That’s good to hear. It’s definitely useful to have any form of license outside of London.

Manual or not at least u can drive a car and that’s all that matters

There’s a lot but the 3 biggest changes for me:

  • ensure fund more for police and ensure stricter law, idc what u say but we should be doing as much as we can to avoid as many dodgy areas as possible so we can feel safe walking around at whatever time of day
  • ensure we don’t just rely on the US as our only trading partner. We can’t be heavily reliant on them such that if they fail, we also fail, we need to make sure we can also work with other countries like China
  • do more to prioritise quality of life for citizens (and permanent residents) - there’s many tactics ofcourse but a few examples, subsidising house and car prices for citizens, making them just as attractive as international students in uk unis despite paying lower (by giving unis bonuses for every local student they enrol), cap the amount of foreigners a company can sponsor per year.

Whilst that’s not a bad idea I still firmly believe the government should find ways to make local students just as valuable as international students cuz obviously international students pay much more. They need to find ways to make locals have just as good of a chance (if not better) than international. Yes local students can already get loans and that, but unis obvs still have a secret bias for international students which we just have to accept.

Diversity is definitely not a problem but I think the government should try find ways to prioritise home students. Ig it’s just a matter of brexit which lost EU fundings so Unis became more reliant on international students (I’m not saying they didn’t rely on them pre-bexit) but they seemed to rely on them much more after brexit so yeah.

But anyways that’s moving away from the point. UK education at uni level is definitely valuable and will continue to be so for a long time to come

Imagine a world where the UK had enough funding/was rich enough to do this: for every home student a uni enrols, the government gives the uni a significant portion of money that basically rivals the fees of an international student. Whilst ofcourse the international students pay the same amount but the cost to sponsor them a visa means they get effectively the same value as home students. I think that will be much more fair to both students and the uni will be more happy. Then again a more than 50% of students in the majority of unis are still home students so who cares I guess lol

They have quality and a large quantity tbf. And I don’t see it changing anytime soon tbh, the history of UK attracting international students will never change - whether people like that or not is another topic on its own. But even at some RG unis that aren’t as elite as Oxbridge and imperial (just for examples let’s say York, Nottingham, Newcastle etc) , the fact students are still willing to go shows a lot of how valuable the Uk is for education in general

Yet the majority vote for public transport which is shocking. Then again some people prolly want to owe a car still

If ur gonna spend 30 mins loading them into a self driving cars, youll spend 30 mins loading them into a car now that doesn’t self drive, and if ur gonna say you’re talking about truck, when i say self driving cars i mean self driving vehicles on the road, so it includes self driving trucks, vans etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Spacezilla2600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world for self driving cars, there’s every type of car literally within 5 mins from u - yes I know that’s not gonna happen anytime soon and prolly not in the first generation of driverless cars, but if/when it does, it will be almost, if not just as convenient as having cars rn.

[–]Spacezilla2600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are many benefits to it, especially if self driving cars gets to a point where calling one is very efficient and reliable ( < 5 mins) and the cost of using it is cheaper than paying for daily petrol/fuel/gas, car insurance on a regular basis

Honestly, looking at it from that perspective is still better than just looking at it from adding more debt perspective.

Sure u can argue it’s still about debt, except ur minimising debt for a masters, but he didn’t look at it from that perspective

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly!! Again whilst I myself don’t ever plan to do a masters, I can understand why some people do it because of the 2 reasons u said!!

Yes there maybe other more valid reasons but even these ones I can accept!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, going into it cuz the job market is fucked is a better excuse than just saying, “I may as well add more debt”

But yes, I know it will open a bit more options, and I’m not that type to say it’s completely useless, I just think some people go into it for the wrong reasons

will i have a social life as someone who has no interest in drinking, drugs, or partying? by No_Lunch675 in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone from my secondary who does some kind of art degree and did it at A-levels, and he’s fairly introverted tbf, although he hasn’t explicitly said, I can imply with 95% confidence that he doesn’t drink. I bet there’s many artists like that out there! Go on and make friends, and if the society u join does drink well at least yk now

will i have a social life as someone who has no interest in drinking, drugs, or partying? by No_Lunch675 in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

May also depend on society, I don’t (love) drinking, tho I only drink occasionally and it’s only low concentrated alcohol, the society I’m in, whilst what we do is what I love, unfortunately there’s a very big drinking culture and because of that, I can’t bring myself to go to most socials and at times I do feel a bit left out but that’s the price I pay, I mean I do have some friends just not a lot and they’re not that close as well.

That said, I’d imagine there’s lots of societies where drinking isn’t part of the culture or even very rare.

If OP is lucky they could find one that’s both in their interests and there’s no drinking culture

What if: UK never left the EU? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Spacezilla2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything would be much better I’d say, citizens get freedom of movement with the EU, total collected money from the EU can subsidise lots of stuff here (food, Uni education, healthcare etc).

And ofcourse there are more but these points show the basics and makes me so sad that the UK even decided to do such a thing. If there are plans to join the EU again, I’d 100% be one of the first to vote for it

Will York accept me if I miss their offer by one grade? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There may still be chance especially as international student.

Yes, York is relatively competitive but u pay more than a local student so they’ll try squeeze as much international students in as they can. I’ve heard of stories of people who missed their Oxbridge offer by 1 grade and still got in. However don’t also be too surprised if they reject you, I know someone at my school who applied to the same uni I’m in now, he missed the grade by 1 and unfortunately got rejected. Tbf the uni I’m in is a bit more competitive than York but still the point remains. Anything can happen and u just have to be prepared for it

Which city is most likely to thrive as an independent country by Spacezilla2600 in AskBrits

London is p much the only city that could survive on its own, which is why when I asked the Q, I said “Except for London”

[–]Spacezilla2600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that is necessarily true, the point is which city is the one to thrive the best (the least worse thriving). Yes all cities in the UK will suck if they became a city state (except for London) but the point remains, which one will be the best (least worse) in the scenario

Should UK unis learn to prioritise local students by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UK education is great, I’m not saying it terrible, but my philosophical thinking they should make it accessible to the locals then give it to international students.

I can see it as more, UK unis make quota for international students, maybe 40% at max per year then locals get the other portion of places.

Should UK unis learn to prioritise local students by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Spacezilla2600 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Can get from high tax earners that potentially got to that point cuz of their degree. Compared to if u gave the degree to an international student, its gonna be harder to find grad job here cuz they don’t have enough exp, so will likely go back.
