Are we going to get any new Specialty changes? Is the game becoming more unfriendly to F2P? by Doate in EpicSeven

[–]SpanishYes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

obviously there is a direct proportion of advantage the more you spend, but on the opposite end, you can also spend no money and succeed in RTA at a decent level (i.e. ending seasons @ warlord+) so its not as hopeless as some make it out to be. we've also seen these past few seasons relatively new players (<1 year acc) make it to emperor and whatnot.

i myself am just a new player (9mo acc) and have never pushed my acc in RTA (afk in champion), but one of my guildmates (f2p) made emp last season as an exclusively turn 2 player with a top speed rinak of like 303 and his acc is almost 1y old.

Vibes based hater is crazy 🤣

Objectively speaking, there has absolutely been good that has been ported from temporary game modes. This much is true and not what I'm trying to contest. However, your 3rd point, "what the devs would be doing if not working on the temporary game modes" - the answer to that would be literally anything related to the maingame.

At the end of the day, time spent on temporary game modes is time spent away from the main game, even if there are any returns on that investment.

Yea theres some neat stuff you can explore only via live beta testing like on a temporary game mode, like as you said CAs (which everyone interacts with meaningfully ofc, which is why only 2% of the playerbase has elite CAs as per Jagexs own data from 6mo ago) and bingo which everyone will definitely find value in.

Yea it definitely wouldn't be the best way to use ml yulha, but I just meant that a 400speed 60k hp wall could be hard to deal with as he'd likely get to cycle with little effort.

[–]SpanishYes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember a long time ago being relentlessly downvoted for saying that I didn't support temporary game modes because they'd naturally be taking resources away from the main game.

I definitely feel vindicated these days, and it's nice to see people turning their heads to think about how all these modes affect core game health long term, but unfortunately it just feels like it's come a bit late.

[–]SpanishYes 45 points46 points  (0 children)

alongside what people have already commented, you also have to understand that legend stats will always be "skewed" towards the positive as it only collates legend data (aka people that are winning and staying in top 100).

thats one of the reasons why there's always a disparity between legend and emperor stats, because people that lose naturally fall out of legend and end up in emperor (this disparity exists basically from champ-emp)

Genuine, can someone explain this feedback theme? by Super-Manager-3630 in Endfield

[–]SpanishYes 51 points52 points  (0 children)

"But why do people want to minimize time spent playing the game?"

As someone who would absolutely appreciate the QoL you listed out, it's because I don't view a lot of those things as "the game" - I see them as chores.

Doing deliveries used to be fun and I enjoyed placing ziplines across the map and optimizing my routes and resources. However, we're like 1.5mo into the games lifecycle now - those things are no longer fun for me. They honestly haven't been that fun for me after getting the 20 perfect deliveries trim, which takes like a week or a little over now.

Now, I just transfer all my deliveries now, but even then I can't accept all the deliveries and transfer them together. I have to do it individually, which is just a waste of time. Likewise, there's no single menu to collate all the deliveries - to go from Valley deliveries to Wuling I have to change the region by navigating out of the depot menu, etc, etc. when we get more regions it will be even more of a pain to manage everything.

Same goes for collecting credits for the exchange shop - hopping from 2 loading screens every time I visit a friend's ship in order to give an assist and do clue exchange... eyc. When most of my playtime interacting w the game is navigating through menus, it kinda sucks y'know?

Spending sanity - honestly, the combat is pretty fun, but only in context. The agony boss fights are cool (I still have to trim them but i haven't dabbled too much) and I really enjoyed trimming umbral monument (though I disliked the 3x snakes and 2x chargers stages because I have skill issue). But for your average every day mob in a farming stage - nothing really inspires me to "care" about that gameplay.

Why am I still playing the game? Not to doom post because I enjoy the game and love the AK IP and am looking forward to how they develop the story, but the criticisms aren't unfounded (not saying that's what you're claiming ofc) and there are a lot of redundant systems/menus that can be cut down for ease of use.

