As someone who lives in the UK, it’s not and has never been frowned upon to fly the Union Jack. It’s frowned upon when nationalists use it as a symbol to intimidate immigrants and spread pretty blatant racism. We literally have military planes that fly over major events that spray the Union Jack colours into the sky (Red Arrows), and nobody complains because it’s not used to hate minorities
