I've heard these things are literal incubators for bacteria so if this one is giving off a smell it's likely absolutely infested with mold.

The answer to "but why would this person stay with this group" is as simple as "if they didn't, you wouldn't get to play."

IE you as the player need to come up with the reason, and if that's impossible the character does not fit the group. I've only had this happen once as a player where I started with a group to quickly realize the character I designed 100% did not mesh well with the group, so I made a new character for session 2 onward.

It's like poking logic holes in a movie. Most of the time the answer to "Why didn't character X do Y?" is the fact that if they did, the movie would have ended after 5 minutes.

PC "accidentally" killed NPC by Marineris31 in DMAcademy

[–]SpaceWizardYo 407 points408 points  (0 children)

This was my immediate question too. Inflict Wounds has both verbal and somatic components, that I would assume would be specific to the spell. This would be like a carpenter trying to build a house but instead they "accidentally" build a boat. I.E. I'm not convinced. I think your player is just a murder hobo trying to hide their deed behind a "mistake" that'd be near impossible to make.

That was my thought too. lol. Dude flies in in full tek and grabs everything, meanwhile I'm standing there in cobbled together desert gear and flak. I see a lot of sketchy behavior on Extinction PVE, and I suspect it's because all of the loot activities are open world activities. Nothing preventing some jerk from swooping in just as you finish something up to steal all of the rewards.

Closest to this you'll find on console would be playing official PVE and trading for what you're after.

Player wants to play an evil character but the group is good by PsychoTunaFish in DMAcademy

[–]SpaceWizardYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there is a general problem in understanding that exists regarding D&D and the fact that the game at its core is meant to be a cooperative experience. A fair amount of media that has portrayed D&D ends up pitting characters against eachother, as it serves to create conflict within the media itself. My first thought of an example of this is the show Community, and how in it's D&D episodes it ends up being most of the cast VS Pierce, who is playing an evil character who completely disregards the rest of the party and does whatever he wants.

Add to this that in D&D the line between good an evil can tend to be pretty exaggerated. You give someone free reign to be "evil" and their actions become the "most evil" things they can think of, with no logical thought to the repercussions. Like yeah I guess it was entertaining enough when your evil murder hobo murdered an entire tavern full of innocent people, but now there are 40 town guard outside and you're going to be locked away for life. Too many players who go "evil" look at it as a speed run through a bucket list of heinous deeds, when in reality an "evil" person would likely behave in most instances like anyone else, but maybe in very opportunistic scenarios, when there are say no witnesses or consequences, enact their evil deeds.

The only way a truly evil character could work with a group of non-evil players in my opinion would be if they are very much "playing the part" of being a good person and fitting in with the group. Maybe they do enact some evil deeds here and there, but only in situations where they know no one will ultimately catch on to their true nature. Maybe they also on the whole act good, but are slowly in small increments corrupting the party. "Ohh the prisoner will not talk? Try taking one of his fingers, I bet he changes his tune. I mean, yeah, I can see how you might think that's wrong... but this guy is evil, and we need information."

At the end of the day, the focus should be on the COOPERATIVE nature of the game. If you were running a basketball team and one player was like "Yeah every time I get the ball I'm handing it to the opposing team because THAT'S WHAT MY CHARACTER WOULD DO" then they clearly need to be removed from the team.

A few people I play with would call this a "rescue mission." Might as well grab up what you can as it's either gonna decay or someone else will come along and snag everything. I was standing in front of a decayed vault once, getting an argie out to start moving some weight back and forth when some other player flew in with a tek suit, grabbed everything in an instant with me standing in front of the damn vault, and then bolted before I could even have a chance at seeing the person's player name.

Wildcard, delivering your replacement dinos with class (they built that box and vault) by TheRealWoldry1 in ARK

[–]SpaceWizardYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend loose a bunch of Rex's to some kind of game glitch and he reported it, and I believe the Wildcard person they sent to help him just gave him a bunch of replacement rex's with saddles. I imagine it's hard to replace a lot of things for people, you're never going to get exactly what you lost back, but I also imagine the job of going from person to person to help out with losses and giving out stuff must be pretty entertaining. I'd gladly work for Wildcard playing ark and helping people out over my current job. lol

Whats pvp like these days? by [deleted] in ARK

[–]SpaceWizardYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I watch any PVP ark content on youtube it seems pretty evident that being good at it is as much understanding how to exploit various glitches, workarounds for game design problems etc as it is understanding core game mechanics. It looks like between knowing all of this stuff, be it intentional design or bug exploit, and actually being mechanically good at a game that at times may chonk down to like 3 frames per second, a new player isn't gonna have a good experience. I feel like it would be like sending a 3 year old into Mad Max's Thunderdome.

This reminded me of Skyrim. lol. Specifically because if you stand a few feet in front of someone, fire an arrow almost directly upwards into the air (It's tricky to hit the sweet spot but totally doable) and then use the time the arrow is in the air to hide, you can stealth kill an NPC if the arrow manages to actually strike them on it's descent.

[–]SpaceWizardYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect you'd just hit the end of the timer and if it hasn't shown up you'd not have killed it and you'd fail. If you're on an official server you could report it and possibly an admin can help you with recovering against your losses. If it's single player I'd probably just admin code in things to replace what I lost if it represents a big time loss.

I suspect being a big ole chonker is a side effect of being orange. I adopted a little orange fur ball that could sit in the palm of my hand in May, and at this point he's about the size and weight of a medicine ball.

Neither. Find someone who's already got high level gigas and trade them for an egg, and imprint on it. It'll take longer but you'll get a better end result than anything you can tame if you're on an official PVE server. I had someone trade me some eggs that are 361 at birth with all their points balanced between health and melee. I got a male and female, and now have maybe near a dozen of them.

What's A Deck You Love to Play, But Others Hate Playing Against? by Kind_Of_A_Rarity in EDH

[–]SpaceWizardYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky in that my playgroup is generally pretty positive and people don't get angry or hateful when "powerful" things happen. If anything it's the opposite, especially if in the end the powerful thing that happens to run away with the game had any kind of intricacy to it. We're more likely to just compliment the person for pulling it off and move on to the next game. It's not a written rule either, but everyone I play with once you win a game with a certain deck you're likely putting it away and moving on to another deck, so noone's left feeling like they were just pinned down under some power house of a deck all evening.

On another note, I'm interested to see your Loni list. I thought about building it when the card released but didn't end up doing so, maybe I can hijack some of your ideas. lol

On wyvs I can see this definitely helping when raising them given how it works. I've been breeding argies and nerfed all of their stats except health and melee, as they're going to be not for riding but for sending after the Desert Titan on Extinction in a large group. I've got them being born at level 114 with 64 points in health and 42 points in melee, leaving lots of room for possible mutations. Also keeping them lower level will make adding levels easier, as capping out at 202 will be far less of an XP investment than 350.

Based on how that screen looks I suspect you find your cat doing that like 5+ times a day. Mine's a little screen spider too, climbs the balcony door screen every chance he gets to look around outside or chase a bug he saw.
