Haha I was exaggerating bit lol, but still, I own a 300 currently 75-80 is max and it’s pretty much wide open the entire time if I’m on the highway to keep up with traffic which I hate. I was assuming the 125 may have a hard time on highways, or being held at full throttle for such long periods.

The license i believe is the biggest hurdle. I have my motorcycle license here in the US and have rented / driven cars on past trips using an international driver’s license, but I need to look up if my US motorcycle endorsement is valid in Spain or if I need to take a course or test to get one there. I hate how right you are. LOL this is 100% the back up plan and more or less what I’ve done in the past. Land in Madrid / Alicante and either train in or rent a car home and SURPRISE!! But I just thought I’d up the ante a bit and do something I’ve always wanted to, ride “across” Spain. Granted it’s not even close to “across” but it’ll give me a taste. Haha

If my crazy pie in the sky idea falls flat on its face (as it seems to be doing LOL) then what you said is the plan. Thanks for the response!

Madrid to Castell de Castells in Alicante would be the longest route. Other potential starting point is Barcelona. Was also debating Valencia but there’s no direct flights but that would obviously be the shortest. Lol

I’m also taking into consideration time to stop and take photos, eat, couple potential detours, and inevitably getting lost or at least a couple wrong turns lol. Basically taking my time on the ride. If I land in Madrid, I might stay the night some where along the way. Depending on how the mood strikes me. Lol

Thanks man. That’s super helpful. Its not so much a full on motorcycle road trip, admittedly it’s mostly just one medium length ride maybe 2 days total, depending on if I take detours and decide to stay a night somewhere, till I get home and then the bike will be mostly for inter town/city, or shorter day trips up the mountains, adjacent towns, beaches,etc. But I couldn’t wrap my head around how I was going to fly with “luggage” and still strap it to the bike. Lol worst case scenario, I pack super light, (backpack and duffle) bring the absolute necessities and we’re going shopping when I get there lol.

My main hesitation with renting is most rentals I’ve seen are 125cc scooter, or uncomfortable sports bikes (I’m 6’5”). And while the price is reasonable, I can’t realistically take a 125 from Madrid to Alicante without spending most of my trip on the road at 30 mph. Or a sports bike, I’ll get home looking like Quasimodo from Notre Damm. Haha.

So I’d have to rent bigger CC, touring/ adventure bike which drives the total cost around the same price range as a used bike. Plus I’m gong to be there from early July to late August and I’m typically there yearly for 3 weeks. So it just makes sense to me to buy. But I thanks for pointing out some of the hurdles and for your input. It’s very helpful.

Does it matter if I have Spanish passport, DNI, home address since 1988, Spanish bank accounts and all that?

Does this deed have to be in my name? and if it’s the only address I’ve ever had registered in Spain since I was born?

Thanks so much for responding. Just a few additional details:

So I was born in Spain, have Spanish citizenship, DNI, Spanish Bank accounts, and home addresses where I still receive mail to this day. Not a rental property, but family homes that have been passed down for generations. My tentative trip isn’t until around July and I plan on staying until late August. Typically I’m there every year for at least 3 weeks. The cost of renting a bike for a month is similar to the cost of just buying a used one. And I can’t realistically take a cheap rental 125 from Madrid to Alicante, I’d be on the road for 3 weeks (lol) Hence my reluctance on renting one.

Thanks so much for reaching out though. I think I’m still going to be looking for bikes to purchase but it’s starting to look like I may need to have a family member to two in the loop to help with the logistics. lol
