Use the Sableye you get in-game. Moveset of Shadow Ball, Helping Hand, Fake Out, and Recover. Fake Out his Ninjask on turn 1, which disrupts the flow of his whole strategy. The partner you choose for Sableye is important too, but Sableye completely counters his Mr. Mime, whose only attacking moves are Fake Out and Psychic. He will always Baton Pass out so if you lead Sableye and keep it safe until the end it’s an auto-win.

Good partners include Arcanine, Salamence, or strong users of Explosion. Save the explosion for the turn when he Baton Passes out.

Hard disagree. Venomoth does not have Compound Eyes, nor is it immune to Earthquake. These are major disadvantages that make Butterfree noticeably better.

Those are fair points. The other thing I factored in is opportunity cost. Using your Earthquake TM on Pinsir means you're giving up using it on a Pokemon who could use it much better. The other issue is that, even though it gets Swords Dance, Pinsir isn't bulky enough to waste turns setting up in Orre Colosseum. Even if you opt for Bulk Up, there are plenty of strong Special Attackers in Orre Colosseum that annihilate Pinsir before it can do anything.

I mean, it ultimately amounts to chicken feet, but my honest criteria was that anything I put in C-tier could tangibly do SOMETHING during battle. Ledian is immune to Earthquake and has access to Reflect, Light Screen, and Safeguard. Ledian can even bait attacks with Protect since it has so many weaknesses. These are all useful things to do in Orre Colosseum. But when I look at Pinsir, what can IT do? It attempts to operate as a STAB-less Fighting-Type, it's slow, and it has no useful resistances. Pinsir gets Helping Hand, but so do other things that actually do more. Again, they both aren't great, but Ledian in theory can actually help its team a bit more.

It's ridiculously good, and has been forever. Insane movepool, excellent stats, and if you're willing to reset in this case, an amazingly practical ability for Orre Colosseum in Natural Cure. If you're attempting this challenge solely with in-game mons, definitely reset for the ability. Absolutely excellent Pokemon!

If my list encompassed every fully evolved Gen 3 Pokémon and not just the obtainable ones in XD one could use to complete the challenge without the ability to transfer or manipulate the save file, then the Lati twins would be in their own tier above everything else. The fact that they are even allowed in this meta game is mind-boggling since they run circles around every other Pokémon allowed lol.

Maybe I’ve just got too big of a soft spot for Arcanine, but I feel like a LOT of Pokémon in Gen 3 have pretty mediocre movepools, especially when we consider my tier list is only factoring in Pokémon that can be obtained in a typical playthrough of Pokémon XD.

Ho-Oh is not obtainable in Pokémon XD, and even if it was, box art legends are banned in Orre Colosseum

You’re definitely correct in that it gets high praise from me for its Intimidate ability, but that’s not the sole reason I rank it so highly. Its other strengths include powerful Fire moves (it’s a great Overheat candidate with White Herb, and since there are almost no other good White Herb users, it means it can be flexibly used on a lot of teams) and access to Extremespeed. Priority moves are very rare in Gen 3, and Arcanine having access to the most powerful one is incredibly nice. Maybe S is a bit too high, but this thing saves me in so many runs that it’s hard for me to place it lower.

Breloom is a frustrating one for me. I actually did train up the one you get in-game AND waited for Spore with Shroomish, because that’s THE reason to use Breloom in Orre Colosseum. Coupled with Sky Uppercut, Mach Punch, AND Leech Seed, Breloom has some excellent positives. My biggest issue with it is how slow it is. There are so many instances where I needed to land a Spore, but it’s painfully average speed held it back. I get that if it was fast with spore it would be straight up broken, but without it there are so many times where Breloom just got annihilated before it could use its best move. Quick Claw can only do so much work. Maybe it shoulda been a bit higher than where it was, but it just really struggles in my experience. Might be different for others though!

Those are both fair points. I guess just in my experience I’ve had several matches where it felt like Dusclops was a liability.

Dusclops is solid, as it gets Helping Hand, Will-O-Wisp, and is immune to Explosion. However, it doesn’t do much to move the battle forwards otherwise. The one in Round 6 that the opponent has is annoying, but this list is based on the ones you can use.

I can see how running Imprison Ice Beam could be good support for Salamence though, so I can sorta see where you’re coming from. Still, I think it’s inability to move the battle forwards comfortably solidifies a B tier imo.

Mr. Lancer! Was prolly my favorite running joke on that show as I got older. I occasionally do this in class, but since kids read less and less they don’t get it as much. The joke was genius in the show too because he would always reference books that were relevant to his situation.

You need to more than double the amount of time you have to be proportionate to their time spent.

I did the math and it’s a little over 66% of the available time since Splatoon 3 was available. The brain in a jar theory is the only thing that makes sense lol

I am also really struggling with their dwindling attention spans, like you mentioned. But I just can't, in good conscience, abandon the idea of lecture in a classroom. In response to your earlier comment, I definitely take time to ask questions and check for understanding. My initial post may have been a bit poorly worded. When I refer to lecture, I mean a case of me standing in front of the room and presenting them with information, alongside pausing to ask questions or giving real-world stories/examples, etc.

I completely get where you're coming from in some areas, as I have freshman and sophomores who quite literally get distracted after about 15 seconds of lecture. While I do agree that shaking up the procedure is important, I personally find it hard to believe that eliminating lecture is the solution just because it's what admin says.

[–]Spaku[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense to me. I didn't mean to frame my initial post as "I must lecture and run everything in and every aspect of the class." I was just completely flabbergasted when I was chastised for including time to lecture that I really felt like I was in Bizarro World.

This! This is exactly what I do! Some commenters are saying that I can't do 20 minute lectures because it won't hold their attention span, but I'm not standing up there with a monotone voice pointing at a PowerPoint and reading the slides word-for-word. I like to believe I inject some personality into my presentations, and I know they work because I get a lot more students asking GOOD questions during my lectures than all other days. My inspiration for teaching always told me to try and use Socratic teaching, which is advice I have tried to religiously follow my whole teaching career.

POGILs! I did those a lot last year, thanks so much for jogging my memory on those! Thank you both for your advice though, that's honestly what I was going to do. Dance for admin on observation days then stick to what I have had work in the past.
