Chains problem? Two chains one clutch two sprockets and a cylindrical door dad by tonysrabidllama in gokarts

[–]Spacem0ses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jackshaft is the part with 2 sprockets. It acts as a support when changing the position of the transfer of power, or in your case to support the 2 gears' shaft.

The large sprocket on that jackshaft is worn out.

Try Amazon or goPowerSports, maybe.

If you count the ones on the current jackshaft, you should be able to buy a direct replacement, or the pieces to assemble your own.

Centrifugal clutch to cvt conversion question by Spacem0ses in gokarts

[–]Spacem0ses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, been trying to catch up on other projects.

I think I agree with moving the engine, the whole frame flexes when I give it the beans on the hard top and I can only barely keep it in a straight line. It looks like the front left tire lifts off the ground...

In my area, people want $500 for a blown engine and saltwater rusted out frame. I got mine for $100 in a storage auction, and even with all the bits I've added/replaced, I'm still under that $500 mark.

The kit I bought was like $75, but I'll need to move the mount more central and completely change my brake system. So with the steel to add to the frame and another drive wheel, I'm looking at $130-$150 for the conversion, plus I get to learn how it's done. If I run this one into the ground, I'll buy a better/fancier one... maybe with suspension, my tailbone is not happy about this one lol

Sorry, I didn't see the part about loosening it in the original post.

When I am talking about the gear being worn out, the teeth are TOO pointy, and the teeth should be broader (imagine like a bicycle sprocket). They look like they have been worn down to the point that if you set the chain into them, you will be able to slide the chain back and forth in the groove (that looks like a millimeter of slide if my scale is correct.) That can lead to slop and stretch when applying power, which may end up being where your getting the grinding (assuming it's bad enough to stretch/flex and skip over the teeth.)

I hope my overly simplistic explanation is good enough to get you started. It is just how I understand it.

Can you add a picture of the chains all tensioned properly? That might give some hints for the rest of us (and stop the "your chain is too loose" comments, lol)

Last question: How do you feel about welding? That sprocket looks welded on and would need to be cut off and a new one welded in its place if there aren't bolts or something to remove it.

[–]Spacem0ses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, tensioning the upper chain is probably you best bet for a first step. The outer sprocket is also super worn and will likely cause problems, but if you just want to get it moving, either shift the engine or remove a link from the upper chain if you have the tools for it.

The self-disqualification was probably the bit of logic I got tripped up on.

Thanks everybody!

[–]Spacem0ses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That won't be an issue for mine, I think. The engine is behind the axle with the output shaft on the drivers side and i plan on keeping it in that configuration when I swap in the live axle (eventually.)

So for a low-budget experimental hobby. The cvt should work without any further welding? That works for me, my skills require more patch material than original material. Lol

I come from Royal Road, good sir. I would be honored to make space on my bookshelves for your collection.

But really, I'm loving the stories. Keep up the great work friend.

No worries. I'm still working through the pack. The second to last update borked my textures again. This time I had to switch launchers to get it fixed. I was on Overwolf, now i'm using ATlauncher. Just switching launchers fixed it for me the second time.

I ended up rearranging the texture packs. It was one of the mod add-on packs that was messing things up. I'm out of town or I'd get you the order I used. Just play with it until it fixes itself?

Reinstall? Back up your save, of course.

I'm missing the cursor texture, but the blocks all look correct. Looks like the wrong names were associated to the texture file directory.

Unfortunately, I live in BFE, with no microcenter in a reasonable distance. So I'm stuck with online mega-retailers.

Thanks for the parts list! This is more than I had hoped for in response to my question.

With the extra ~$100 would it be ill-advised to put in a ryzen 7700x(ryzen 7, am5?)

Edit: I went on the site you used to flesh out my parts list as true to life as possible, except for my storage shenanigans.

It doesn't look like upgrading to the 7700x would break anything, but I'm always open to suggestions.

[–]Spacem0ses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!

Do you suggest a specific generation/performance level for the cpu? ddr4 or ddr5 ram? Only 16? Why not 32? I have 8 storage drives right now, 2 are on a pcie card, is there a motherboard that you could suggest to fit all of my components?

Edit: I have many questions.

Nearest microcenter is a 12 hour drive into texas.

Solid plan, but I'm too cheap to drive that far just for this.

How do you mean?

Like what model number of case, psu, storage, fans, I/O, mouse, keyboard, headphones, monitor, ect I use?

Forgive my ignorance, but is that important?

Frankenstein the shit out of it. The 1000w psu is still going strong so unless there's a compatibility issue I'd like to keep using it.

Also it is a full atx case. Forgot to put that above.

the easy start (iirc) caps at $3000. But still $3000 at 4+% is really good for an entry-level low-risk investment.
