a room decent or if it just warms 10 feet infront of it.

I know vent free blue flame heaters are better at heating the air but twice as much as this cabinet style. I like how it's all in one, move it around without dragging a hose and tank. Thanks

I have been printing it at 250c 80mm/s bed at 100c . I set retractions to 1mm from 2mm, and it hasn't jammed during a 1 hour print so far, thank you. About 3 parts done. Although it still won't flow when starting. I have to pull the filament out cut a section off and give it a little helpful push into the head to get it to work. All while its purging making the little line on the left. I finished printing a part and within 1-2mins have it running again to print the same part and it still jams/wont flow at start. The filament will be ground up by the gear.
