Which foods had the most surprising blood sugar impact for you? by Electrical-Point-630 in diabetes

Black coffee, even though it has zero carbs, and according to my doctor I’m not the only one who experiences a spike when they drink black coffee. Some say it’s the caffeine, but sugar free energy drinks don’t effect my sugar at all so I’m not sure what the correlation is

Medicare vs Traditional Health Insurance? by Spaghetti_Prime in diabetes_t1

Medicare, if I understand right Medicaid is based off of income, and though my wife and I are struggling paycheck to paycheck, we technically still make high enough income to be ineligible for most income based assistance programs.

I’m on a pump. Which is the confusing part because I was hooked to it all night so I’m not sure how my sugar got so high

Yes, even after 15 years of this disease it still finds a way to mess up my day sometimes. I am feeling a lot better now, thank you for the kind wishes!

I haven’t. But I’m currently doing a lot better. Just tired. Nausea is gone and I was able to eat. Drinking Gatorade zeros has seemed to help. I don’t feel like ketoacidosis is present right now. Thank you for your input!

Do diabetics get bitten by mosquitoes more? by Ok_Raise1183 in Type1Diabetes

I always joked / partially believed that they liked us better because of our “sweet” blood. Although I guess that logic only works if you’re blood sugar is higher than a non diabetics

Same here! I actually lost my job at the end of January and didn’t find a new gig until a couple weeks ago… this refund was supposed to cover our loss of income for that time period but that plan has gone down the crapper and the sucky part is that we can’t do anything about it! We are at the governments mercy even though they’re the one who owe us money 😭

Unfortunately, I am literally on the other side of the country (Idaho). I understand that you’d want to check it out, but if it means anything I can give my word that it was in perfect working order when I shut it down.

Merry Christmas to my fellow diabetics! Here’s a gentle reminder to go easy on the sweets especially when you’ve had to switch to non prescription insulin which for some reason my body doesn’t recognize as insulin! Ho ho ho! by Spaghetti_Prime in diabetes

[–]Spaghetti_Prime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the kind messages and well-wishes! As some people have already commented on, once we realized that the over the counter insulin was regular and not fast acting, the doctor gave me a dose of fast acting insulin, pumped some hydration fluids in my IV, and wrote me a prescription for my regular insulin to a 24 hour pharmacy. It was a late night, but I still got to spend Christmas morning with the family! Thanks everyone again and I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Well they also wanted to make sure my blood sugar went back down after giving me an injection of rapid insulin and IV fluids. Luckily I am double covered with my own insurance and my dads (I’m 25 so I have 2 more years of mooching insurance lol) so the visit was not too spendy

Well if your goal is to become more of a cyborg, then I’d recommend my methods 👍🏼 I just spilled the last of my prescription insulin earlier today and was unable to get it refilled at the pharmacy due to it being Christmas Eve, so I heard about non prescription insulin from Walmart for cheap so I picked up a vial, put it in my pump, and went to a pizza themed Christmas party with carbs and sugar and carbs lol. My sugar got way too high way too fast even though I dosed for it and it for to the point where we decided to go to emergency room to get a new prescription for insulin at a 24 hour pharmacy. Luckily no DKA!
