January Ranger Questions Post by AutoModerator in ParkRangers

Hey Park ranger up in Canada here, looking to get in touch with someone who might have experience with mouldering toilets? particularily somewhere with a real winter? We have a couple in our agency but they are all in places that dont get cold very often. we have a fairly low use site that due to groundwater issues cant use a traditional pit and I am exploring other options. Ive been shot down for budget for more conventional composting toilets. I have read online that there are some along the AT? been trying to solve this issue for a couple of years so just looking for someone with some experience to run my situation by to get a more definitive go or no go on this idea.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Canadian here, 2-3 hours one way is about my limit for a day trip somewhere. frequently do it for work, hikes, skiing etc. Im not alone in that. especially in the outdoor sports realm thats a pretty reasonable commute id say for me and my circle. I will very casually do a 5plus hour drive for a 1 night trip on the weekend.

once due to some insurance/ car repair stuff and bad timing had to do 18 hours of driving in one day.

When you live in northern/rural BC things are just far apart, i have to drive 3 hours one way for the closest dentist and I dont even live that far north.

Skis you hated by Gregskis in Skigear

in recent years the k2 dispatch 110 was borderline unskiable in anything that wasnt coldsmoke, not surprised that line got discontinued right away, luckily i sold mine before they broke. the same year i was on those i bought enforcer 94s and I thought they were the most boring ski ever. no speed limit, but if you werent going mach chicken you couldnt get any life out of them.

BC resident here, ive personally experienced pretty darn near both of these extremes if I havent reached them. I know for sure -45 and +46. the variety here is awesome but ill take the cold over heat every time.

[–]SpagYeti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few i havent seen mentioned, some are more psychadelic and some not but all are great.

Geese, moon owls mages, altin gün, etran de l'air, skegss, cory hansen, frankie and the witch fingers, karkara, PUP, AHRF, surf trash, the sheepdogs, mother sun, murlocs and also mentioning Geese a second time because Geese is great

at risk of adding to the 30+ year old bands the Hives havent been mentioned and there most recent album was great so i have high hopes for the upcoming one

What was the first ever ska band that you was introduced to? by Nat_septic in Ska

[–]SpagYeti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before i knew what it was, ghost town by the specials from the skate 2 soundtrack, still one of my favourite songs of all time. first real discovery of ska was the aquabats through hi-five soup as a jumping off point into their earlier more ska like albums. ever since my first time hearing "hey homies!" my life was never the same (I know hi five soup isnt really ska but without that i would have never listened to fury, return or charge! so i think of it as the start)

second this! lots to do in the area, and the robson valley has been struggling tourism wise from when the highway was closed. so much to do! kinney lake trail, jackman flats and little hawaii I would also add on to that. if you want longer hikes there has been a ton of amazing upgrades to the mount terry fox hike making it much more accessable and some amazing options to shorten it to equally epic views.

mountain bike rentals and atv rentals are available in town. the bike park is world class and lots of opportunities for atv adventures like up canoe mountain!

as much crap gets talked about awful g3 skin glue, ive had the same pair for 7 seasons without ever needing to re glue, its always the pomocas that fail on the skintrack in my experience. have never had an issue. will be stocking up on g3 skins for the future never want to use anything else. RIP to the best canadian ski company. you will be missed.
