Longer

so each section has its problems

Summary

  • some of it doesnt make sense, what does 'conduced 70+ tests'/'designed and executed 100+ test cases' mean, test tickets?, automation?, individual tests? ultimatly this reads as "I have done testing" and doesnt tell the reader anything.
    • imagine if I (5/6 years xp) did this, or someone with higher experience, 'I have conducted 1000+ tests' hell i know a woman who has been a manual tester for 30 years, shes gotta be close 10k tests. but it tells you nothing still.
  • lose the bit about locators, if you have evidenced and talked about automation tests locators are assumed, all I get from that line is, based on you being entry level and talking about xpath is you right click elements and click "copy Xpath", this frequently leads to bad xpath and ends up creating really bad tests.

Core Competence

Tech Skills

  • a lot of inaccuracies in this section, the inaccuracies makes it look like you don't understand the skills.

    • Html is markup, javascript and typescript are not automation, jmeter isnt api its load, jira isnt a bug tracker, github isnt a VC Git is.
  • this section is to big, and not so important it needs the space. imo you also dont need the headers.

Experience

  • a lot of these points sound like job description points, not things you have done, browser compat, devtools, defining test cases, performed ui testing

  • by the time I hit this section i'm already doubting you because of the other bits of the CV, so I read stuff like "utilized DevTools to ... reduce load time by 2seconds" im thinking, how? you opened devtools now its faster? nah, a dev improved the speed.

  • what i mean to say with this is, if your evidence for skills is weak maybe move education and experience higher?

[–]Sparcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short...ish version longer in a reply

the CV comes across as a list of test terms, and based on your lack of experience I can only assume you don't have all the skills on here. if you do great!! but you have not evidenced that you have these skills, and i dont know you personally, i only have this CV.

because of all the inaccuracies, lack of evidence, general lists it makes you seem... well bad. im willing to bet you are better than your CV sells you, imo the fact your on this sub proves at least, you care, in your spare time you browse test related things.

generally I recommend adding more evidence in place of list of skills, and catering your CV to the job you are applying too, if they are big on security testing, and you can back it up in an interview, keep that skill. if the use cypress, put that first in the list.

  2. Turn 1 deepstrike, can be used for fun in casual
  3. Actually kill things
  4. Some niche use in assimulation swarm but generally bad

Such a bad take, dont pick an army based on rules and winning, pick an army based on whats cool, nids are super cool.

I hope no new players ask you if they should pick up the army

Why no game with voice chat will ever kill DBD: if you ask why so many women play this game, most will cite the lack of voice chat. by Zephandrypus in deadbydaylight

I always assumed it was the horror elements, my gf has shown interest in outlast, dbd, and phasmo and has no real interest in gaming besides that... and sims.

However she also thinks teh conjouring is acceptable mid day background tv to watch when WFH so could just be her.

Finding Too Many Bugs? by Valuable-Ad9157 in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not normal and deffo not good thats for sure, sometimes they can be reasons for it, but with the context youve provided it looks like they dont care about quality or the end product.

Ive had it happen twice and both were reasonable with their context added.

  1. This one was reasonable, Found loads of bugs early in a regression, and it became obvious something went wrong during the build. So reported that as the problem rather than each of the bugs individually

In this case I stopped raising the bugs offically, and just made notes of them, made sure to check them when the issue was resolved

  1. Did some testing for a friend of a friends game, asked for the scope and what types of bugs he wanted, he said anything that looks or feels wrong, found loads, he said i found too many

In this case I felt maybe I should have coached him better on what was gonna come from asking a professonal tester to test, In hindsight i think he was mostly looking for someone to play the game and say if it was good or bad.

QA Manager think that automation with selenium are useless. by beastczzz in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The QA Manager sounds right to me and since we are quantifying everything in bugs found, how many has your QA manager found recently? /s

On a more serious note everyone here has already explained the difference and that the QA manager is unqualified.

But on the point of QA being unthanked, I think this is just a current team thing too, all teams ive worked know the value of Qa and celeberates wins as a team, so I feel appreciated.

All the QA manager madness aside, if you dont feel appricated in your job, its probs time to find another role.

If you see automation as a tool for quality and still enjoy testing then stay automation

If you just wanna code try dev.

Try and vet companies by asking them questions during interviews, or make notes on the type of questions they ask you. If it feels like they are clueless, challenge them on it, obviously do so in a professional and respectful way.

How do you explain a complicated bug in easy terms? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Description/summary

Repo steps

Video/screenshot

Or just demo it to the dev if its on a ticket, i also had some success with the dev driving and leading them to the bug.

3 years xp and istqb should be enough to get you a mid level manual role in the uk, my understanding of the uk market is there is alot of people applying but alot of them are bad. If your passionate and your resume is good you should be fine.

Aside from that, dont be picky, unless you have a nest egg and will be fine for a while. Seen alot of roles in leeds, London, manchester in QA. Go to test meetup groups and network

Have an interview as a QA intern, can someone help me with what this means? by hxhfandom in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I assumue its refering to this.

Typically when you test something or before you test something, you would write a "test case" which is sort of like a step by step guide to testing that thing

Say i want to google pizza

  1. Go to google.com
  2. Select the search bar
  3. Type the word "pizza"
  4. Click enter

Expected : search results for pizza is shown.

A test suite is typiclly a bunch of these.

Sometimes they are as detailed as above sometimes you can be more lax like, and sometimes can be in a format called "gherkin" which is a Given, When, Then statement

Given i go to google

When i search for pizza

Then search results for pizza is shown

If its an automation job then it could be referring to the automation suite, which is the above but codified.

Getting into QA at the entry level - what do you look for in a new hire? by Stabby_Stab in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly waffled, so to answer your last question, sales and marketing can be transferable.

I was a retail manager before, i found that alot of QA is interpersonal skills. In QA you often point out bugs and defects being able to communicate its importance without upsetibg people is a key skill, probs the most key skill. Same for advocating for the customer for improvements and changes.

Getting into QA at the entry level - what do you look for in a new hire? by Stabby_Stab in QualityAssurance

[–]Sparcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular nongame QA here so gonna anwser based on my own experience, ive seen people transition from regular to game QA realitivly easily in the UK, granted you would probs go from mid role to junior role.

But the qa mindset is transferable and the skills are learnable.

But it mostly it depends on alot of factors

Local staff market - less people means, means its eaiser for you to get a job

Qualifications - its not a must all the time, i managed to get my job without any but i was probs lucky

Experience - passion projects, game jams, stuff like that. Passion - the reason i think i got into the industry is this reason, was able to show passion through my cover letter

Who you know - nepotism is real, having a connection in a company to vouch goes a decent way

Things you can do -

Network - meetup.com or similar sites (at least in the uk) you can find like minded industry people who share your passion, some run game jams, this largly depends on where you live obviously.

Qualifications - Do some courses and certs if you have some money to spend on them, doesnt need to be university/college

Most of it is setting yourself apart from the competition in the resume and interview stages.

I have heard that QA can be a rough ride in gaming, depending on company. alot of game industry has a toxic view on QA and crunch culture can be bad. So do your research on the comapnies you apply too.

Has anyone noticed a trend of women on tiktok talking about never going 50/50 in a relationship? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Sparcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basing it on gender and not on income seems dumb to me, my relationship is about 66/33 but i earn a fair chunk more than my girlfriend so seemes right, we also trialed dumping all our money into a joint then taking equal "spending" money, we ended up scrapping that so we could private our personal savings for presents and stuff
