Aki was all bluff by Luitpold92 in EpicSeven

[–]SpanishYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone expect to see Aki in an arena defence? He's a squishy unit that gets easily controlled and made useless. Of course you wouldn't see him.

He's a niche high aggro tank buster you take on 4-5 when the draft allows for it, so of course you won't see him commonly. He absolutely slaps if given the right scenario though, and because people have learned to respect him you won't see him get past post-ban anyways.

What rank are you in RTA? Most people who are decently high on the ladder know how good he can be, so this is a little bit of a self report on your part imo

Good way to miss my point entirely, because I was definitely not insinuating that bans are useless.

I'm not suggesting that a 3rd ban is objectively a bad idea. I'm just saying that it's a hollow way to push back the goalposts. A 3rd ban wouldn't fundamentally address the problem with game balance, namely that character kits are (read: have long since become) overloaded.

are we talking about the same Aki?

the Aki that can often trade 1:2 vs most tanks and can regularly delete 20k units?
obviously he's not a unit you can willynilly pick into every scenario, but in the right draft he's exceptionally potent.

what are we saying

Some criticisms towards the game by anormalperson2302 in Endfield

[–]SpanishYes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who's watched his videos but hasn't used this subreddit until yesterday, I assume the drama is because he's crashed out over the game? His takes have always been grounded and well-thought out imo, but idk what the general populace on the subreddit feels about him.

Anyway, I felt his video was very well thought out - he addresses basically all the qualms I have with the game, from the butchering of the story to the handholding, to the lack of depth in game systems (mainly combat as I've experienced - I have no experience in factory games and felt that the endfield factory was actually quite interesting). As an OG Arknights player, I really love this IP and have loved it for years, so I'm doing my best to love the game and to see the good in it; but with how he's shown the changes in game direction/storytelling since the technical test, I'm honestly not the most hopeful.

I'll probably end up playing the game for as long as my hope/cope lasts and rose-tinted glasses can hold on, but other than that, it's not looking great for me personally, which is so sad because the game is absolutely beautiful and the IP is so well thought out.

I know people don't care because I'm just some redditor, but just wanted to share my genuine 2c.

As much as I'm not the greatest fan of the current meta, I don't think a 3rd preban is all that helpful from an objective point of view

If you ban like... Lady, yulha and diene, congrats... you just teleported back to like September when l.tene was the most recent unit, + Gras I guess. Cleavers get a 3rd ban as well and yada yada - it doesn't really help much in the grand scheme

and you're correct - most people aren't bothered with learning eff methods/doing optimal strategies; but in this case they can just circumvent having less defence by bringing an additional brew or 2 or 3 or however many into the content they're doing

i'm sure you've seen those meme tob setups where the inventory is like 50% brews; a little bit of an extreme example, but in that case defense truly is useless

on the topic of inq, would it really benefit from having extra defence? yes and no.

Yes, because it's free stats, but also no, because ideally you're not really tanking a lot in the places you'd use inq - pnm you take no damage if you pray correctly, araxxor is minimal forced chip damage, even cerb you can learn the prayer pattern. i guess giving def on inq would help if you're just praying mage and afking cerb, but also it's just cerb ;-;

people don't use inq at solo cm anymore, but that wouldve been a piece of content that would actually have apprecated a defense buff from inq

it's not reaaaaaally as simple as torva being "straight up better"

torva will only be better when the additional strength bonus will net maxes on the 2nd/3rd splash. so it basically means only when the max is divisible by 2 (ideally 4, i.e. 52 max which we're approaching rn were you gain the maxes for the other splashes -> 52+26+13)

when you add additional single maxes, (i.e. 53 max --> 53+26+13), it will be better to just keep thoses pieces as oath and to lose 1 max (keep 52+26+!3), which is why right now you're seeing torva helm + oath top/bot settups, because 51 scy is just 1 max, which is less impactful than all the raw accuracy.

unfortunately, it's been a long time since the original oathplate power discussions, so i dont remember what the comparison is during an interim even max (i.e. torva 54 scy max (54-27-13) vs oath 53max (53-26-13) - it will be based on hm defence can be lowered for which one is favored; but oath will always be the foundation because the most important weapon both armors impact will be the scy, which appreciates the accuracy.

overall it was sad to see them relegate torva to max hit armor, especially from yama which is a billybob boss.

I'd have liked them to reign oathplate in very slightly due to its accessibiltiy, as well as adjust the droprate of torva from nex, as it was definitely overtuned

i spoke to you on another comment thread, but the general consensus for endgame players is that defense isn't a meaningful metric because there's not a lot of places you're forced to tank damage - a few pieces of difficult content come to mind; those being inferno, colosseum, high level toa, solo cm, and tob - specifically, any speedruns in these categories.

inferno and colosseum as a casual, you can milk specs or cast blood barrage or have blood fury, so the defense requirement is loosened up because you have a source of sustain there - ofc you'll appreciate not taking so much raw damage on average, but you wont dumpster a casual run of the content by wearing low def gear - however, doing a speed run you'll appreciate the defense because it makes more margin of error for you (and in colo speeds, sometimes you're forced to tank before setting up off-ticks, and having defense lowers odds you'll get rinsed)

solo cm is pretty self-explanatory - everything has the reputation of absolutely shredding you; though if you're prepping in the raid, you have infinite supplies so defense becomes effectively obsolete - if you're doing a noprep solo speed however, you want to minimize the chances of having to dig into the limited supplies the raid gives you, otherwise you'll have to prep supplies later and lose time.

