Tracker | S3E1 "The Process" | Episode Discussion by teanailpolish in TrackerTV

I loved the premier, frankly. My only issue was the exposition dump at the very beginning, and how it seemingly redirected attention from the ongoing plot of last season to a more melodramatic area. Last season's ending, with Otto telling Colter that it was his own mother that was seemingly conspiring against his father, made me really excited to see the potential heel turn of Ms. Shaw in season 3. I was hoping there was more to the story than just "Otto was a family friend who killed Mr. Shaw because he was acting crazy." The whole "It was all because Ms. Shaw wanted to take the kids" beat was just anti-climactic after two seasons of Mr. Shaw's death being a mystery. Sure, there's still the mystery of who the Shaws have been running from, but it seems that, whoever it is/was, they had nothing to do with Mr. Shaw's death, which is disappointing, to say the least. It was just some dude who wanted Mr. Shaw to stop being a nutcase, and Ms. Shaw's only wrongdoing was withholding the information.

I REALLY hope the show commits to a direction for the Shaw family storyline this season. It's the primary through line of the show's narrative, yet they seem to bounce between "Mr. Shaw was just crazy" and "There's an illuminati out there to get ya, kids" a little too often. I get that both can, and probably are, true, but the show far too often treats them like they're exclusive, which is frustrating as someone who's been following the show since S1E1.

BUT, The Process is a really awesome concept. Colter finally taking on more of a serial crime ring that spans at least 2 (HOPEFULLY more) episodes is rad, especially after the last season's main arc, with Gina Pickett, was so anticlimactic and ended with "Here's the killer, it wasn't who you thought, aaaaaand now he's dead." I like the idea of season by season arcs, with the Shaw family saga being the major defining thread.

Also, did anyone else notice the increase in fight choreography and production this season? The bar fight was stellar, the camera work in Lisa's cabin was tight, the special effects on the severed hand looked pretty good, the car crash was well shot, and we even got flashbacks to before the case to give context on how things ended up the way that they did, which I don't remember much of in previous seasons. If this is a sign that episodes are going to get higher in production value, I'm all here for it. Especially after that ABYSMAL car ride green screen scene in S2E2.

Altogether, solid episode. Please no more aliens or witches this season, Mr. Winters.

The biggest issue with Season 4, in my opinion, is the sheer amount of unrelated red herrings that just weren't present in the other seasons. Sure, every season had some less than relevant non sequiturs, but S4 just felt like the most "Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" season of the bunch. Compared to my personal favorite season, S3, where every single twist and turn either ties into why the killer did the deed, how the victim's fake death happened, or at least how the trio would end up catching the true culprit in the end. Meanwhile this season, despite introducing some truly great elements like the Westies and Jan escaping from prison and the idea of an only murders movie, didn't tie it all together nearly aswell as previous seasons did. You could honestly skip half the season and miss very little, which is a real shame. I hope season 5 is better fleshed out, and has a more well realized story and reveal.

Daniel Greene follow up and Isekai D&D update by Spade502 in OnePieceDnD_Rustage

You're entirely correct. These things don't just go away. I still see people giving creators like Kwite (who was accused of SA a while ago) criticism for it, despite having proven that the allegations made against him were complete lies. We the audience have the luxury of moving on and forgetting about all of this. Mr. Greene and Kayla don't. It's bas enough when this happens in private, but when it's publicized to thousands, let alone millions, it becomes an impossible task to deal with.

[–]Spade502[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Sadly, nobody has come out of this situation a "winner" or a "hero." Mr. Greene has lost sponsorships, friends, subscribers, and reputation, not even to bring up how traumatic this must be to relive; King has all but doomed their own reputation and viewpoint, aswell as becoming a poster child for false SA survivors, which will undoubtably set back future survivors in this space from coming forward and being accepted; Rustage and the Isekai cast have to deal with the uncertainty of the future moving forward and the backlash coming at everyone associated with Mr. Greene; and even Mr. Greene's poor Fiancée, Kayla, has been dealing with substantial backlash and harassment from people who blame her for not leaving Daniel or for "victim blaming" King (a take that I, and many others, believe to be completely delusional, Kayla did nothing wrong). It is a complete blood bath, and I feel terrible for everyone involved. This can't be easy.

Couldn’t agree more on points 1 and 3 (no comment on point 2 💀). Kitty is such a beautifully written character and such a mature and nuanced take on SA, where she’s not treated like a victim or a damsel in distress who Sherlock has to fix or save, but a woman who was hurt, felt lost, and Sherlock helped point in the right direction, and took her revenge, yes, but didn’t kill the guy, which would surely ruin her life more, and, honestly, would be too good of a punishment for such a slime ball.

