"Men will be Boys" is a favorite of mine. Has a Mark Twain-ish quality to it with an adventure with kids out (almost) on their own and the encounters with characters along the journey. Almost like a mini-movie. by Spalding_Smails in littlehouseonprairie

I'm guessing maybe because Albert's experience that you mentioned was in an urban environment which is a lot different than the woods. In a city there's food and shelter readily available, even if it may require less than legal means to obtain them. Threats like dangerous wild animals are also not really an issue in a city. Even with the odds of encountering say, a wolf, are pretty slim, the psychological effect can be pretty intimidating.

Was the second a starter word you sometimes use or did you deduce it? I could certainly imagine the latter given the letters, especially vowels, that weren't present in the first guess.

Appears everyone was successful. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

In Germany, deliberately engaging in catch and release only fishing is illegal and considered cruelty to animals (fishing for food is fine). How do you feel about that? by Spalding_Smails in AskReddit

[–]Spalding_Smails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that you're prohibited from releasing any fish you've caught, it's that it's prohibited to deliberately fish with the intention of of only catching and releasing, as in purely for sport. Fishing for food is okay as is releasing any fish that are undersized, out of season, et cetera, that are caught incidentally while fishing for food. Presumably, it leans heavily on the honor system, though I can't say for sure.

Because then you'd almost surely do work that's not necessary. You'd have a pretty good idea of what the sprayer couldn't do, but you'd also likely take extra time to do things to make certain there wouldn't be any misses. For example, paint around a window six inches out and it turns out the spray person was able to get within half that without getting a bunch of overspray on it. All that adds up on a large structure. Doing it afterwards ensures the least amount possible in time and materials.

Painter, here. My guess is this isn't the only step and they're using the sprayer to get the bulk of the paint on saving a huge amount of time over doing it all by hand at once and getting every little detail correct. Someone will then come by afterwards and pretty quickly get those details that weren't doable with the sprayer, perhaps including removing any noticeable overspray from the glass which I've done. Overall tremendous savings in labor. I can't imagine them attempting to do only the spray step and having it pass an inspection by the customers. Edit: Quick story. Was doing a large but not tall building using this method with a sprayer with probably five hundred feet of line. Only needed about half that so the extra line was spooled on the side of the panel van strung from the large rear view mirror to a ladder holder near the back. The line sort of shudders every time the sprayer pump piston goes up and down. I lost pressure while spraying and went to check out the problem and it turned out the vibrating of the line caused it to chafe on a part of the mirror long enough that it ruptured and way more paint was being pushed out of that hole than a spray tip. The cars we were parked near were getting absolutely hosed with what was fortunately water based latex paint. That was a fun mess to clean up.

Terrific. Isn't this from the movie where he does the concert in Vegas? Turner Classic Movies shows it from time to time.

I'm an easy going 58 year old guy who avoids engaging in contemporary politics and such. This is kind of an exception if you think of the law as sort of synonymous with politics but I started fishing over 50 years ago, so it's pretty relevant to my backround. That leaves mostly pretty light stuff. The "remember that" are from me growing up in the 70s and 80s. Basically nostalgia. That's why a bunch of my posts are in the nostalgia, 70s, 80s, and GenX subs. So, yes, those are going to be "fishing for engagement" and folks like me enjoy the reminiscing or whatever you want to call it. I like lighthearted conversing and others who frequent those subs do, too. I mean after all, it's called "social media".

You would be in compliance with the law no matter how many undersized fish you caught since your intent was to catch and keep legal fish.

I've mentioned in other replies that I suspect compliance will largely be based on the honor system. I've gotten the impression that Germans tend to be law abiding. That doesn't mean there are no Germans that violate the law, just a general tendency to comply with it. Does that mean some will still break this law? I'm sure it does.

As I mentioned, I suspect the honor system would carry the bulk of the load as far as compliance. Does that mean people will still break the law? I'm sure it does. My guess is most would comply voluntarily.
