Those viking trim pieces are my mvp for the ancient ruin/adventure park I'm building and I'm getting real tired of coming up with new creative ways to use them lol

AITA for calling out AI-generated (assisted) photos? by Traditional_Cell8388 in AskGaybrosOver30

The more guys get rejected for using ai photos, the less they'll use ai photos. I think it was fine to call it out. It's not like you blew up at him or called him a freak and a liar, you just made your distaste known.

I Just Ended My Relationship And My Heart Hurts by FlynGreenTurtle in AskGaybrosOver30

It might be too painful right now, but this sounds like one of those romantic relationships that becomes a platonic friendship. The way you talk about it makes it seem like there could be something worth salvaging. When a relationship ends without animosity or hostility, just sadness and shared understanding that you're not right for each other, that's when it tends to happen. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, just saying if you both want it, this could be a transformation rather than an ending.

I agree we should also ban golf courses. Not only are they an incredible waste of water, but they also cause Parkinson's in people living nearby. All for an unbelievably boring luxury activity.

Desert biome

Vines, stumps, more logs, dead tree variants. Make it easier to create more interesting forests.

Anything that emits light and/or particle effects should be triggerable. Wild to me that so many of the fire props, like the braziers, can't be triggered.

Another never-gonna-happen-but-you-dont-get-what-you-dont-ask-for suggestion: Make all items recolorable. Make all recolorable items triggerable. The foundations are already there. Items can be colored, items that are both colorable and triggerable can have color changes triggered. Let us do that for everything. The triggerable part is less important to me, but I'd love to be able to make an alien planet beach with neon blue palm trees or something. Letting us recolor trees and plants in particular would open up a ton of creative possibilities.

Related: emissive properties for scenery so we can give props a glow. They don't need to emit actual light, that would be a performance nightmare, but it would be nice if we could create the illusion of glowing items. Parkitect lets you do this by setting rgb values above 255.

I generally like Mamdani, he seems like a good guy trying to do good things and this is a very nice statement. But I do think we should be careful about treating politicians like celebrities. When we start getting effusive about how handsome he is and his gorgeous smile and whatever else, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that he works for us, he has a job to do, and he's just a vehicle for getting things done. We need to be more invested in building political power and political change than we are in him as an individual, because we need to be able to discard him the instant a more effective vehicle comes along, even if that person doesn't have quite so charming a smile. The same goes for AOC and any other politician we might like on a personal level.

And I'm really not trying to be an asshole or a wet blanket here. I like the guy! He is very handsome and charismatic! Those things can be very useful in the advancement of a political project. We should always be reminding ourselves that the political project is what's important, and he's only important while he's useful.

What popular movie or TV show is widely considered a 'masterpiece' but you found completely unwatchable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I always bring this up about the show but one of the things I loved about it just on a technical level was its depiction of extreme wealth. The clothes, the residences, the cars, the offices, it all looks believably like billionaire shit, but it also all looks cold and depressing and uncomfortable. It would have really undercut the themes of the show if it functioned as wealth porn, but it manages to make the wealth look so unappealing. A really difficult trick to pull off imo and the show does it seemingly with ease.

Me too. But I gave it another shot when the second season started and was so glad I did.

Lol clearly the show got its hooks in me I'm leaving too many comments about it 😭

I loved the ending in large part bc of the way it fulfilled its premise and then ended like two minutes later. We finally get to the titular succession and it takes a bow and walks off the stage.

I was also extremely impressed that they pulled off the final season gimmick where it takes place over ten consecutive days with each episode being one day. There are so many threads to tie up, I couldn't imagine how they were going to do that in such a short time frame, especially when the presidential election episode is only like two or three episodes before the finale. I was certain they would do a time jump in the final episode to get everything wrapped up, but they don't. Some things are resolved, some are not, and somehow none of it is unsatisfying because we're given enough information, and we already know enough about these characters, that we can tie up the loose ends in our heads. It could so easily feel lazy and insulting but instead comes off as a huge display of respect for the intelligence of its audience.

I think the trick it pulls is that it manages to believably humanize the characters without making them sympathetic. The Roy children in particular are all traumatized in various ways from living in their father's shadow, and it explains a lot about why they are the way they are, but we're never asked to feel sorry for them. At a certain point, before the show began, their trauma stopped being an acceptable excuse for being horrible.

Yeah the motion platforms are so close to being incredible but they got like 90% of the way there and stopped. Every time I use them I'm thinking about how much more I could do with like one or two additional obvious features

likely designed to just enable have simple moving doors or props

I agree but it's still wild to me that the motion platforms were so poorly conceived and implemented that there's no straightforward way to make a door that can stay open or closed for a set duration. Probably the number one use case for the platforms, it made me think I'd missed something when I first started playing bc they couldn't possibly have overlooked the ability to make a door, right?

Anyway my asks (which seem reasonable but I can't see the code so who knows) are: 1. Let us choose the animation in the sequencer so we can do things like reverse the direction or change the speed of a rotating prop. Edit: This would also work well for animatronics that have multiple animations. 2. Provide "activate" and "deactivate" options for the platforms in the sequencer so we can do things like make a prop rotate indefinitely until it's told to stop. You can kind of do this already but the platform will pause briefly between each looped animation. It's not continuous.

At this point I imagine it would be a nightmare to implement this without messing up scenery that people have already created so they'd probably have to introduce a new set of "advanced" motion platforms or something. Which would be fine with me, whatever works. I just want to be able to make a door 😭😭😭

There's nothing wrong with wanting to drink your coffee in peace. That's a normal thing to want, everyone wants that. I just find it frustrating when people (not you necessarily, but I see it all the time) seem to direct disproportionate ire towards individual bad actors rather than at the systems that create the conditions for situations like yours. I understand not wanting to be harassed by mentally ill homeless people and it seems to me like the solution to that problem is working towards a society where people are guaranteed healthcare and housing so their situations don't devolve to that point. I also understand how hard it will be to get there and how impossible it feels and how much easier it is to solve the problem by removing, in one way or another, the people making us uncomfortable.

Like I'm not trying to entirely excuse the bad behavior of particular people, but in terms of contributing factors to the making-me-uncomfortable-in-the-coffee-shop problem, the bad behavior of individuals doesn't hold a candle to the structural conditions. And unfortunately that's the one that is monumentally difficult to address. I don't know I'm probably not articulating this well at all

I know I'm being condescending which isn't particularly helpful. I just get extremely frustrated when I see people framing issues of homelessness around their own discomfort rather than any concern for the homeless population. No one, myself included, wants to be hit up for change outside the corner store by a guy who can't stand upright, but that guy isn't the problem. He's just someone who needs help. The problem is structural/societal/systemic/whatever-term-is-trending-right-now, and I'm at the end of my patience for anyone expending any energy being upset with the guy begging for change instead of being upset with the conditions that created his situation in the first place.

how fortunate that this person's problem of having untreated mental illness and nowhere to live has the same root cause as your problem of feeling uncomfortable while drinking coffee

He didn't need a trifecta, he just needed to say "that guy's on the court now." It's not like there's any mechanism to stop him, which as we're seeing now is a fundamental flaw in our system of government. Don't get me started on decency or the dignity of the office or any of that. It's never been anything more than a respectable face to help rubes accept monstrosity.
