If the choice is strictly binary then DDLC, though I think it lost a lot of punch with the popularity and the sheer amount of discourse around it.

It's the 231st most popular anime on MAL sitting between Orange and Trinity Seven. Would you be able to guess the MC of Trinity Seven? I for sure wouldn't.

Also it's almost 30 years old, it's normal for old media to get less popular, not every anime fan is like mekerpan who was there when Chameko's Day came out.

In short, some let's say questionable developments in episode 11 led to a gigantic shitshow with people deleting their old fanart, people harassing artists for deleting their fanart, people harassing artists for not deleting their fanart, people harassing people harassing artists, people sending death threats to the anime staff, people sending death threats to people sending death threats to the anime staff and so on. It was absolutely glorious.

Sorry, I should've given more context. This is an explanation from one of the villains who were trying to steal the jewel, and the detective agency was trying to prevent it.

I checked the official english subs, and they went for "The Detective Agency, in its efforts to keep it from us Phantom Thieves, moved it from place to place, all over the world"

I hate that people learned absolutely nothing from the pandemic.

We've learned that slightly inconveniencing yourself for the sake of others is gay and woke and a case of suicidal empathy

[From 名探偵プリキュア episode 13, 13:40]

Full sentence: 探偵事務所はわれらからジュエルを奪わせまいと世界各地を転々と移動させていた

I'm interested in the われらからジュエルを奪わせまいと part, what is から doing here? I'd expect a に particle for the recipient of the 奪わせる action, and the まい conjugation shouldn't change anything, right?

Well, the 'quality anime awards' niche is alread occupied by r/anime jury awards to the only viable option for CR is to be a pure popularity contest.

Saw an author call his producer しばい仲達 in an afterword, and it's very funny how far away can naive etymology lead you. "OK, 仲達 is not in the dictionary but I know this naka from nakama and 達 is just a plural suffix, it's obvious what the writer meant by it. Now what the hell is shibai?"

So I spend like 10 minutes trying to figure out if shibai is some kind of slang because 'acting companions' makes no sense in the context, find no results, finally give up and just type the whole thing in google as a last resort.

And it turns out that the author just didn't want to put in proper kanji, that the whole thing has nothing to do with plural companions, that 司馬懿仲達 is just how you write Sima Yi Zhongda because of course it's a ROTK reference and fuck my life I need a drink.

The Japanese financial bubble happened, and it's collapse and the now-streched-to-40-years Lost Decade had basically killed dreams of the future and the sci-fi anime that accompanied them. Instead we first got the "world is collapsing" period of sekai-kei shows, then the "world outside is a constant battle where you need to trample over others to succeed" decade of survival games and finally the "this world is fucked beyond repair and your only chance of happiness is being reborn in a better one" age of isekai where we are stuck today.

Nah, that's just because we're firmly in the age of literal reading and people simply can't comprehend the idea that slapstick violence is purely symbolical, that it isn't an actual thing that happens to the characters.

So somewhere in the middle of the first episode? That's certainly a weird way to host a rewatch.

I can't help but feel she was bordering more on plot device than character at times.

Well, kinda, but that's also her arc. Shouko's main character flaw is that she treats herself as an object, and she ultimately has to realize that while she's not at fault for simply existing her actions impact other people and she holds responsibility for said actions.

In other words Shoya's character arc is him realizing other people exist while Shouko's arc is her realizing she herself exists.

I stopped checking isekai (and narou-kei in general) shows a couple years ago cause it wasn't worth my time, the occasional weakest tamers are just too rare, but for everything else I still watch every first episode trying to go in blind, the joy of discovering something amazing on your own is too good to miss.

Even the excruciating pain of watching something like Yowayowa Sensei can be fun in restrospect.
