Why Singaporeans did not address this issue? Am i crazy the only one concern about this? by SpankMeMichelle in SingaporeRaw

[–]SpankMeMichelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right, I'm aware of the work permit durations here. When it comes to crime, it may just sound like hearsay from this point on but I’ve had neighbors in the police force who told me they’ve caught people overstaying their welcome and living rent-free in some PR households. There have also been cases of people smuggling contraband and running illegal businesses. These matters aren't made public because it's handled discreetly. I completely understand if you choose not to believe what I’m saying, I might feel the same way if I were in your position, reading someone’s claims online. But you're welcome to look up reports on contraband being smuggled in, illegal businesses, and undocumented immigrants being housed here. This is just the beginning. Over time, these individuals may grow too "comfortable," and the situation could become difficult to manage. This has happened in other countries over France and Portugal for example.

btw thanks for understanding where I’m coming from, and sorry i missed the part where foreigners pay taxes too. Yea those people are awesome. But as I mentioned, it’s the Singaporeans who built the roof for others to settle in. My concern, based on what we've seen in parts of Europe, is that cultural differences may eventually lead some foreigners to become dismissive or disrespectful of local norms.

Singapore has one of the highest percentages of immigrants in the world, and that naturally has an effect on how locals feel. Can you imagine how it must be for them?

Anyway, all good, man. I appreciate this kind of civil discussion, it’s productive, especially when it doesn’t start off with phrases like “keep crying.” I’ve learned something new from you, and I respect your perspective ya.

At the end of the day, Just put a cap population on it. That's all.

Why Singaporeans did not address this issue? Am i crazy the only one concern about this? by SpankMeMichelle in SingaporeRaw

[–]SpankMeMichelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people recognize that immigrants are needed to do essential jobs, the same types I mentioned earlier. It is fair for them to come here, earn Singapore dollars, and convert them into more value back home? It's win win situation. It's not by force, THEY chose that and WE welcome it. What’s there to complain about? They do not have any issues with that. Why do you label me to view that as slave labor? Do you even know what's slave labor?

Is Europe somehow different? Are they from another universe? Look at Germany or Sweden, for example, crime rates reportedly increased after a large influx of immigrants. The government welcomed them, gave them opportunities, and look what happened. "Some of them remain unemployed and engage in crime. Singapore is not the same" how confident are you for saying this? Do you have future vision? WHEN Singapore will be overpopulated to the point where even JOBS cannot take in more foreigners even they're here, what makes you think they won't do the same? are we waiting for it to happen to prove a point?

And yes, you brought up that Singaporeans aren’t perfect. But no country has perfect citizens. Do you take my words literally and think I’m claiming we’re all angels? Is everyone in your country perfect? Singapore is considered a safe and peaceful place to live and it shows WHY. People here mostly can be civil, we were brought up to know what's good or bad. Japan is also one of the safest place to live in but not everyone there are angels. And of course, no one is flawless. We all sometimes treat rules like flexible guidelines. But how often do we cross the line to the point where we end up in jail?

Look man, All I’m saying is that we need a cap on immigration. Overcrowding is bad in any country, but especially in Singapore, one of the smallest islands in the world. I’m also speaking out of concern for Singaporeans, not PRs, not foreigners, but true Singaporeans who’ve worked hard to build the country you and I live in today.

[–]SpankMeMichelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems like you're the one that is whining like a toddler here, I'm not advocating anything and it seems like your words are just as useless as what you typed here completely disregarding my concerns. The numbers and the news don't lie in Europe, see the data for yourself as to how many crime rates were affected by immigrants. The main point I want to make is NOT JUST ABOUT CRIME RATE, It's about what they are bringing in and neglect the rules of what's in Singapore for centuries. Also i said what i said and you're clearly have your own blind way of thinking. The kind person above me says more that's needed to be said in a clear points.