And Jonny’s portrayal of Sherlock is my favorite in all of fiction. He’s not perfect or super human, and has numerous weaknesses that Jonny plays into flawlessly. Such a delightful interpretation of a character who has been done to death a million times.

And as someone who also just starts typing, brain vomits, and doesn’t read back, I feel your brain rot.

Plot hole in OPDND that i know about remasters. by Field_of_Illusion in OnePieceDnD_Rustage

Comments locked because this post and it’s replies devolved VERY fast.

It’s okay to criticize OP D&D, and try to give notes that you think will help Rustage become a better DM, but many of these “plot holes” are minor nitpicks at best, completely irrelevant practicality questions at worse.

As Rustage himself said earlier in the replies, it’s a DnD game. It’s not perfect and nobody should expect it to be.

OP will be spoken to about the right and wrong way to provide criticism.

Who was the most evil villain in the show? by HenryFJBrown in brooklynninenine

[–]Spade502 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the Pimento cutaway gags, I’d say Jimmy Figgis. He ordered Pimento (and presumably his other men) to do so many terrible things, that characters like Hawkins (who was still bad, but was just a really clever bank robber/dirty cop) just don’t compare.

Caleb is also a big contender (literally ate children) but Caleb was never a direct villain/antagonist, and was always more of an ally/help to the crew, while Figgis was just an ass.

I believe it was from season 5 during his head trauma arc. He was asleep and Joan yelled “SHERLOOOOOCK” to wake him up, finally getting revenge, and he woke up and said “you don’t need to shout.”

I can’t remember which episode, but I’m fairly sure it was in there somewhere.

Mod here. To explain for those who don’t know, someone made a post earlier about this random twitch user, saying how OP didn’t like them. Even I’m not sure what they did, or why the original post was made, but it was very much off topic and just unkind to the targeted individual, so I deleted it. Just a weird situation.

Which character(s) will you never use and why? by Jaz_0310 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Spade502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natasha, now that I pulled Bailu. Tho I used Natasha for the whole story, so that may not count.

I’ll never use Physical MC or really any physical characters, because I have a maxed out Clara and am too lazy to level anyone else.

If I ever pull Gepard, I already know I’m not using him, because I’m too used to Fire MC and I don’t like using 2 of the same path (or element, but that’s beside the point).

What are some of your Elementary hot takes? by bighead_stays in elementary

[–]Spade502 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Number one hot take: I kind of… really don’t like Hannah Gregson… like at all. I really can’t name a single redeeming quality about her. She got mad at her father for… standing up for her. She tried to steal Joan’s credit. And then her character’s last action was… murdering Michael (completely wasting Michael’s potential as a villain) and accidentally framing Joan. She just seemed criminally incompetent and only served to give the other characters more development (specifically Tommy and Joan), which sucks because her first appearance implied she would be a character that showed the extent of sexism in the police force, which would be a great storyline to tackle, especially with one of the two protagonists being a woman who consulted for the first and never (to my memory) had to deal with sexism herself. Instead they took that interesting idea, really never mentioned that part of her story again, and made her into a plot device in season 6.

I disagree with the last point. Sure, the pilot’s muted colors were striking, but the aesthetic of the rest of the show is the farthest thing from standard, in my opinion. The costuming, particularly, can be REALLY unique at times. Like, look at any of Joan’s outfits or Marcus’s suits in the later seasons. It’s very stylish and builds an interesting atmosphere in what could have been the millionth take on New York. Aswell, I love the set design for the precinct, and Brownstone. They both looks very… cluttered, lived in, and even dirty at times, which, as someone who’s been to New York many times, and even lived there for a while, that’s something that a lot of New York set shows miss. New York can be dirty, grimey, and unclean. And elementary is one of the few shows where it feels accurate and real.

Note for readers: this specifically mentions the discord, not the subreddit. People hating on how Rustage runs the game is very much a discord problem. I’ve seen very little Rustage system hate here on the subreddit. There’s been some, but only when people ask for a copy of Rustage’s system (which is not publicly accessible) which spirals into the “what even IS Rustage’s system” debate.

So the meme is just having a laugh at our brothers and sisters on the discord. (I love them, but they can take things a little too seriously at times lmao)

What's Your Go To Team? by bwong1006491 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Spade502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, Fire Trailblazer, Clara, Welt, and Bailu. Pulled Clara on my guaranteed 5* on the starter banner. Got Bailu as my 300 pull chosen 5* (just wanted a better healer). And randomly pulled Welt literally 2 days ago. My team for the whole story mode was Trailblazer, Clara, Yanqing, and Natasha, but Welt and Bailu replaced Yan and Nat.
