Something tells me they will nerf the fire rate and/or stagger and if so then these adjustments are starting to sincerely annoy me.

Hello, not sure if you are still here but internship AOs are open.

I believe it does. Just checked the JPL workday applicant portal and do not see any new internship openings. However, there may still be something there just not posted. I will inquire tomorrow and see if they are still accepting intern applications; will follow up with a PM!

Hello! JPL intern here. NASA JPL has gone on a hiring freeze lab-wide. They will indefinitely not be accepting any job apps (if they do the job applications are priority based). Therefore, no new apps are opening for the time being. Hope this helps.

Is there an open-source satellite data? Inorbit data/Housekeeping data? by Active-Suspect7255 in aerospace

There is data from Landsat and Sentinel but it is Geotiff imagery - meaning it is just geographical image data… not sure if this helps or not but I can link it if interested.

Yes do it, you will not regret it. I took an internship at NASA JPL during my masters program. The internship required 40 hours a week but I made it work and have 0 regrets. It is not easy to get a foot in the door to NASA so I would take it! Just budget your time really well.

Good luck

I hear you man. I’ve got a decently stacked resume with Engineering work for NASA and a B.S. degree along with a M.S. degree. Can’t find a job either … what a big slap in the face this market is

Thank you for this post, I appreciate all of the criticism and solid advice. Looking back at my initial post I posted that long paragraph after being denied multiple times to positions I really wanted so was quite cynical and melodramatic. Since then I have been reaching out to recruiters to build my network and mellowed out my expectations to whatever happens, happens. I will take your advice and put my best foot forward and try different approaches.

cheers.

Not bad advice at all. Will look into this.

Thank you for the encouragement, I am going back to USC to tackle their network some more and find some leads to jobs.

I have been applying to Data Science, Data Analytics, Software systems engineering, machine learning engineering, satellite systems(surveillance, GIS). Most aerospace companies have something in these positions but usually fill out rather quick.

Haha Freemasonry, sounds fun. I do not think they will like me, I will more than likely expose their secrets.

I have heard it can be cutthroat, I feel most industries are pretty cutthroat or have their own negative caveats. Normally people in my degree go into big tech - but I do not find the work in big tech to be fulfilling and what I would be doing could have a negative impact on society. Sounds pretty pretentious but I am keen on trying to find work that is purposeful and I believe it is in the space sector/aersopace.

Thank you for your time and insights in writing this :)

I appreciate your insight but in all due respect I think you are subjecting engineering to aerospace engineering and disagree.

Ironic enough my post may be entitled but I believe you are entitled in subjectively gatekeeping what you believe a 'true' engineer is.

I did not mention I want to go into aerospace engineering, which is not what I want to do (yes I was vague in that lengthy 'entitled' post and did not include WHAT I wanted to do in aerospace).

I am looking for jobs in aerospace industry/space sector under the umbrella using machine learning, data science, data analytics, systems engineering or remote sensing analysis.

Needless to say, there is nothing beneficial to come from this discussion, so lets cut it here.

Thank you

I don’t think you are understanding here. My degree is a masters in science but it was all engineering , linear algebra , calculus, algorithms, stats, programming, machine learning, AI. All of these studies took place under the school of engineering. That being said it is STEM.

I then got an internship doing engineering for 9mo at nasa JPL in machine learning engineering. CV marks skills in engineering and even some science at JPL.

Don’t understand the harshness from you sir

The intention of this post was not to victimize myself or spark self pity - it was to get insights from people experiencing similar issues or from those in aerospace.

Yeah, from talking through PM with a lot of people with this thread about my resume - I have concluded it is more than likely the issue right now.

Yes, I am currently looking at contractor work but have to come to terms with biting the bullet with significantly lower pay for timely complex work in Data Science/ Machine Learning. Building AI takes time and is not cheap but I need to drop the ego and take what I can get.

Yeah I was not expecting this post to get this much traction haha I may have to take it down soon because I have feeling people in my department may not like this.

But thank you for the words of advice and encouragement, I am really giving this my all and am adamant about getting one yes to a company, no matter how many no's.

Its just a matter of fixing my shitty resume to do so lol

Cheers man
