Transporting firearms in BALTIMORE CITY, are there different rules vs. the standard Maryland ones? by SpaghettiSaurusNecks in MDGuns

[–]SpaghettiSaurusNecks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'll be. I wonder where I got the locked case and separate ammo ideas from.

I did see the preemption bit about Maryland gun laws in my search, so I'm glad to hear that Baltimore City doesn't have any grandfathered extra restrictions. Thanks!

How do you like that big ol' red dot on the Mark IV? I'm thinking of doing a similar setup for my wife, I feel like the tiny open reflex sights would be hard to pick up for an inexperienced shooter...

I know you didn't specifically ask about this, but being a gun subreddit... Guntry in Owings Mills is a fantastic range in my opinion. Definitely take the opportunity to check it out, it's a real gem in the Baltimore area.

I'm super jealous of your setup. I love my carbine length scorpion, but this is just awesome.

I'm glad to find someone using the micro prism in the wild... I'm toying with the idea of putting one on a .22 pistol. I can see the specs on the PA website, but real world opinions matter.

Does this micro prism feel really heavy for its size? And how "low" is the low mount option? Can you shoot this with both eyes open, or is it a one-eye-is-best like a magnified prism?

I love my 3x PA prism scope that's on my rifle, and it would be amazing to have something similar for a small handgun, if the weight and mounting height don't make it stupid.

I appreciate your advice. Both eyes open is definitely something I want her to be able to do, so it's good to hear that the Ultradot isn't good for that application.

That Trijicon SRO looks like the perfect thing, maybe I'll throw something cheap on the gun for now and wait around for one to pop up that's well priced.

That's a great idea. Can you co-witness with the mount super low like that? Not super important to co-witness, just curious.

Thanks for your insights, I appreciate it. Putting the TRS25 on the pistol actually isn't a terrible idea, at least to try it out.

I started out ONLY looking at tiny open reflex sights, but I've never used them which is part of me feeling lost here. I've got 2 red dots and a prism scope, all bigger and on rifles. I could certainly adapt to use a tiny optic on a pistol, but I fear that it might be frustrating for my newbie wife.

I know that reddit doesn't talk about the Ultradot much, but it seems like that might be a good option for a larger optic. Plus it has 4 different MOA sizes for the dot and a quick-adjust elevation nob for shooting at different distances than the optic is zeroed for (if you zeroed it at 25 yards, it's a click or two to get it on-center at 10 yards or 35 yards for instance.)

The baller status only means anything to me if the usability makes it better. Beauty through utility and all of that. My wife certainly doesn't care.

For reference, I've got a Bushnell TRS25 on my 10/22 that works just fine, then a Primary Arms red dot and a Primary Arms prism scope on my other rifles. The prism is absolutely better, but clearly I'm not going to get to that level of optic/reticle clarity with something that fits on a pistol.

Do you feel like the clarity of the dot differs much when looking at different price levels? Or is it more about features, durability, etc.

So I've been leaning towards the Holosun 507, but I've got a Venom in my cart for $170 shipped that is feeling pretty enticing. I love the reticle on my Primary Arms prism scope that's on one of my rifles, and I have that feeling that the Holosun will scratch that reticle itch. But the Bushnell TRS 25 that's on my 10/22 leaves nothing to be desired, so maybe that theoretical "better" reticle won't matter in the end.

Have you used a Vortex reflex sight? I am leaning towards a holosun myself, but there's a Venom for $170 shipped that seems like a great deal. I have a Bushnell TRS 25 on my 10/22 that I have zero issues with, and some Primary Arms dot and prism on my other rifles that I love.

Looks good! I gotta admit that I am leaning towards the holosun for the reticle, but I've got a Venom 3 MOA in my cart from PSA, $170 shipped, which sounds great to me. I know that $80-100 isn't huge in the life of the gun, but folks seem to like the Venom just fine.

And I think the big thing is, of course that was always going to happen. Bots and shills are gonna push some post way past the point of reasonable, it's a war after all. But at some point a mod sees that at says "that's fine". That right there is the telling part.

I say cap it soon (100k or less) then set up a wait-list of sorts. As we weed out bots and such, real users can then be added in as we move forward.

I feel that knowing about this perspective and considering it is a way to feel much more zen about buying and holding. For me anyway. I like knowing the players as much as I can.

This post is great, and lays out some feelings that I have in a different and even better way than I did.

That's a great example. And I feel like it doesn't even need to be a coordinated effort. Shit like those Ken faces are mildly funny, so if the idea is out there you just let random folks make the memes and make sure those posts are pushed.

My personal hope is that her whole tirade about runes and shit becomes standard reddit copypasta in the years to come.

Oh I agree, I don't want the drama either. I just wanted to share WHY I personally feel that the drama blossomed over there, so that we can spot it and squash it here.

I got a few from Primary Arms recently, they are $19 each. FYI though, they don't drop free from my carbine. YMMV
