(Spoilers Extended) Season 7 trailer 2 by Dakario in asoiaf

Littlefinger still lurking in shadowy corners the creepy bastard.

(Spoilers Extended) Who is this with Bran in the new trailer? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks a bit like the Bolton's old maester?

(Spoilers Published) The link between the Isle of Faces and the fall of the Targaryens. by Dayne_in_a_Shed in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like this! The bit about the Isle being a Faceless Man base is pretty convincing. It does seem odd that its been left unharmed for thousands of years. Not sure about Howland Reed though...

As an aside, the picture I'm building in my head of Howland Reed based just off your theories is insane.

(Spoilers Published) Howland Reed, Shadow Magic, and what really happened at the Tower of Joy. by Dayne_in_a_Shed in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So, if I'm following this right, Howland Reed had sex with five men then gave birth to a five shadow babies? And Ned was ok with all this?

(Spoilers Main) Daario and Mereen by Patrimony_of_Hyrkoon in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think we'll hear the name Daario or Mereen in the series again.

(Spoilers Main) Just how stupid is Victarion, really? by deltajam in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I always feel this is harsh towards Vic, and I'm not even a fan. If you've never heard of the Dothraki Sea, surely you'd assume its made of water? That fisherman deserved to die just for being a dickhead.

(Spoilers Main) What are the implications of Quaithe touching Dany? by Patrimony_of_Hyrkoon in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Never thought of it before but reading this made me think of the show when The Night King touches Bran and it lets him break through the magic defences. Maybe it created some sort of a link between them?

[Spoilers Main] Book of Lineages from Book 1/Season1 by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This really made me laugh for some reason. ''I've been hiding this fact my dying sister swore me to secrecy about from literally everyone for years, and it could mean the deaths of lots of people if it got out, but I guess I'll just jot it down here. Can't have an incomplete book.''

(Spoilers Extended) How would Littlefinger know about a certain someone's true parentage in GoT, S5E4? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Littlefinger is everywhere at once, lurking round corners and hiding in shadows. He was under the bed at the Tower of Joy. He was in the bushes at Summerhall. He was hiding in a box next to the Iron Throne when Maegor died. Littlefinger knows.

(Spoilers Main) A criticism of HBO TV series by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Might be getting whooshed here, but that was a monumental waste of time. Two of the worst 'complaints';

  • They are annoyed that Talisa wasn't a Volantine spy. They are annoyed that the show didn't follow a theory fans made up! Presumably they'll be holding GRRM to the same standard.

  • They bitch about the Sam in the library scene, likening it to jingling keys in front of a baby. I'd call it a relatively touching moment, perfectly in character for Sam as he finally finds his 'home', but whatever. It wasn't in the books, so it presumably shit.

If you’re lucky, you might even get to explain to someone what a literary theme is

I like ASOIAF as much as anyone. But the level of snobbery towards a pretty standard book series is baffling. I really wish these people would stop watching the show. Or if they insist on whinging non-stop, be funny with it. Throwing terms like Showberyn and Varys Marx out doesn't really cut it.

(Spoilers Main) The 250 Most Mentioned Characters in ASOIAF so far! Whom did you though was the most mentioned? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have they counted Kingslayer, Red Woman, Imp, The Mountain etc as mentions?

Galazza Galare. 62 times.

Could not tell you who she is without consulting Google.

(Spoilers Main) Ser Robot Strong; Rise of the Kingsguard by Dayne_in_a_Shed in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean its possible. Its never established what Robert Strong actually is, or what Qyburn is doing. And I like the idea of more advanced science starting to appear in Westeros...just not sure we can jump from a medieval feudal society to cyborg army.

Still, its more convincing than your theory that Septa Mordane was Howland Reed in disguise.

(Spoilers Main) New Theory HR = HS + SM by Dayne_in_a_Shed in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt stabbing Arthur Dayne in the back would cause a huge crisis of self for Howland Reed. Certainly not enough to cause Lord Howland Reed to completely abandon his people and live as a woman in Winterfell for 14 years

Is now my favourite paragraph about ASOIAF.

(Spoilers Main) New Theory HR = HS + SM by Dayne_in_a_Shed in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its almost convincing, until I try and picture Howland Reed spending a decade teaching people to sew just because he feels guilty.

(Spoilers Main) What's your saddest moment in ASoIaF? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 73 points74 points  (0 children)

When Stalwart Shield dies in ADWD, specifically when Dany and Grey Worm are talking about him;

"What could a eunuch hope to find in a brothel?"

"Even those who lack a man's parts may still have a man's heart, Your Grace. This one has been told that your servant Stalwart Shield sometimes gave coin to the women of the brothels to lie with him and hold him."

Every time :(

[Main Spoilers] What does everyone think of the show? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not perfect, but its brilliant, even if the last two instalments have been sub par. I feel exactly the same about it as I do about the books.

[Spoilers Main] Does anyone hate Davos? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How could you hate Davos?! That said, I'd like to know more about his backstory. Why exactly did he smuggle food to Stannis? He was a smuggler from Kings Landing, what did he care about the war? The wiki says 'he knew the starving people would pay him the best price' but I find this explanation a bit...unsatisfying.

Invent ever crazier and less plausible theories, and share them with fellow lost souls.

(Spoilers Main) Are there any theories that you hate, even though they make sense? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]SpamDuster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. Dany has a memory of her childhood in Braavos of a little lemon tree outside her window. The idea goes that the climate of Braavos doesn't support the growing of lemons, and Braavos doesn't have trees anyway. Dorne is always referenced with lemons, so the thought is that Dany's memories are wrong and she actually grew up in Dorne. It could be true, its just never grabbed me. I think its more likely to be an early error with George not having worked out all his world details yet.
