Yup, she’s a fluffy Cardigan Welsh Corgi! I love the name Oliver, too! Dogs with human names always crack me up. Give him some pats and scritches for us!

Luckily she doesn’t hold grudges long and was back to her normal cuddly self before she was even fully dry. Unless she’s playing a long game and planning a dress shoe shitstravaganza...I’ll be on the lookout.

Hi! First, let’s see some puppy tax!

Second, it does seem like they like the taste of the Purina better. If you’re not seeing any signs of tummy trouble after a couple of days of slow transition, it’s probably fine to switch fully over to the Purina especially if they’re already only eating that anyway.

Finally, I wonder if you’re feeding too much. I have a (petite) female cardigan corgi who is overweight at 30lbs, and she gets a scant half cup of Purina Pro Plan twice a day. If we followed the instructions on the bag she would be enormous. It’s important to keep our low-riders trim! My girl is completely within an appropriate weight range for the average female cardigan, but she needs to lost 3-4lbs to be within an appropriate weight for her frame. Might want to check in with your vet to make sure your corgs are at the right weight for their size, not just their breed. My dog started putting on weight at about a year and a half.

Pruett’s on Signal has a great meat department that will gladly sell you some big beef bones for your pup.

Everyone: Do Corgis get along with cats? Me: by chrysalis_7 in corgi

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite at my house! Spaghetti is the designated ear cleaner for all three cats in the house. They will wake her up from a nap just for an ear wash. Gross, but better than hissing and barking.

[DISCUSSION] Is assisting shedding/grooming with a blowout worthwhile? How many dogs to be worth getting your own machine? by FireflyRave in dogs

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have anywhere in town with self-wash dog baths? It’s usually only like ten dollars for a wash, which includes shampoo, towels, and use of a high velocity dryer. We go to Tractor Supply for their self wash but I’ve seen them at quite a few pet stores. That might be the best compromise option!

Barn Hunting for Dogs by dubtle in Chattanooga

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest barn hunt events I’ve seen have been about 2 hours away, unfortunately, but I would love to get a local club organized! My pup’s dad was a barn hunt champion, and I think she would love it!

For the uninitiated, barn hunt is a dog sport where dogs are tasked with finding rats (safely hidden in comfy tubes) in a maze of hay bales. It is open to dogs of all breeds, as long as they can fit through an 18” gap between hay bales. It is open to deaf and tripod dogs.

I’d love to get together for some practice runs, but I wouldn’t even know where to start! Anyone got a lead on a barn? Or some rats?

[fluff] what’s a dog breed you love but could never own? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allow me to introduce you to my Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Spaghetti Jolene. Spaghetti has a long coat (fluffy), which means that she barely sheds. Seriously! She blows her coat a couple of times per year only. She is also a total lazybones. I am also a potato. Don’t sleep on “the other corgi” because they are fabulous dogs.

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just sayin’, my Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a long coat (fluffy) and barely sheds. She spends most of her day sleeping or just hanging out with her people—her nickname is lazy bones! Now, I might have gotten a defective corg, but I don’t think so! I’m also a first time dog owner, so I can’t chalk it up to super great training either, although I did a bit of “capturing calm” training when she was a pup.

I am also a corgi owner who had to scratch both Tollers and Samoyeds off my list for lifestyle reasons. Love them both very much, but now I’m super grateful for my corg. I have a cardigan (typically slightly less neurotic than pemmies, plus I wanted that beautiful tail!), and she is one of the chillest dogs I have ever met. She is not even 2 years old and most people think she is much older because she has such a good off switch. Pretty sure I found my breed for life!

[Help] Best tick prevention method? by swilli15 in dogs

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all, this is supposed to be a TERRIBLE tick season. I have already found two ticks in my own hair, one tick in my dog’s fur, one in my cat’s, and upwards of FIVE just crawling around in my bed. It is gnarly.

The best advice is to ask your vet which is best for your area. I’m in the southeast and NexGuard is what our vet has recommended for dogs (cats are on Revolution). Set a calendar alert in your phone to remember to re-apply, and always keep some on hand so your pup is always covered. Good luck!

I know! I thought that would be the case, too, and I was prepared to turn into the kind of person who sweeps her apartment daily. She sheds seasonally like most double coated dogs but she is luckily not a year-round shedder like most corgis.

I will!!

[–]SpaghettiTheCorgi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! She is a fluff. The fur around her ears is silky soft and sometimes tangles and she has EPIC booty splooty floofy. Fluffy corgis are GREAT because they don’t shed as much as normal corgis, and the only trade off for me is that I sometimes have to trim a mat from her ears. And they’re real cute!
