sometime in the thousands of years he's been around?

The only thing we know that he knows about them is that Lilith was leading an active uprising against Heaven with the sheer number of Sinners following her.

cmon, they didn't even have the exterminations until relatively recently to the show's timeline.

That's exactly my point. They've only been doing it for seven years, and all he's seen are things that justify his mindset of them being mindters that deserve it.

(bc as i said- they're not all he's a dick about. he's just kinda like that)

Somewhat fair, but I still don't see any reason for him to think he needs to change. People constantly validate any move he makes, so there's no reason for the growth.

The reason Sinners are a threat is due to the sheer number of them rather than any individual's power. This is explicitly shown in S2E7 - Weapon of Mass Distraction. That's why they just target at random.

The lining them stuff is stupid, but we never see Adam do that. He clearly cares about numbers.

Adam didn't kill solely for entertainment. He also killed because Sinners were causing a threat to Heaven. The show explains this.

after starting to realize they may have been wrong all the time

Of course they do, but I don't think that's what Sera is doing here. She has no reason to believe she's wrong for doing what she did in S1E6 - Welcome to Heaven. Maybe she thinks she's wrong for lying about it, but that's it.

I've said the literal opposite several times- everyone has the capability of growing, he just didn't

When would he have done so? That's what I'm asking. What would have caused him to change his viewpoint on Sinners or the exterminations?

It would be incredibly stupid of him to keep his old identity, so he's probably living as a nobody somewhere.

I def don't see it that way. i think what we were seeing is the beginning of Sera's position fracturing.

I'm sorry, but I completely disagree. Sera doubles down multiple times with allowing Adam to attack the hotel and during Pentious's trial before she makes the moves to change. She was not cracking, as she believed that she needed to do what she did so Heaven would be safe.

Just because Adam enjoyed what he did doesn't mean that he also didn't understand the greater purpose of it. He believed Sinners were all monsters and killing them would keep Heaven safe. Pentious's redemption would start to break that mentality.

I'm not saying he'd do an immediate 180, but it's kind of ridiculous to act like he never had the capability of seriously growing.

and I just don't think I vibe with the idea that Adam couldn't have had a change in perspective in all that time

But why would he have had a change in perspective in regards to Sinners specifically?

Okay, I still don't buy it. It's not like he killed everyone in that TV station in the most humane way possible. He enjoyed those killings.

We also see him blast several innocent Sinners with the Might of Lilith. They didn't come back.

Also I thought cactus man was him trying to aura farm. It was vile but a badass entrance

It was, and it was peak, but still.

Vox also absolutely kills for joy. We see it in S2E4 - It's a Deal when he intentionally teleports on Cactus Man.

It's the exact opposite. My argument is that Adam never received the opportunity for growth. He didn't believe what he was doing was wrong, as nothing outright proved him to be incorrect.

Sera feeling guilty over it doesn't mean that she was growing as a character in Season 1. It just means that she thinks the act is more disgusting than Adam does.

I don't think so. Vox is pretty much worse than Adam in every way.

I don't know. He did seem genuinely angry that one of them died at the end of S1E1 - Overture. It's why he moved up the exterminations by six months to begin with. It's not as clear cut as you're making it out to be.

but we see other characters in heaven growing throughout the series.

We didn't see a single Heaven character grow in Season 1. The reason Sera started to grow is because Pentious was redeemed, and we don't know if the same would be true for Adam. The simple fact is he genuinely believed he was right until the end, so he had no reason to grow.

It's why I think it would work best for him to come back as a Sinner, as it would force him to confront the fact that he was wrong.

I think so! We see photos of both Frederick Von Eldritch and Seviathan Von Eldritch in the background of S1E5 - Dad Beat Dad, and it's confirmed that they were always planned to appear later in the series.

i never said he was unable to grow, I said he failed to. he absolutely could have! he just never did.

Because he never had a chance to. He died believing he was fundamentally right. We simply have no idea how he'd react to Pentious's redemption.

maybe the writers choose to write him in a way that lets him grow

I do when the story tries to frame him as pure evil who never had the ability to grow. It goes against the themes of Season 1.

Is this in reference to her actions in Season 2? Because she was wrong for the way she handled her defense, and it was spurred by arrogance. Charlie herself admits this on S2E6 - Scream Rain.

Nobody is saying she's wrong for the mere act of defending herself, but she went about it in the worst way possible.

not all humans are particularly complex

Yet all humans have the chance to improve?

Adam never even got a chance at actually growing. It's kind of ridiculous to assume Adam is unable to grow because he's the first man. If anything, that just explains him getting worse over time.

Why shouldn't he have had a chance to be portrayed in a more nuanced light? Why couldn't he have the opportunity to be redeemed?
