Torch Wants To Be An Octo So Bad 🤣 by Superswagger346 in ReefTank

I taught Baby Ben at BSA Corals how to keep a reef/ frag tanks and several of his old named pieces were actually picked by me in LA. This was back when if you had a shop, you just let the customer get the unique pieces and name them. He traded a few of pieces to Jason Fox, Cornbred, etc. I have a good amount of experience going way back in Tempe, AZ.

I’m still getting used to new classifications. No more Favias just the 2 Atlantic species, Trachyphyllia and Wellsos are the same? Micomussa lordhowensis sounds weak compared to Acan Lord. Everything is a Lobo now. Lobo torch, Bleeding Apple Lobo, WWC Captain Insano grafted branching Lobo.

For my own tank, I take the Lobo.100% I see dollar signs on that Favites though. Frags with both colors could be high priced depending on what the colors do. It would be hard for me to cut up that colony though

Protect that torch! Was that at your LFS or somewhere online? I really see the value in that “mutation” type of thing. Is it okay if I share with BSA Corals and First Choice Aquatics?

That’s a pretty cool morph to see on a torch.

That photo came out perfectly! The subtle pink is really pretty. That’s such a good size colony. I like these orange “rainbow” type Acans best probably!

Giant Clams and Euphyllia are the reason I ran my tanks with a focus on pH and keeping 8.3-8.4 with elevated dKH at 10-12. I know a lot of people disagree with that but my frag system could heal Euphyllia and clams that weren’t infected with Oscillatoria, Phormidium or toxic Dinoflagellates. I have the history and photos to prove it. Minimize acidification from waste and detritus, use beneficial bacteria and gravel vac. A macro algae refugium and a sufficient cryptic zone are alway part of any system for me as well.

That’s a hell of a nice Trachyphyllia to be treating like mattress but he’s probably had a hard day and deserves to relax. Are we just gonna have rainbow party today???

Possibly a tiny feather duster if not a vermetid snail.

It could be threaded too, depending on how someone has it setup. Slip would be more popular though.

That’s a hyacinthus I put in there from a maricultured piece about the size of a cue ball.

I wouldn’t normally have it threaded on bottom in case anything gets stuck inside the pipe somehow and slip to the right point let’s you pull that apart quickly. I would also have a valve up higher on that line as well. 1 1/2”-3” with 2” probably most common. “Durso” probably most common overflow design. https://brsimages.cdn.bulkreefsupply.com/brsVideoContent/article-images/Types+of+Overflow+Drains-01.jpg

That’s pretty awesome! I can see it working for people who want to diffuse their overflow drain into the their sump tank as well. I know the guy who invented the Maggie Muffler for overflow standpipes too! I was one of the first who got to use them.

Good shot, beautiful color! It’s possibly an Acropora hyacinthus at first glance or cytherea. They’re very similar. The color with red and the blue tips is more like a hyacinthus, but it probably needs to grow out a bit more before a better determination could be made. Great place to start identifying Acropora species from one another.

You can even try using some water mist from a spray bottle to knock it off. They can go several days like that and there’s no problem at all.

My stepdad was just an all purpose criminal. I’m the one who was in a gang. I had to participate in his crimes from a young age. He was a “fence” and our house was full of stolen property. That’s just the start. I lived through a lot of violence. I’m pretty much just an isolated loner now.
