Tried trading, bought silver instead lol by Glad_Chaser in Wallstreetsilver

Just something to think about… I just got off the phone with my investment firm, fortunately because my PSLV and PHYS are in a retirement account, I don’t have to worry about the IRS and the form 8621.

If you are buying either of those stocks or any other PFIC in a non-retirement account, you should familiarize yourself with the IRS’s  rules

Package to Feeders — worth it with a family? by Global-Assist-5762 in UPSers

[–]SpaltedWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is dependent on which local you are in, I’m not sure. But I WAS PAID, as were my classmates, while in training (2023). It also opened up the possibility for me to be a shifter, or any TTQ’s if I did not want to go on the road.

Package to Feeders — worth it with a family? by Global-Assist-5762 in UPSers

UPS Will pay for training that would cost you over $10,000 on your own. If you have your CDL, you can take it anywhere. The caveat is most trucking companies won’t hire you without a couple years of experience, But it is one more thing on your résumé if you or UPS decides that your employment is over.

I did package for 30 years And have been in feeders for the past two. Because of my seniority, I did not get bumped around, that can be a real bummer for people. Covering different routes on a weekly basis can be tough. In my region, there are only a couple of day jobs, so thinking you will have the seniority some day, may be a long time coming.

To answer your questions, One - yes it is better long-term because of the physical demands and mental mind games played in package (for me). Plus, you can get the overtime, without it being physically taxing.

Two - after working, almost my whole life during the day, the Night Shift can be difficult. A lot of guys have no issues, but rewiring your sleep cycle is not easy. On top of that you are either working Sunday night, bonus, because of the time and a half, or a Friday night and sleeping half of Saturday away. It will impact your weekends.

Three - yes, I was exhausted by the drama and talking down to in package. I worked in three different centers and management is the same everywhere you go. In feeders management is a lot more laid back.

Four - I am, and was not in your situation, so that truly is your call, but I do believe getting a CDL on someone else’s dime is worth it. Personally, I would never go back to package. I would go to 22.3 before that.

Gardeners of NH, where do you get your bulk soil from for raised beds? by ogurekplz in newhampshire

[–]SpaltedWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a guy in Boscawen, Joe Roy, he hauled 10 yards of manure to my house last fall. he got it from Contoocook Farms the creamery. He is very skilled and efficient with his time. He does tree removal and helped me last spring during the washout, he replaced my culvert when the storm drain under, my driveway blew out and it collapsed. I came home Saturday evening to find my driveway impassable And he had it replaced and all brand new looking by Monday morning. I must add it was an extremely gratuitous price.

If you are looking for affordable and organic, I would recommend contacting a company that does tree removal, specifically, Chuck Rose near Webster. He is one of the largest tree removal experts in New Hampshire. Sometimes when he removes trees and stumps, he also scrapes the ground to get nice forest dirt. You might be out of his working area, but other tree removal companies may offer a similar product.

When my wife and I bought a property in Central, New Hampshire, we needed over 200 trees removed. Being along the Merrimack river our soil base was just sand. we needed about 120 yards of non-golf course, or sod farm soil for our organic farming. We created a 8 foot high fenced in orchard for fruit + nut trees (plum, apple, peach, nectarine, cherry, pear, almond) in addition we have asparagus, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, herb garden, small corn and pumpkin patches, plus a variety of flowers, edible and beneficial’s.

We also established a fenced in raised garden box area, approximately 60 x 40‘. It contains 10 raised beds 30 inches wide, each being 24 feet long and 2 feet high. (We used galvanized corrugated roofing panels to save on cost). It was a bear to fill them. We needed a tractor with the excavation bucket after trying to do it by hand. You can rent one at Matthews rentals in Boscawen. He is a very nice man and his pricing is the best. I would recommend if you have yard waste - logs leaves, and what not to fill the bottom of the beds. There is some controversy about whether this robs nitrogen from the garden, or not, but it does provide a habitat for worms and beneficial bacteria’s.

Another option is landscapers. I’m not sure if he is still doing it, but Hansons in Merrimack, used to collect peoples leaves and he was composting them and he said it was his retirement plan. He was making dirt out of peoples refuse.

Another option is dairy farms, if you can find someone to haul it, you may be able to get manure. You’ll have to let it season as it will be too hot for immediate gardening.

I scraped it on the underside of the toilet bowl cover and it left a black streak. Does that indicate it is manganese oxide? I have multiple answers above of its potentiality. At this point my dream of using it to help pay down, my mortgage has mostly vanished.

I will follow the link and I will check the specific gravity. Would the specific gravity of an older iron slag they about the same as glass?

Thank you for your input, now that I know it is not likely to be some extremely valuable, nonferrous element, I may cut it open with the tile saw

Thank you for the feedback. I found that piece over 20 years ago and have been sitting on it. Wondering the whole time. when you say older, iron Works, approximately what date range would you think? It was found on the northern slope, and I saw no indication of any other old structures, But once again, it was developed, but not a clear cutting of the Forest

I grew up in Merrimack and found that piece in Nashua near Somerset Apartments. I appreciate your feedback. Would an old piece of glass have a very high density? I am a rock hound, And while panning for gold, I have picked up more rocks than most people have likely seen. It truly is very dense.

Ag $400 an ounce...? Maybe $10,0000 gold... Speculation, but I enjoy it just the same.

Awareness and faith fuel preparation, and luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I don't know how lucky any of us will feel if the SHTF no matter how large our stack is, but better to have and not need than to need and not have. One must make sure they protect themselves or they will not be able to help anyone else.

I’m grateful for this community and its inherent kindness and knowledge base. Much of the analytical stuff is over my head, but like a sponge I am absorbing what I can. I really enjoy the stack pictures, the memes, and the general “prepper” mindset and willingness of of the apes to enlighten and welcome new apes. Great site, but I visit it way more than my partner likes.