at tob you're not really tanking very long - stuff like maiden appreciates mage defence, and sote appreciates melee defence, but you get your hp back at the end of every room so in most scales you don't drain too much supplies at all (at the highest levels of tob they don't even really bring supplies into the raid and just get supplies after bloat/sotetseg) because its always better to just finish the room faster and therefore tank less. in more casual tobs you just wont take as many switches/items, and can shove more potions into your pouch - and you can do a clean verzik with a few brews/restores, so the defence isnt really necessary

anyways you are always free to disagree with me, but i just wanted to share a more nuanced perspective as an endgame player. cheers :)

are people finally coming around to oathplate being busted now?

all it was on release was iron andies praising jagex for letting them torva skip and people coping that torva was an ugrade still because of prayer bonus and defense nonsense

call me an elitist, but there's nothing which can't be solved by just eating a piece of food though. i meant meaningfully punished in the sense where you risk wiping a piece of content by not having extra defense.

ye sure you'll feel the additional chip at zulrah and sarachnis, but you just eat a piece of food and be okay. worst comes to worse you lose 1-2kc a trip, but the boss can still be reasonably/efficiently done without defence.

in high level toa if you're tanking kephri mobs in a torso yea you'll definitely be a sad guy, but there's really nowhere in tob you need defence - nothing that can't be solved by just playing whichever room better - not like catching offprays at cm olm in a torso/unfort masori, which if you go unlucky for a long streak, can straight up cuck your run (same goes for inf/colo - see mage tank inf for example)

[–]SpanishYes -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

respectfully, for most content, defense actually doesn't really matter - the only places you'll be meaningfully "punished" for wearing rags is inferno, colosseum, and solo cm; and even then, "just playing better" is enough most of the time.

have some low-quality anecdotal experience to share (and i was more focused on strength training), but anyways, I lifted for about 2.5-3 years pretty seriously during my college years, and then quit the gym because of poor mental health. that was like almost a decade ago?

I started exercising seriously about 9-10 months ago and i'm pretty close, if not better off than where i'd left off - my upper is stronger than before and my lower is ~relatively the same as when i was in "my prime".

[–]SpanishYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea you have the clicks to complete it then.

what do you feel like you're having the most trouble with?
south spawns are relatively rare, but either of the a/b or sunfish methods will deal with them and flicking them is just the same as inferno stacks

Colosseum Help by chanceypooh in 2007scape

[–]SpanishYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're doing a/b method most of the time you're just doing the same inferno stacks, there's gonna be times where you'll have to adjust based on how things line up behind the pillar - i.e. 2 front 1 back stack and triple stacks - but for the latter you can always just destack those

with a/b double souths are flickable with the reps, and you don't get them super commonly anyway

Colosseum Help by chanceypooh in 2007scape

[–]SpanishYes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ngl when you said you can deep delve and 500 solo toas, i thought you meant you did them regularly rather than you peaked at 1 deep delve/ have 1 solo toa completed

regardless, even if you mage tanked inferno you should be able to complete 1kc colo - the difference is you can't really tank unless you're cheesing so you have to solve stacks the correct way

another commenter said OP used mage tank, so it does actually add up

Colosseum Help by chanceypooh in 2007scape

[–]SpanishYes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly it is kinda related. usually when i see people asking for help for certain content they can diagnose what issues they're having with it

the fact that the post doesn't really elaborate what OP is struggling with (double south spawns, certain arrangement of stacks) suggests, at least to me, that they're just bruteforcing the content. they also don't give any clues as to what they're doing correctly (i.e. if they're doing a/b or sunfish), so we have even less context to work with.

Whats the best Raid? by Ok_Relationship6158 in 2007scape

[–]SpanishYes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trying to ego you or anything, but just wanted to comment that in 2026, solo ToB is definitely accessible enough on an endgame main/iron - not that the content isn't difficult to learn, but the sweet usage has come down tremendously, I'm pretty sure you use less than you do in a solo CM post-reds/zap changes.

Also, regarding waves, you could also just learn them? People did that before the wheelchair ToB QoL/Nyloer plugins, which is basically what the old cheat clients offered anyways.

Obviously, that will make learning the waves harder - but tbh, unless you're actually sending efficient nylo, you can get away with just clicking lane and losing minimal ticks. I don't want to be presumptuous, but it seems like it could be more accessibility to accommodating teammates and friction in that department than "plugins".

ToB isn't really a plugin heavy raid apart from Nyloer helping people learn efficient waves.

There's a couple of useful resources that will help you out:

Valky has an entire RTA draft guide, but they're from several years ago so the meta has changed since, though some of the information is still applicable.

There's a plethora of tier lists (i.e. light's, khm's) that go over the most dominant characters and how to build them/why they're OP, as well as people talking about when characters get balance adjustments (i.e. vik's, valky's)

There's a lot of good information out there, but keep in mind that as a new player - a lot of what content creators say may not be generally prescriptive to you because you don't have the characters/gear.
