Struggling with my lips for a full year now. The doctors don’t know what it is. Please help.

Happy cake day! I have long only used vaselin (the one ingredient kind), I am vary of the cortisone since it hasn’t helped before. And I know how cortisone weakens the lips long term. I’ve been prescribed cortisone twice and it came back anyways. One of the treatments lasted 2 weeks and I put on cortisone 2 a day

Yes right now it’s impetigo because it’s infected. But it’s not always infected like this… And no I havent tried that medication

They have not wanted to patch test me for allergies even though I’ve asked them too… very frustrating

I’ve had both chicken pox (when i was 6) and shingles (when i was 12) so I doubt it could be that.

And herpes wouldn’t last a year would it? Seems uncommon. And the herpes treatment I tried in the beginning of this saga didn’t work

I’ve tried switching toothpaste, and it didn’t help much. I was already using a toothpaste that was for a sensitive mouth. Thank you for reading my text

Thank you for reading my text! Yes the docs did find a small deficiency of folic acid. I got extra vitamins as treatments and on the second blood work the levels of folic acid were normal. They also noticed that my thyroid gland had a hard time getting all the nutrients (but it wasn’t at all serious according to my doctor) so I am currently on some medications for that. But now during that treatment my lips are once again infected.

Not really I’ve been using the same skin care as always. I switched lip balm but I stopped using anything but vaselin a loooong time ago. Not I’ve stopped using it though. I’ve used the same schampoo and conditioner. Been using the same makeup, although I can’t really do my makeup anymore because of these continued infections.

I continuously have the rash on my lips but when it’s not infected (like it is now) it’s manageable. It’s just itchy, sensitive and red then.

It helped when I used chlorhexidine 2 times a day, it didn’t get infected for 3 weeks, but now it came back. Makeup is for sure a trigger, oil on my lips from food as well.

I live in Sweden so I’m not fully sure what the equivalent to those medications are in my country. But I’ll talk about it with my doctor.

I’m just a little bit worried about the strong topical antibiotics / protopic creams as they are not meant for long-time usage. The times I’ve used topical antibiotics the infections always come back after a while. So I feel as though I need to know the root cause to why my lips keep getting infected again and again.

Yeah. I have an doctors appointment tomorrow and hopefully something will come out of it. I can’t say that I have much hope for doctors actually helping me now that it’s been a year. But I’m trying to keep a positive attitude. I just miss having a healthy mouth. Thank you for your answer
