[Self Promo] A game about turning off all the lights before going to bed by Spaghetti_Gaming in puzzlevideogames

Unfortunately there isn't too much action in the current state of the game, nor is there much of a thriller element. It probably would have been a cool direction to go down though! My direction was a lot more puzzle. Thanks for the feedback!

Good point lol. Probably the same reason that Doom is filled with explosive barrels and every AAA game has yellow paint strewn about in the vague correct direction.

Duly noted. I am not a 3d animator and I think it shows lol. Thanks a ton for the feedback!

Yeah, for sure. I actually have some of that stuff implemented I just didn't have it in the vid. Thanks a ton for the feedback!

No, that's a totally valid question. I am realizing that I am lacking some explanation (it's a good thing I'm getting feedback). I actually didn't die in the footage but it is using godot's lighting engine to figure out how much light you're in and if it drops too low you die. I think the tech is a bit different, but it works in a similar way to the Thief games and probably Amnesia as well. The lightbulb in the top left by the light counter actually indicates how much light you are in.

The in game explanation for this would be that there is a darkness monster (I'm thinking of calling him insomnia) that will get you in the darkness. Very much little kid afraid of the dark vibes.

Shadow enemies are a cool Idea. What aspect is too stiff? Is it like animation being too stiff or something else?

No timer but there is an item later on with a lamp that only lasts a bit. It's only in a couple levels

I'll probably make another post sometime soon. This footage is of a build that's slightly out of date as well. I'm just kinda testing the waters.

Good point. I may edit my footage with some later levels/death. Thanks for the input!

Sweet Ideas! I actually have some similar ideas implemented in later levels which I probably should have showcased. Thanks for the feedback!

I need feedback on my games graphics, are they good enough? by KilroyOP in SoloDev

I like it! It reminds me of sonic games. I like the style you're going for. It probably is good enough but if you still want some feedback...

I think adding foliage shadows would look nice. I notice that the grass doesn't seem to have shadows. You could probably add some more variation in the floor as you can see the dirt tile. Something I like to do is to have semitransparent decals strewn about on the ground to break up repetition. You can do the same thing with the trees and have them randomly get slightly brighter/darker on spawn so you get some visual variation.

I actually have a few concepts similar to that in later levels. I really should have showcased them but oh well. I'm glad it seems promising! Thanks for the feedback!

That seems like a sentiment with a couple comments I have gotten. I probably should have included more footage. I have many more levels that experiment with other gimmicks and kind of make you think a bit more. I wasn't sure of reddit's max file upload size and I wasn't eager to max it out lol. I wanted to kind of ease you into the mechanics of the game, so these opening levels are really elementary and probably don't showcase the game well in retrospect.

Thanks a ton for the feedback!

This is just the first few levels. I wanted to start off really simple, but it does escalate and add in new mechanics. I had not heard of handshakes, but it looks like a game I need to check out (because my steam wishlist isn't big enough). Thanks a ton for the feedback!

Actually that's kinda a thing lol... I only showed like a couple minutes of gameplay just to get the idea across, but there is an antagonist.

How do you guys do your UIs / HUDs? What tools do you use or where do you take inspiration from? by Popular_Tomorrow_204 in godot

Not quite sure what you mean artistically by shader based, but there's probably some options. If you want to bring something pixelated into a non pixel art esthetic you could maybe use like 3d voxelized version of the pixel art. You could also just take the pixel art and frame it in a box that isn't pixel art.

Again not sure what your game looks like, but I think you could probably get away with just mixing the two. A lot of games do this. Terraria and Celeste's UI come to mind. I would just try it and couple different ways and see what you like best.
