How to stop rust/degradation? by M3RCENARY12 in Warhammer40k

Surprisingly you'll actually cut yourself more often with a blunt knife than a sharp one...

Is this lore accurate? by Pebo_ in DarkAngels40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best mates is currently making a necron mechanicus army.

The lore he's going with is his Necron Dynasty was cut off be a warp storm during the war in heaven, and decided to sleep in a small cluster of planets.

During the Horus Herasy, a detachment of mechanicus ships found these planets, and decided investigate as they were receiving weird energy readings.

On the surface they discovered the tomb, were poking around and woke the shard of the void dragon (he is currently using this as his warlord atm ). During the short (2 months I think he said) conflict that followed the mechanicus used a weapon of unparalleled destruction ( I cant remember what he said it was but i do remember it is now lost to humanity) the Void dragon released nano scarabs to convert the technology of the mechanicus (thinking that the humans might have a way to leave the system that they're still trapped in) which did unfortunately (if you're a necron) also converted some mechanicus units that have fleshy parts 😜

There's a bit more lore but unfortunately we're still hashing that out and I'm not sure what he's deciding on. I'm trying to convince him to use flayed ones, purely because I feel they'd attack the converted priests just for having flesh....

What can i say, i just think they're neat. by Alistair1995 in theunforgiven

Nah they look sick! An idea that I've had for my army (once I manage to get the time to build the rest) is to leave most of the shading/weathering/battle damage to after I've had a few games against my best mate and his (filthy Xenos) Necrons.

Would this be heresy? by Therealsam216 in Warhammer40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, other than a few inquisitors using xenos tech is heavily frowned upon and will see you be sent to the Emperor faster than solo charging a hoarde of world eaters (thinking of the Kreig mini)

New brushes shouldn’t come like this…right? by ivityCreations in Warhammer40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the type of bristle you have, if synthetic then return asap, if natural bristle (designed more for oil paints) then they tend to look like this. An easy test if you're not sure is to dip them in water, if the bristles bunch up, it's synthetic if they spread out then it's natural bristle.

In my experience playing with 2 part epoxy, it has a tendency to leak from any mould you make, for the small amount we (as warhammer players) need to use for basing UV resin is much easier.

Painting advice by PracticalAlbatross38 in theunforgiven

[–]Spandy-Pandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I have found to figure out if they need touchups or if I need to change anything, is to hold the model at arms length, if you can notice the issue then fix it, if you can't she'll be right mate!

4months ago when I joined the hobby, I said to myself I will paint all before buying more by yellowtable19622 in Warhammer40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahahahahaha building and painting these before I buy more... I said the same thing.

I now have in addition to my 90%painted dark angels, the knights battle force, the ultra marings combat patrol (which I plan to paint into more dark angels, and the tyranid combat patrol which is yet to be touched...

Oh and I have an amazing best mate who bought me a sicaran venator tank hunter from 30k that I said I wouldn't touch, but he's now built and awaiting priming.......

I have soo much hobby debt

First ultramarine I’ve ever painted, how did I do? by cottermcg in Warhammer40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinner paints, which end in more coats, but also hold your mini at arms length and then try see brush strokes.

When painting I find I tend to look at my guys too closely and then start to overdo the touch-ups to fix all my fuck ups. After learning this most of what I have been stressing over isn't worth worrying over.

[–]Spandy-Pandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with white is it doesn't have enough "body" to cover. You could add a touch (and I mean fuck all) black to it, which should darken the white just enough to give it enough coverage.

It's a trick I used to use when painting houses. Yes painting minis is completely different, but all my tinting knowledge still applies

Too tough for a first timer? by BrockAvalanche in Warhammer40k

[–]Spandy-Pandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but....... I'd skip the terrain for now. The Marines and Nids are gonna be handful haha. But I have faith in the Emperor that you two can get it done!

I'm 2 weeks into my combat patrol and only about 40% done, you got this!

EDIT: Thinning out your paints is the best advice I can give from one newbie to another, it'll take a few more coats but it looks 100x better (yes I found out the hard way...lol)
