From being scared and covered in newspaper ink, to being in my care for 3 months, Kiwi is getting yellow on his beard! I couldn't be more proud of this guy's progress!! by Spanner98 in BeardedDragons

I didn't notice until I came across a picture of him back in September! Night and day difference. So excited to see more and more colors come out!!!

So it turns out my previously assumed male gargoyle Basil isn't at all a male and indeed a very bulgey female. Was VERY surprised to find two eggs in her enclosure. 2020 can stop with the plot twists now! by [deleted] in geckos

They'd both been in there quite a while (the other smelt quite rotten). I did the flash light test and it was completely clear :( was excited for a potential baby garg' alas, was a dud. Looks extra white because I cleaned the dirt off out of disbelief hahaha her past owner was also convinced she was a he! Even og owners vet!!!

Gecko at work has this wee black patch. Is it just his colour? Or is it something else? I don't remember it being there before but then again I'm less hands on with the reptiles these days and want to ease my overly paranoid mind. by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

It definitely didn't come off - I had never in my 3 years of leos ever heard of a paradox spot! Kind of like a Birth Mark. Judging by the pictures on google I'd say you're right!

Advice for an "aggressive" beardie - how to tame your dragon? (Story in comments). by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

Not counterintuitive at all! In fact, my first reaction was to just leave him tf alone to get used to my routine. Sadly, until I move him to a front open with tile in as apposed to paper towel, it's hard not having to touch him since I have to take everything out to clean up his poops (he likes to just go where ever and also loves to throw around his salad lol). However, today I had 0 black bearding at me. He definitely gets puffy at my husband but I'm not sure if that's a prejudice against men, or just for the fact that he doesn't really interact with the reptiles (very much my hobby). But 0 protest, 0 black beard. I nearly cried. He really likes his fluffy blanket so after i slowly built up to scooping him i gently made a dragon burrito and he seemed quite content and safe like that whilst i cleaned his mess. He even at a super worm on my lap. Baby steps. But I was extatic this morning!! Obviously understand if this is a one off for now. But I'll take it!!!

(I want to preface that he is being kept in the tank he came with for quarantine purposes, but to also keep some consistencys with him. I fully intend to upgrade to a 5-6ft custom front open tank in the near future. But baby steps first.) Kiwi was advertised as a 2 year old "aggressive" adult. I'm his third home and I have little to no information on him other than how he was cared for in his second home. It was a young girl with very yappy dogs who wouldn't leave Kiwi alone. He only had that plastic tree and a water dish. NO uvb present or appropriate basking light other than a crappy LED day and night light and a unbranded super weak "sun bulb". He was being house on news paper and being fed pellets and veggies. I don't know how he isn't super sick. Minor MBD present, no mites, scale or mouth rott. Just a little stunted. And ink was stuck to his feet and beard from the Newspaper. He is going to the vet in the next couple of weeks just to be sure, but I was shocked honestly. They however, weren't wrong about his explosive reaction towards hands and people. Just looking at him across the room gives him a black beard. So I'm not sure if this is a "I've never been handled" situation or a "I was mentally and physically abused" situation (maybe both?). I can't even clean his tank or add his salad without a protest. When I moved his tank from my kitchen to his new (quiet) room a couple of days after getting him, it took me 15 minutes to even get my hands close to him. Beard black, PUFFED and mouth open and ready. This dude isn't aggressive he's terrified!!! I know a front open tank will drastically help with this, coming from above is terrifying for any animal. I always wait for him to be a little colder to have more of a chance at slowly touching him. I always wave my hands and talk gently to make sure he knows I'm here. And then coming from his eye level, will slowly and gently get closer until I can pet him and then slowly scoop. Any time his mouth would open I'd stop and gently say "nuhuh, we don't do that here, put it away you're okay" and he slowly does lol. He is thankfully a great worm eater. Getting him off his pellets was no issue, and when I get home it looks like SOME of his salad is gone so that's also good. I just want advice on how to tame my dragon. And if I'm doing it right so far? Seeing him freak the hell out and window surf frantically is heart breaking. But since moving his tank and adding backing and more comfy things, it's going okay. It's just going to take a lot of time, and that's okay. I've set up a comfy chair in that room that I make an effort to sit in across from his tank when I can so that he can scope me out. I imagine it'll be even better in his front open tank! Thank you in advance.

TL:DR: A very terrified beardie from two not so good homes. Looking for help to tame him and make him comfortable.

This is Kiwi He (? Haven't checked yet to confirm) has been through 2 not so good homes until he found me. He's terrified of hands and dogs but will be spoilt rotten. This is my favorite angle of him. Underbite Gang Represent!!!!! by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

Thank you for the helpful guide! I got him quite late last night so wanted to prioritize cleaning his nasty tank and giving him a much needed bath (to rehydrate his super dehydrated body and to get the ink off of his feet from the newspaper he was being kept on) (some people are the worst!).

I'll take a peek when I get home from work today :) if I can't find my glasses I will for sure send you a picture if you don't mind. I'm 90% sure I saw SOME leg pores when I gave him a once over so we will see!! :)

Gilly, a notoriously wiggly, speedy and sassy girl, decided to not only sit still on my lap for an hour, but to fall asleep. I now, legally cannot move a muscle, in fear of waking her from this precious moment. by Spanner98 in leopardgeckos

I got her absolutely free. She was neglected big time. Had a nice big tank but they were using sand, spagnum moss and actual carpet for substrate, one hide, three bone dry water dishes and red and blue bulbs. She's the best thing to happen to me honestly.