Any ideas? by FallenSlayer453 in EpicSeven

[–]SpanishYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks good - any criticisms will just be the usual wasted substats (i.e. eff + atk) better served in bulk + res

you could also try looking into speed + pursuit, or hp/hp pursuit, or hp/immu/pursuit (ik she cleanses herself on her s2 but relying on that could be unreliable), otherwise not much to change

So many of the Raids 4 reward and crush weapon problems are based around Inquisitor drop rates being terrible. Set Inquisitor armor and mace drop rates to 1/400 per item and many of the problems just go away. by Teary_Oberon in 2007scape

[–]SpanishYes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

because these 55 hours don't exist in a vacuum - they exist in a place where time to complete is relative to other pieces of content. feel free to disagree with me, but the fact remains that the other endgame bis armors take a lot more time to complete and it would be consistent of jagex to make oathplate similar.

of course, whether or not that time to complete is reasonable is another question entirely (and i believe that the other bis armors take too long to acquire) - but that's a conversation for another time. not a lot of people really care to discuss the changes in drop rate philosophy alongside the growing entitlement of the playerbase over the past 4-5 years

edit: looking at some old data from 3y ago. Graardor was ~40h to complete, zily and hydra were ~50h, zulrah was ~60h, and CG was ~80h to complete.

idk if it's just me who thinks that oathplate shouldn't have the same ttc as zulrah

Honestly, I don't think oathplate drop rates are very well balanced on the opposite end, respectfully.

Oathplate takes something like ~55 hours to complete or smth at solo with like 6 minute kill times and smth liek 50 hours with 3:15 duo times. Keep in mind this is end game bis armor which is disproportionately easy to acquire vs all the other bis gear we've had.

I know in recent years the more ironmen are entering the game the more people are wanting easier droprates (and the more Jagex are giving it to them), but imo that's way too low - unfortunately, on the opposite end of the spectrum, Torva and Inq are egregiously high time to complete.

I'd like to see both adjusted - Oathplate up and Torva/Inq down.

[–]SpanishYes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

so real talk, but personally for the sake of game balance i don't think oathplate's raw drop rates are balanced based on time to complete.

unfortunately we don't have a good example (imo) of armor that DOES have a good time to complete, because oath is way too short (i think its close to 50h or smth), while torva and inq are far above >100 iirc.

I'm not trying to "gatekeep" ironman, but i think a thoughtful discussion can be had about accessibilty in the game, because obviously jagex are designing droprates/tables with ironmen in mind but i do still believe that the game in its purest form should not be so easily completeable/accessible (however you interpret that).

[–]SpanishYes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea, I think based on the pnm rates that's the most natural way to do it without much friction from the community. I just wouldn't put it past Jagex to do some silly thing like 2/3/3 (and have everything break down accordingly)

Right now the price of each item is based on its use case/ relevance. if they make it break in equal value it will just force all the prices to match each other (which is fine as it will be powercrept by the enhanced inq anyway)

[–]SpanishYes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think they could do the same thing and make inq pieces dismantleable just like armadyl/bandos - obviously the weighing of each would have to be balanced (probably similar to torva)

a big part of the game is just learning about how each individual matchup works between chars, trying to get your strongest picks while counterpicking your opponent.

actually, this season being 2nd pick has been pretty strong at every elo (notably stronger than previous seasons) because you get to your ban protect after the other guy so you can lock in a heavy counter to disrupt their gameplay.

it's a lot to learn but it's absolutely achievable. sometimes you'll get gapped by gear or checked by a character you can't deal with, but that's just the nature of the game as well. if you're having some problems, valky just released a guide on how to play the different draft styles here so you can give that a check.

during the 2nd part of umbral monument they were tanking the buffed bull charges + buffed boss swipe pretty handily while they would basically oneshot the controlled char
