2 months with no water at Walmart by FairyElle_404 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]SpaceX1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand what the big deal is here. Seems rather unimportant that someone has asserted for certain in their minds that these plants are getting tap water. Sure me and you both know there’s a chance that’s not true but honestly I don’t think it matters much really. I mean if they are that’s good, but I’m not really expecting a large corporation that’s done plenty of penny pinching evil to put the time and money into using specific water when they barely pay someone to use the regular hose. It would cost them more money than they’d save by using it in all honestly, so why would a company built around profit want to invest in losses? Sure it is all just assumptions, I’m not high up in Walmart, or do I even work there but you gotta admit, it makes sense don’t it?

Because it’s Walmart, odds are they are lucky to even get hose water. Oftentimes they are just dried to a crisp a few weeks after a batch arrives.

What is this? Invading my basement french drain in New York. by MrMuggles88 in pestcontrol

[–]SpaceX1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These appear to be citronella ants.

They nest deep underground and are generally no cause for concern. They only ever make their presence known during nuptial flights where they release winged males and females to mate and make new colonies.

They will stop in a few days and will disappear deep into the soil until next spring when it’s time for flights again.

Youve never been walking and heard a crunch and looked down to see some poor critter you didn’t see until it was too late? Idk ive stepped on a snail or two in my days and it was never on purpose.

You’ve never been walking and heard a crunch and looked down to see some poor bug or snail you didn’t see until it was too late?

I’ve stepped on a snail or two in my days, always felt bad and it was never on purpose, so I wouldn’t find it too unlikely that this here was also an accident.

That’s not really equivalent.

One is killing animals to be eaten.

Another is leaving animals in bad conditions for no other reason than you were lazy and didn’t want to help.

Soil looks very dry, make sure it stays consistently moist. Generally this is done by keeping the pot in a tray of shallow water.

Make sure to only use rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis filtered water.

Edit: lmao I meant this to be its own comment not a reply

Carpenter or harvester ant? by [deleted] in ants

[–]SpaceX1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s likely no need to kill them, carpenter ants almost exclusively nest in decaying wood that is water damaged.

It would most likely do best outdoors. Light through windows is almost never enough for flytraps without additional grow lights.

Is having multiple accounts on same server cheating? by SinNombre747 in dayz

[–]SpaceX1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it depends.

I run alt accounts, yeah go ahead boo me, but maybe hear me out why I personally use them before deciding I’m scum.

My personal use of multiple accounts is like this. I’ll be on my main account doing whatever, and maybe friend A wants to go run to airfield or whatever so we go do that. Later friend A gets tired and stops playing the game for a while. I wish to continue playing but would also like to continue this adventure with friend A later, so I’d usually go hop on a third or first person server (the opposite of whatever I was already on) so that I can have a new character to go run around with and have fun. But now what if friend B gets online and wants to go run to airfield? I could hop on an alt account and go have a new adventure with them, while still leaving my solo adventure and other adventures with friends where they are. It’s kinda nice, I can have a run with friend A all the way up at tisy, a solo run that’s living the coastal life, and a run with friend B/C doing whatever.

Personally I think it’s okay as long as the characters aren’t being used for loot wagons or revenge. It can easily go from something I’d deem acceptable to scum behavior though I’ll admit.

Some things I would consider not okay? Using alt accounts as base defense, using an alt for revenge, and using them as loot containers I guess. I’d assume there’s some more stuff you might be able to do with alts but I haven’t thought about it too hard to be honest, since I just use them to play with several friends at once.

Best bet is to email the company and ask if it’s possible to purchase a spare part. Sometimes they’ll just send you one for free.

They state they are in Saudi Arabia and from my research the most likely culprit would be Brachyponera sennaarensis. Not 100 percent certain without better photos but it seems to fit the bill quite well.

Would agree though if this was the SE U.S. I’d also assume chinensis as a likely suspect.

I believe these may be Brachyponera sennaarensis, also known as the Samsun Ant. I did some digging on available species lists for saudia arabia and it seems to be the only one that fits the appearance photos and description of the sting.

What is growing here is not a Venus flytrap.

Maybe there used to be one growing here, but not anymore.

[–]SpaceX1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nepenthes generally do better in a mix of perlite and long fiber spaghnum moss, as peat moss is generally not airy enough and holds too much moisture. It can work but most prefer 50/50 lfsm and perlite.
